Recently, there have been some hidden gem restaurants popping up near the quiet stations of Keikyu line. I have visited a few in Kitashinagawa and Aomono Yokocho, but this time I heard that a wine izakaya has opened near Heiwajima, a place I only knew from boat racing. So, off I went! Just 30 seconds walk from the station gate. The station area looked a bit deserted, typical of these small Keikyu stations. Along the narrow street in front of the station, there were a few izakayas and other establishments, and among them was a wine izakaya with a wooden door that exuded a nostalgic, handmade feel. The first floor mainly had high tables for two, so the three of us opted for a table on the second floor. The dimly lit interior, which seemed to be a renovated traditional Japanese house, was very calming! They had a variety of Western-style dishes that paired well with wine, including their specialty grilled skewers made with a proud chicken called "Shingen-jo," and homemade pizza made fresh daily. The wine selection ranged from Chilean to Italian, Spanish, French, and more, with bottles available for around 2,000 yen. The wine glasses, despite the casual atmosphere of the place, were of good quality, enhancing the taste of the wine. All in all, we had a light meal with two bottles of wine, costing around 3,000 yen per person. If a place like this was near my home, I would definitely become a regular customer!
