Sweet temptation ♪ I went to "Maisen Daimaru Tokyo Store" near Tokyo Station in Tokyo, a tonkatsu restaurant, to try the hire katsu. The interior of the restaurant was simple and traditional, with many seats in the back. I ordered the following:
- Hire Katsu Curry Set: 1,730 yen
- Hire Katsu Set: 1,850 yen
The dishes arrived in about 9 minutes, and the katsu looked crispy and delicious. The Hire Katsu Curry Set had delicious pork loin katsu with a crispy coating that paired well with the spicy curry sauce. The Hire Katsu Set had tender pork fillet katsu that easily melted in the mouth, with a rich umami flavor. The set also came with unlimited cabbage, rice, and miso soup. It was a delightful meal.

On January 9, 2023, around 18:30, I visited this restaurant with a friend. We were wandering around and feeling hungry, so we decided to go to the restaurant area in Daimaru. I was in the mood for tonkatsu, so we chose to eat here. We didn't make a reservation, but we were able to get a table easily. I ordered a regular pork cutlet set. The tonkatsu was delicious as expected. The prices were reasonable, and I was satisfied with the tasty tonkatsu. The staff were polite and provided good service.

I visited Tonkatsu Maisen Tokyo Daimaru store for a business trip lunch in Tokyo. I ordered the Black Pork Tonkatsu and Seasonal Edamame Croquette Set for 2,400 yen. The set includes 70g of Black Pork Tonkatsu fillet, Edamame Croquette, Shrimp Cream Croquette, rice, miso soup, and pickles. I upgraded the miso soup to Black Pork Miso Soup for an additional 140 yen. The Black Pork Tonkatsu is crispy on the outside and juicy inside, very delicious. The Edamame Croquette has large edamame beans in it. The Shrimp Cream Croquette has plump shrimp and a mild creamy filling, very tasty. The Black Pork in the miso soup is also delicious. You can get rice, miso soup, and cabbage refills, so I was very satisfied with the full and delicious lunch. Thank you for the meal.

"Mai Isshin" is famous for its katsu sandwiches. This time, I purchased them for takeout. I ordered a mix of pork cutlet sandwich and shrimp cutlet sandwich. It was just the right amount for lunch and I was quite satisfied. I have tried various takeout katsu sandwiches, but personally, I like Mai Isshin the best. Thank you for the meal.

Cheese menchi katsu must be warmed up. It was on sale, so I bought it at Daimaru Tokyo for a late-night snack. It's a menchi katsu, a type of cutlet. I didn't remember eating it much before, and my stomach was a bit tired of chunky meat. When I opened it, I thought, "Oh, if the cheese in the center had melted, it would be divine." I'll heat it up for just 30 seconds. That was the right move, the cheese in the middle became slightly gooey and creamy. Combined with the flavorful minced meat, it was very delicious. If you have the means to warm it up, you should definitely do so.

The pork cutlet sandwich is always a classic, and I think this place has the best one. I was looking for a late-night snack at Daimaru, and I found it here today. The pork cutlet is so tender that you don't even need to chew much. Well, maybe saying you don't need to chew at all is a bit much? The soft texture is just perfect. It's amazing that you can always get this quality even with mass production. The bite-sized portion is also great, it's easy to eat anywhere without making a mess. This pork cutlet sandwich is also kind to those who find fried food hard to digest.

I visited Mai Izumi after a long time and this time I bought a bento box since I had previously tried their katsu sandwich. I opted for the classic option, the Soft Hire Katsu priced at 1078 yen including tax. As the name suggests, the hire (pork fillet) was tender and easy to chew. I ate the bento box about 3-4 hours after purchasing it, so I think this affected the lack of crispiness in the coating. Fried foods are best eaten right away, so this was my fault for delaying my meal. The bento box came with two mini packs of sauce (one pack wouldn't have been enough), a slice of tamagoyaki (Japanese rolled omelette), simmered vegetables, and pickled radish. The rice was served with a pickled plum. Overall, it left an impression of a well-crafted Hire Katsu bento box. I would recommend dining in next time to enjoy the freshly fried taste.

On this busy day at the end of the year, I stopped at Tokyo Station on my way home from work to pick up dinner. I bought some sushi from Sushisei at Granroof as requested, and then headed to the food section on the first floor of Daimaru to get some side dishes. I first bought the "Nakashi Shichi" bento box from Bematsu, which is known for its original boxed meals. Feeling like I needed more meat dishes, I visited the shop directly operated by a tonkatsu restaurant with a main store in Aoyama. Although their main focus is tonkatsu, it seemed a bit heavy for what I wanted. So, I ended up purchasing a black pork minced cutlet for 275 yen and a skewered cutlet with onions and pork for 232 yen each. I originally intended to eat both, but unfortunately, the minced cutlet was confiscated. The skewered cutlet turned out to be unexpectedly light and crispy, with tender meat and sweet onions inside. It was much tastier than the fried food in the seaweed bento box I bought from a bento shop called "Zenzai" in Kamata the other day. Perhaps it's the advantage of buying directly from the shop. My friend who ate the minced cutlet seemed reasonably satisfied as well. Next time, I'll make sure to buy two minced cutlets to ensure I get to enjoy them.

I visited the Maiizumi restaurant at Daimaru Tokyo store in Yaesu. The location of the shop is in the "Hoppe Town" on the basement 1st floor of Daimaru Tokyo. It was my first visit this time.
On this day, I purchased the Feast Nori Bento (999 yen including tax) and enjoyed it at home. The contents included a bite-sized fillet cutlet, shrimp cream croquette, shrimp fry, grilled salmon, simmered egg, simmered sweet potato, simmered dried daikon radish, and pickles. It came with sauce, tartar sauce, and mustard.
The bite-sized fillet cutlet had a soft texture and was consistently delicious. The shrimp cream croquette and shrimp fry were delicious even when cold. The grilled salmon had a mild saltiness, a very ordinary taste. The simmered egg was well-flavored and very delicious.
The rice was topped with bonito flakes and seaweed from Ariake Sea. The bonito flakes had a sweet taste that paired well with the rice and seaweed. With three types of fried foods, grilled salmon, simmered egg, and plenty of rice, the bento had a satisfying volume.
The bento was delicious in taste and I was very satisfied. I am increasing my purchases of bento at "Hoppe Town" so I would like to visit Maiizumi again to try a different bento. Thank you for the meal.

The three-piece hirekatsu sandwich here has thick and large pieces of cutlets, but overall the sandwich is on the smaller side. Each piece can be eaten in two bites, or one big bite if you're brave. I finished the three pieces in no time. When I want to eat more, I go for the six-piece option. The hirekatsu is tender and the sauce is delicious. Among all the katsu sandwiches, I like the one from Mai Izumi the best. The shrimp katsu has aurora sauce, so I prefer the one from K○K. Overall, Mai Izumi's hirekatsu sandwich is the winner. In terms of individual fried items, the oyster fry in winter is big and tasty with tartar sauce. Whenever I want a snack, I always go for the hirekatsu sandwich here. Thank you for the meal.

After Golden Week, I went to work with staggered hours. As usual, walking through Yaesu North Exit, I noticed that the staff at Daimaru Tokyo were gathering. It turns out that they are only opening the 1st floor and basement food section from 11:00 to 18:00 on weekdays. I didn't know this as I hadn't watched the news. When I told my wife about it, she immediately texted me to buy a Shumai bento from Sakuraxin on my way back. I arrived at Daimaru around 5:30 pm, just before closing time. The underground shopping area in Yaesu was deserted, except for this place which was brightly lit. At the entrance, female staff wearing shields guided customers one by one, with temperature checks required before entry. The rule was strict - no entry without a mask. All staff members were wearing masks, and there were vinyl sheets hanging at each store's register, with social distancing tapes on the floor. It was a completely different and eerie scene from the usual department store. Unfortunately, the requested Sakuraxin bento was sold out, so I decided to get Tonkatsu bento from Mai-Sen. I managed to secure 4 portions, even though they were running low. I carried the heavy bento in a Daimaru bag and took the usual express bus back from Yaesu. My role as an "Uber dad" who picks up food for the family is amusing, but also feels like a servant. However, my family was delighted to have a pseudo dining experience after a long time. Of course, my wife, tired from housework, was the happiest. I had the Hire Katsu Juu and decided to eat it as it is without reheating, like a station bento. It's always a mystery why the Hire Katsu here is so tender. The thick and juicy Hire Katsu used in the Katsu sandwich is delicious. The rice was packed tightly in the bento, and I ended up leaving a little rice at the end. Daimaru's underground area has a great selection of bento near Tokyo Station, so I'm willing to be the "Uber dad" again on my next work day (laughs). Tonkatsu Mai-Sen Daimaru Tokyo Store.

I was initially attracted by the great deal of 999 yen, so I decided to purchase it. Even though it's a tonkatsu restaurant, the salmon in the bento was incredibly delicious. The tonkatsu, as well as the shrimp fry, were also very tasty. The simmered egg and simmered daikon radish were satisfying, and I left feeling full. The location is convenient, right near the station or at Daimaru Tokyo, and the wide variety of bento choices made it hard to decide. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Thank you!

In the vicinity of Tokyo Station, there is a Mai Suien takeout shop at Daimaru and Gransta inside Tokyo Station. This time, I tried the classic Hirenkatsu sandwich and the Katsu sandwich with a soft and sweet-savory sauce that perfectly complements the crispy cutlet. It's a delicious combination that is perfect with beer. Whenever I come across it, I can't help but buy it.

In January 2020, before returning to Osaka from Tokyo, I got a bento box to go from Daimaru Tokyo store. This time, I chose "Kohbuta Rosu Katsu Don" from Mai Izumi (including tax it was 1080 yen). When I hear "Kohbuta" I think of Porco Rosso, but this "Kohbuta" is a special brand of pork from Okinawa, raised on an original feed mixture with purple sweet potatoes, awamori lees, and sake lees. I brought it home and reheated it before eating. Even though some time had passed since I bought it, the meat was tender and the egg was fluffy. It was a very delicious pork cutlet bowl. Thank you for the meal!

Let's update this place that seems to have disappeared for a long time. I used to eat my favorite katsudon bento here every week. It was either from here or from Sushiki for takeaway rosukatsu bento. When it comes to a serious meal, the bento from the Depachika (Hoppe Town) at Daimaru Tokyo has some kitchen restaurants like Yawaraka Meat and Sazenoyu, and Maisen frying next to it. My recommendation is the katsu sandwich, but the fried squid and red pork rosukatsu donburi are also delicious. The red pork is made from Okinawa sweet potatoes and is sweet and tender, even when cold. There are some hits and misses, but they also have a rib loin katsudon. It's a bit more expensive than the regular rosukatsu donburi, but if you like red pork, this is the one to go for.

Yes. Sometimes I feel a bubbling desire for something punky to snack on! On my way back, as soon as I saw this shop, I made a beeline for it. Wow, they have a potato salad sandwich. I bought that. And also a tonkatsu sandwich, katsu burger, and more. That evening, I indulged in some drinks. My uric acid levels are not looking good... But I ate and drank heartily. The slightly sweet chu-hi sauce goes well with it. The potato salad was just okay, nothing special. I think the classic tonkatsu sandwich is the best snack. It was a delicious meal.

After finishing work, I had lunch with a friend and then headed to Tokyo. I had dinner on the Shinkansen train. The next morning was busy, so I bought something light to eat at the depachika in Tokyo Station. I chose a pack of three delicious tonkatsu sandwiches from Mai Suien that were good to eat until the next morning.

Before boarding the Shinkansen back from Tokyo Station, I always make sure to stop by the "Bento Street" at Tokyo Daimaru. With a length exceeding 60 meters, this area is home to a bento market with over 1,000 varieties from 23 different shops, making it the largest bento market in Japan. This time, I decided to try the "Pocket Sandwich" from "Mai Izumi". The Pocket Sandwich is a special sandwich only available at the Mai Izumi Tokyo Daimaru store, filled with minced cutlet, fried egg, and curry sauce. Just imagining this combination makes it sound delicious. When I picked it up, I immediately felt its weight. Inside, the egg was perfectly runny, the curry sauce wasn't overpowering, and the abundance of onions added a nice crunchy texture. The minced cutlet lacked a bit in meatiness, but the balance of egg, curry, and minced cutlet was excellent, making it a tasty sandwich. Next time, I'd like to try their most popular item, the Pork Cutlet Bento. Thank you for the meal.

Connected directly to Tokyo Station, this is the basement floor of Daimaru Tokyo department store. It's the famous Tonkatsu Maisen! I couldn't find the eat-in area mentioned in previous reviews, but I got the Mini Hire Katsu Burger for 237 yen to go. It's tiny (laughs).

I bought a souvenir cake for home at Pierre Hermé Paris in Daimaru Tokyo, and then I looked around for more Christmas items. Everywhere was decorated for Christmas, including Mai Suien. The products were the same, just the packaging was Christmas-themed. The Christmas Mini Hire Katsu Burger costs 237 yen and comes in a Christmas tree package. The Christmas Mini Ebi Katsu Burger costs 248 yen and comes in a stocking package. The Torotama Menchi Katsu Curry costs 432 yen and is a Daimaru Tokyo exclusive pocket sandwich filled with plenty of meat, curry sauce, and a soft-boiled egg. It is quite heavy and has a satisfying taste. Heating it up in the microwave without overcooking the egg made it even more delicious.
