Hello, this is Sappio. Today I would like to introduce "Engine", a small standing noodle shop where you can enjoy a hearty oil soba with well-mixed sauce. It is located near Daitabashi Station on the Keio Line. Despite being a shop specializing in oil soba, I had been putting off visiting until now, but it seems to have quite a good reputation. So, I decided to visit. The shop is located a few minutes south of Daitabashi Station. It is a small and narrow shop that can accommodate only 3-4 people standing. There are no chairs, so it is a standing-only style shop. If you sit in the back and another customer comes in, it might be difficult to leave... Luckily, there were no other guests during my visit, so leaving was smooth. The menu consists of various oil soba dishes such as "Engine Oil Soba", "Rich Oil Soba", and "Ice-cold Oil Soba". Since it was my first visit, I chose the "Engine Oil Soba". The portion size was a bit small at 360g, so I wish they had a larger option like a 3-serving "King Size". The noodles were boiled perfectly for 4 minutes. The chashu was grilled well on the burner. Once the noodles were mixed thoroughly, the dish was served promptly. First, the soup that comes with the oil soba was served, followed by the main dish. When I first looked at the dish, I noticed that the sauce was mixed well with the noodles. The noodles were thick and curly, with a chewy and firm texture. They were cooked perfectly and coated evenly with the sauce, without any excess sauce at the bottom of the bowl. The noodles had a slightly firm and chewy texture, with a strong presence. The sauce was a combination of soy sauce and oil, creating a thick and sticky texture. Although the flavor was a bit monotonous, it was delicious with a strong impact. The toppings included grilled chashu, kaiware, menma, seaweed, and naruto. Adding something like a savory sauce or seasoning would have enhanced the overall flavor. The grilled chashu was exceptionally tasty. Despite the small portion, I finished it quickly. You order verbally and pay at the counter. When leaving, they asked if it was my first time there and gave me a stamp card. After 5 visits, you get a free bowl of noodles, which is a good deal. Since it's close by, I will definitely visit at least 5 more times. Thank you for the meal.

It's been about a year since I last visited this place. I've tried to come a few times, but either the timing didn't work out or it was too crowded to get in. This time, I chose the rich oil soba for 790 yen around lunchtime. I had a very impressive experience with their food before, so I had high expectations this time as well. However, to cut to the chase, I didn't feel the same level of impact as before. I almost forgot about flavor customization and only remembered towards the end, when I finally added vinegar, chili oil, and hoisin sauce to enhance the taste. It was a bit too late! Maybe my taste buds have become more refined over the past year from trying various oil soba dishes. Nearby places like Neji-shiki in Hatagaya or Abura Gakumiai in Meidaimae were quite good. I will definitely come back again, and next time, I hope to be as impressed as I was before.

I had been really curious about this place for a while, so when I was nearby, I finally decided to check it out. As rumored, it's quite small... I was the third person in line with two others already inside, and it was already full when I entered. Maybe they could squeeze in one more person, but that's about it. The space behind the counter is also very cramped, but you can see the skillful way they work around it. Normally, I would go for the most popular item at a new place, but I heard the rich oil soba was recommended, so I chose the large size for 790 yen. I watched the owner carefully preparing it with a fair amount of back fat, maybe that's the difference from the engine oil soba? Following the recommended way to eat it, I lightly mixed it and took a bite... delicious! The thick noodles were firm and chewy, coating in the rich soup that had a strong punch of flavor! I was impressed as I ate, and then I adjusted the taste with the three condiments on the table: vinegar, chili oil, and Sansho pepper. All of them were my favorites, but I wished there was some savory chili pepper for an extra kick. After sprinkling them all on, it was even more delicious with my preferred taste... the perfection level was really high and fantastic! Despite being rich and in a large portion, I finished it easily and didn't feel heavy at all, which was surprising. I had a normal dinner with my family later, and they would never guess I had the oil soba in a large size earlier haha. I've had oil soba at various places before, but this might be the closest to my taste. I never expected to be so impressed by such a small restaurant. The owner even talked to me and gave me a loyalty card, so I'm sure I'll be coming back more often in the future! Next time, I'll try the engine oil soba!

When I went to the restaurant, it was a bit hard to find and I almost missed it at first. The entrance felt narrow, like only 3-4 people could fit inside at a time. It was crowded when I arrived, so I had to wait outside. Finally, one person came out from inside and I was able to go in. I had decided to order the engine oil soba with extra chashu toppings. The chef was very focused on making the broth, and I could see his dedication to his work. The chashu was torched with a burner before being served on top of the thick noodles. The combination of the chewy noodles and flavorful broth was amazing. It was a truly satisfying experience.

A small shop in the shopping street near Daitabashi Station, with only a counter for standing and eating. It looks like it can get crowded with just four people. The menu suggests they serve drinks in the evening. I ordered the oil noodles. The kitchen is small, so they cook the noodles in a pot. If multiple orders come in at once, it might take some time. The oil noodles arrived, and I mixed it from the bottom. The noodles are thick and curly, with a chewy texture. The soup in the oil noodles is quite concentrated and flavorful. It's rich but doesn't feel heavy. The char siu has a nice charred flavor. Adding vinegar and chili oil halfway through changes the taste significantly, so it might be better not to add them at first. Oil noodles usually taste the same wherever you go, but the one here left a lasting impression and was delicious.

The north exit of Keio Line's Daitabashi Station. A new, casual dining oil soba specialty shop with a hanging curtain has opened in the Daitabashi Shoueikai. "Engine Oil Soba". Order: Engine Oil Soba + Raw Egg (¥650 + ¥50) Date of Visit: 2/7/2019 Daitabashi may sound quite obscure, with a high probability of being misread as "Yotabashi" just by the appearance of the characters, but you and I have continued to love this town. While we don't have many opportunities to eat and drink here, it's not like we have no expectations. In the past, there were places like the famous "Garurumi Umami Soba Jiraigen" or the Daitabashi Daishoken branch of Eifukucho's Daishoken, so it felt quite fulfilling. Well, it may have been a case of familiarity breeds contempt, but in any case, a new shop has opened in this town. I'm in the mood for standing and eating. Now, the "Engine Oil Soba". The thick noodles sourced from the owner's hometown of Yamagata are exceptionally fresh and excellent, just to sound a bit fancy.

After attending the funeral of my favorite musician, my friend and I decided to stop by this restaurant on a whim. It turned out to be a great choice! The main dish, oil noodles, was not as heavy as I had imagined and went down smoothly. The water dumplings and three kinds of appetizers we ordered were also perfectly prepared and we devoured them in no time. We enjoyed chatting with the regular customers we met in the small restaurant and found it hard to say goodbye to the friendly and sincere owner. I will definitely go back, no, I will become a regular customer!

I had the rich oil ramen. The thick noodles had a satisfying chewiness that paired well with the flavorful soup. I enjoyed adding condiments from the table while eating. It was filling but not heavy, and I would definitely like to go back for more. Thank you for the meal.

Since the last visit that left a strong impression, I finally revisited the restaurant. As planned, this time I chose the popular Engine Oil Tsukemen in large size. It cost 690 yen. They put the noodles in a bowl with special sauce, mix it well to coat the noodles nicely. On top, there are radish sprouts, green onions, and carefully seared chashu. Since the noodles are already coated with the sauce, you can eat them as they are without mixing. It didn't have as much punch as last time, but when I added vinegar and sansho pepper as I ate, it was really delicious. The sauce must be the key. Although the large size may look small at first, it was actually quite filling. This place is really delicious. Especially this time, it was cheap and tasty, so I might get addicted. I'll definitely come back soon! I thought I should eat quickly and leave because the place is small, but other customers were regulars and were drinking multiple cups of alcohol. If you can enjoy it like that, I'll definitely try it next time.

I tried Engine Oil Tsukemen for the first time. It's a gentle and truly delicious tsukemen. I recommend Engine Oil Tsukemen over the rich one.

I tried oil soba for the first time and it was delicious. The noodles were unique, with a chewy and satisfying texture that I really enjoyed. I'm not sure if all oil soba uses this type of noodle, but I recommend trying it for anyone new to oil soba. The restaurant is small and crowded with many regular customers.
