Good evening. I am a beauty acupuncturist, Kozue. The other day, I stopped by a tea house in Shimokitazawa. This time, I visited a shop called Shimokita Senen Oyama. In this shop, it seems that only takeout is available, and there is no dining in the store. The menu is as follows:
Matcha Latte 648 yen
Matcha Latte Shaved Ice 864 yen
Matcha Soft Serve 540 yen
Hojicha Latte - Out of stock
Chai Latte - Out of stock
They also had cookies and chocolate cake for sale. This time, I ordered the Matcha Latte Shaved Ice from the menu. It was the weekend, so there were about 5-6 groups of people lining up in front of the store. Although the menu was limited and I thought I could order quickly, I ended up waiting for almost 30 minutes. While waiting, I watched an elderly staff member making lattes and shaved ice behind the counter. They were measuring carefully and making each drink with great care.
Honestly, I was puzzled about why it took so long to order just a matcha shaved ice or latte, but watching the elderly staff member work so diligently, I couldn't help but think it was understandable. The Matcha Latte Shaved Ice I ordered this time was made by first putting whipped cream at the bottom of the cup, then adding ice, and pouring a rich sweet matcha sauce on top. The cup was then tapped on the table to firmly pack the ice. More ice was added, matcha syrup was poured again, and finally, matcha whipped cream was added to complete the dish.
The staff member had a very kind demeanor and provided very polite service when handing me the shaved ice. When I tasted it, the matcha whipped cream on top was light and not too sweet, allowing the matcha flavor to come through. The matcha syrup on the ice had a strong matcha aroma and sweetness, so whether eaten separately or together with the whipped cream, it was very delicious with a good balance. Also, by packing the ice firmly inside, it melted slowly, allowing me to enjoy it until the end and feel satisfied. I felt that there was a lot of attention to detail in the product, but the service aspect (although polite) was a bit disappointing. Thank you for the meal.
