I occasionally rely on this place. Sometimes I just crave their chicken Karaage bento.

I visited the "Lunch House Ushigome" around 1 pm on a Saturday in August 2018. It is located between Ushigome Kagurazaka Station and Ushigome Yanagicho. The restaurant offers a variety of bento boxes. The small shop had two customers already inside. I ordered the "Aooni Ju" bento box with regular rice for ¥560 at the ordering counter. It is a specialty dish with fried chicken topped with spicy chili. After waiting for about 7-8 minutes, I received my bento box and enjoyed it at a location in Tokyo. The restaurant's signature dish, the chicken bento, features fried chicken with a unique coating. The "Aooni Ju" had diced fried chicken with a crispy texture and a surprisingly spicy kick from the chili. Overall, the portion size was decent and the price was reasonable. While the menu mainly consists of fried and stir-fried dishes, there is a wide variety of options to choose from. Despite its remote location, it seems to be a popular spot among locals.

Around the area between Ushigome Kagurazaka and Ushigome Yanagimachi, I found a bento shop that opens from around 8 am next to the Ushigome Police Station. Today, I've been wandering around since 5 pm, so I decided to have breakfast. They seem to specialize in tori-don (chicken rice bowls), with seven different varieties available. I ordered the Tori-don Ume Rice Small for 510 yen. The obachan (older woman) prepared it efficiently. I had my breakfast under the blue sky in a nearby park. The bento had chopped chicken karaage on top of nori rice. The karaage was covered with a shiso-flavored umeboshi sauce. Pink pickled daikon was served on the side. It was a simple bento. I took a big bite. Oh, the karaage was delicious. The slightly thick coating was crispy and tasty with soy sauce and ginger. The rice was also delicious, slightly firm and well-cooked. The shiso-flavored umeboshi paste might be a bit divisive, but I liked it. It was refreshing. Towards the end, it got a bit monotonous, so I wished there were more side dishes. When you go towards Ushigome Yanagicho from the intersection of Ushigome Kitamachi on Okubo Street, there is a bento shop on the first floor of the apartment building. Their specialty is Tori Juu (chicken on rice), and they also offer various other bento boxes for takeout. They mainly operate during lunch hours on weekdays, but they close early in the evening. On weekends, they close around 3 pm, which is relatively early for a bento shop. The prices are reasonable, especially for the Tori Juu which has a generous portion size and comes in different spicy flavors. They also have daily specials and a variety of options that are more affordable and better quality compared to chain bento shops.

The customer made a mistake and I had to deal with the trouble urgently. I couldn't be reached because I was in a meeting, what should I do? It's already 2:30 PM. I'm hungry but I have no time for a break because of the trouble. I decided to eat while working. This bento is called "Gesu Bento" among us. It consists of rice, mentaiko paste, seaweed, and chopped fried chicken on top. It may sound simple but it's delicious. The crispy texture of the fried chicken adds to its flavor. There are various options available, but both my friend and I always choose the Mentaiko Bento. Thank you for the meal!
