I visited "Sushi Ryu," located about a 3-minute walk from Hakata Station. It is selected as one of the top 100 sushi restaurants in the West in 2021. The restaurant is on the 2nd floor, and when you go up the stairs, you will see luxurious vases on the 1st floor, giving a sense of elegance. Despite feeling a bit out of place, I mustered up the courage to enter, and I was warmly welcomed. I visited around 1 pm on a weekday and was seated at the counter. There are also private rooms available. This time, I ordered the weekday special ★Sushi Set for 1,320 yen. While hydrating with a refreshing tea, I watched the sushi chef in front of me, and in about 5 minutes, the sushi arrived. The set included 2 pieces each of salmon, yellowtail, tuna, sea bream, natto roll, whelk, shrimp, and tobiko. Each piece was fresh without any fishy smell, and the sushi rice was firm. Personally, I'm not a big fan of salmon, but the salmon here was delicious with just the right amount of fat. The tuna had a good balance of lean meat and fat. The salad was a typical mix of lettuce, tomato, mizuna, carrot, with a light dressing. The chawanmushi contained mizuna, ginkgo nut, chicken, shiitake mushroom, and kamaboko, with a gentle and flavorful broth. The miso soup had ingredients like green onions, wakame seaweed, and nameko mushrooms, not too strong in flavor, complementing the sushi well. When leaving, the staff kindly said, "Please come back again!" and engaged in friendly conversation. It was a wonderful dining experience in terms of hospitality and value. Thank you for the meal.
