Mainly, it's been a while since I went out drinking and exploring new places. I had been thinking about trying out a soba restaurant for a while, and this time I chose "Soba Wa" in Hatsumoto. When it comes to restaurants in Hatsumoto, I tend to look around a lot. The counter has 6 seats, and there are 2 tables. The capacity is around 20 people, creating a calm atmosphere.
I ordered the "tori-wasa" dish! I was so excited that I didn't pay much attention to the menu, so when the staff asked me if I wanted it with wasabi soy sauce or as plain sashimi, I hesitated for a few minutes trying to decide. Eventually, I chose to have it as plain sashimi for my first time there.
Next, the tori-wasa dish arrived! Wow, it looks amazing! The color is more pinkish than red, indicating its freshness. There are 12 pieces, which is quite generous. The slices are thick and seem to be boiled just right, maintaining a moist texture. The garnish is daikon, not radish. The soy sauce is dark and glossy, probably a type of sashimi soy sauce or homemade. It has a sweet aroma.
Now, it's time to taste it! First, I tried it plain. The texture is incredible, with a tender bite and a hint of sweetness from the meat. It feels like I'm enjoying raw meat in the best way possible. Next, I dipped it in the soy sauce. The sauce has a thick consistency, slightly sweeter than Kyushu soy sauce. It has a depth of flavor, possibly from kombu or soybeans. It complements the meat well, enhancing its sweetness. The soy sauce doesn't leave a lingering taste in the mouth, providing a refreshing experience.
I also tried dipping it heavily in wasabi, and it was delicious! The combination of the sweet soy sauce, spicy wasabi, and succulent meat was perfect. The freshness of the meat and the overall balance made it easy to enjoy several pieces in a row. It paired well with beer or sake.
In conclusion, the tori-wasa dish at Soba Wa in Hatsumoto is a must-try! It's a great choice for a relaxing evening of savoring delicious food and drinks. This summer may be different, but enjoying good company and tasty dishes in a serene setting is still a wonderful experience. Make sure to visit Soba Wa and order the tori-wasa dish for a delightful culinary adventure!
