I took a short trip to Fukuoka for two nights and three days during the long weekend. I used my accumulated mileage that I couldn't use for a long time due to the coronavirus. I have visited Hakata a few times for work or other reasons, but my wife has never been there before. I informed her in advance that Hakata is a big city similar to Tokyo and Osaka, and we planned to visit Dazaifu and Yanagawa as well. On the first day, after arriving at Fukuoka Airport, we headed to this restaurant. Since Fukuoka Airport is not far from the city center, I thought about taking a taxi, but decided to use the nearest subway station. It was my first time riding the subway. We walked about 10 minutes from the nearest station to a street where the restaurant is located a block away, and already there was a long line before 12 o'clock. Luckily, we had made a reservation in advance, so we avoided waiting in the scorching sun and went inside, informing them of our reservation and heading to the second floor. The restaurant was quite spacious, with ample space between tables. This restaurant is famous for its sea bream rice bowl, and some acquaintances had recommended it to us, saying that if we were going to Hakata, we must visit this restaurant. I had gathered this information beforehand, so I made a reservation in advance. Since it was the last day of the Tenjin Festival, I expected it to be crowded. I ordered the sea bream rice bowl and tempura half set for 1,800 yen. Before that, I ordered a bottle of beer and enjoyed it while waiting. Even though we had only walked for about 10 minutes in the scorching heat, the sea bream rice bowl was incredibly delicious. The sea bream had a firm and elastic texture, and the slightly sweet and flavorful sauce was just perfect. I put it on the rice and ate it. It was truly outstanding. The rice was served in a considerable amount in a wooden container. I then poured the broth over it and enjoyed it thoroughly. The seaweed added a nice touch. For only 1,800 yen, it also came with four pieces of tempura, which was a great deal. Fukuoka is known for its delicious seafood, and the prices are not much different from Tokyo or other big cities, but this was really cheap. I also ordered a sashimi of squid, which was market price at 3,400 yen for one serving. This was expected. Squid sashimi is not something I eat often, unlike tuna sashimi, but the squid was chewy and had a sharp edge with a noticeable sweetness, making it delicious. We finished it all in no time. My wife was extremely satisfied as well. The restaurant was established in 1963, so it has a long history. It is housed in a building with a dignified appearance, and judging by the evening course menu, it seems to attract a lot of customers for banquets and business entertainment. Having a very satisfying first meal during our trip was a great start. After leaving the restaurant, we walked to Kushida Shrine, the main shrine in Hakata. We saw men wearing loincloths, perhaps from the festival.
