On the last night in Fukuoka, I decided to end the evening with sushi. Unfortunately, my old favorite sushi restaurant had closed down. After some research, I decided to try out Ichifuku, which had high ratings and reviews. I called to make a reservation around 5:00 PM, and the person who answered the phone, possibly the head chef, was very polite and reassuring. I took a taxi from Tenjin, but got lost and ended up arriving later than planned. The restaurant had a beautiful exterior and a simple, elegant interior. It was a small place with just a counter, which was a bit intimidating at first. The menu was limited, probably due to the chef running the place alone, but it was a bit disappointing. I started with a sashimi platter for 2500 yen, which included sea bream with kelp, medium fatty tuna, herring roe, and marinated mackerel. The sea bream with kelp was a bit lacking in the kelp flavor and umami, which worried me a bit. I also ordered the premium nigiri set for 3300 yen, which included squid, medium fatty tuna, herring roe, shrimp, baby scallop, simmered abalone, red sea urchin, simmered conger eel, yam with plum and shiso roll. The chef kindly replaced the egg omelette with a roll since I had already eaten egg as sashimi. The fish was delicious and flavorful, and the rice was firm with a satisfying texture. The kelp marinated dishes were subtly fragrant and refined. The more I ate, the more I appreciated the deliciousness. Despite my initial concerns, the sushi was truly delicious. Thank you for the wonderful meal.
