Horse meat is low in calories and high in protein, so I want to eat it every day. Among meats, I especially love horse meat. Cheers with a beer and a cloudy plum wine on the rocks from the original Matsura Shuzo brewery. Being a 40th anniversary restaurant specializing in domestic horse meat dishes, they use Aomori-produced Sakura meat.
- Sakura meat sashimi: Delicious lean meat for 1680 yen. No unique meat smell, refreshing, and tender!
- Sakura hot pot: A sukiyaki-style hot pot with Hachou miso base and a hint of yuzu fragrance for 1650 yen. Using the upper meat part of Sakura meat, it is tender and refreshing. Vegetables are included in the set. I also ordered green onion, wheat gluten, and raw egg for 50 yen each.
I was planning to order Sakura meat yukhoe, but I found out that the seasoning sauce was already spicy, so I ordered the Sakura meat green onion salad for 1300 yen. Horse meat has no smell, so it is delicious. I visited during Obon, thinking they might be closed, but they were open, and the restaurant was empty. Normally, it may be smoky due to smoking, but I could enjoy the aroma and taste of horse meat without any worries. There was also a Sakura hot pot course, but it required a minimum of 4 people, so I want to invite other friends next time.
On the menu, there was also homemade "horse oil" for 700 yen per cup, made by simmering the mane carefully. It is a clear oil without any unique smell, and it penetrates the skin. Unlike products sold in stores with additives, this is natural horse oil with no additives. It should be stored in the refrigerator or freezer, but transferring it to a small bottle and mixing it with essential oils will create a fragrant horse oil. It can also be made into cream or lipstick by adding beeswax. The restaurant is located in a narrow alley, so it may be hard to find, but I want to visit again because the food was delicious.
