I had some business in Hakata over the weekend, and on the evening of the day I went, I had a meal at the traditional Japanese restaurant, Sagano, in Sumiyoshi. I had booked accommodation in advance, but I hadn't made a reservation for dining, so I decided to try my luck and managed to secure a reservation on the same day. I took a taxi from the airport to get there. The entrance had a very traditional and elegant look, typical of a high-class restaurant. When I entered at the reserved time, a waitress guided me to a room with a large table. I initially thought it was a waiting room, but it turned out to be the dining area. There was no menu, but the waitress explained that the meal would include dishes such as appetizers (white asparagus and scallops), soup (cherry shrimp and shiitake mushrooms), sashimi (rockfish, tuna belly, striped jack), fried items (young sweetfish, shirako, beef fat), assorted dishes (sea urchin and squid, seaweed and tomato, shrimp and walnut, etc.), grilled dish (Japanese barracuda), simmered dish (bamboo shoots, seaweed, etc.), rice, pickles, and dessert. Every dish was meticulously prepared and delicious. The sashimi of rockfish was particularly outstanding, with a firm texture and a delicate flavor. The fried young sweetfish was also delightful, reminding me of the delicious ayu fish from Mikado-ya. The grilled Japanese barracuda marinated in miso was rich and flavorful. The rice was also very tasty, and I ended up having multiple servings. Hakata has many delicious dining options, making it a great city for food lovers. Since I may visit frequently in the future, I look forward to dining here again. Thank you for the wonderful meal!
