In Fukuoka, there is a gyoza restaurant near Hakata Station where you can enjoy delicious gyoza and other side dishes. The writer has been living in Fukuoka for about 35 years and has tried various gyoza restaurants like Tetsunabe, Temujin, and Kyokushokudo. However, the favorite turned out to be Kyokushokudo, which has different flavors at each branch. The writer used to frequent the Kyokushokudo branch in Kawabata, which has remained a favorite even after leaving Fukuoka 30 years ago. The writer recently revisited the branch near Hakata Station after about 20 years and enjoyed the same nostalgic taste of gyoza and chicken wings. The gyoza is small and crispy, served with a tangy sauce and spicy yuzu pepper. The chicken wings are firm and flavorful, with a soy sauce marinade. The writer's routine is to order two servings of gyoza and a large bottle of beer, enjoying the chicken wings while waiting for the gyoza to cook. Despite trying highly rated gyoza in Sendai the day before, the writer finds Kyokushokudo's gyoza to be the best, with its authentic Fukuoka flavor and affordable prices.

After a year and a half, I finally visited Asahi Ken in Hakata. The crispy fried dumplings were delicious, and the crunchy vinegar tripe was also great. But if I had to choose the best, it would definitely be the chicken wings. Both dishes were amazing and went down smoothly with a big bottle of beer. I thought about ordering more water dumplings, but ended up getting a refill of highball and two more chicken wings instead. It was so tasty! When I left the restaurant, it was raining, and the owner kindly gave me a forgotten umbrella. Thank you for the delicious meal, I will definitely come back!

The famous gyoza restaurant, founded in a food stall in 1954, was located right in front of the hotel, so I decided to visit as my second stop. The small restaurant was almost full, bustling with customers. Both the pan-fried gyoza and boiled gyoza come in plates of 10 small dumplings each. The pan-fried gyoza had a crispy exterior and a juicy, paste-like filling inside the soft skin, creating a perfect balance of textures. The dumplings were so light that I couldn't stop eating them. Despite being called "one bite," they were small enough to eat two or three at a time. If you order rice and miso soup together, it's like having a full gyoza set meal. The vinegar dipping sauce was also delicious, with a perfect balance of acidity and crunch. I completely forgot to try the chicken wings that my friend recommended...

I visited this restaurant based on reviews on Tabelog. The interior is spacious with many table seats. I ordered a highball, macaroni salad, and gyoza.
- Macaroni Salad: Delicious! It works well both as a salad and as a side dish for drinks. I wonder why it's so tasty. Please try it and let me know.
- Gyoza: One-bite gyoza from Hakata. Small in size with crispy skin and juicy filling. Goes well with alcohol. It has a strong flavor in the filling, so you can enjoy it even without dipping sauce. You can eat as many as you want. This gyoza is truly amazing. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.
* Solo diner-friendly: 3.9 stars. There are counter seats available, making it easy for solo diners to use. Local customers and business travelers, please make sure to visit this place.

On a regular day, I had two errands to run - a visit to the hospital and dropping off a package at the courier collection point. Since the hospital wouldn't be open after my work hours, I took a one-hour break to go there first and then proceeded with my plan for the night. I started with a large beer and chicken wings. The wings were perfectly fried, not greasy at all, and the vinegar chicken gizzards were a great addition. Next, I enjoyed some boiled dumplings and pan-fried dumplings. I prefer the boiled ones because of their chewy skin and flavorful filling. I had a great time at the restaurant, spending around 20 minutes indulging in my meal. However, as I was heading home, I suddenly remembered about picking up my package. I realized I shouldn't be driving after drinking, but it was too late. My night of indulgence turned into an unexpected drinking session after my hospital visit.

Visited 'Hakata Gion Tetsu Nabe' as part of the top 100 gyoza shops in 2019 and 2021. Visited on a Monday around 9:45 PM. The counter seats were available so I entered right away. Ordered a serving of grilled gyoza (10 pieces) for 380 yen and a highball for 350 yen, totaling 730 yen. The highball arrived first, my second one so far. But it felt incomplete without alcohol. The gyoza arrived 10 minutes later and they were surprisingly small! However, the skin was crispy and the meat juice was just right. This is a dish that should be ordered for 2-3 people. Other customers kept ordering more gyoza. It disappears quickly when you eat and chat. The cabbage was also a perfect snack. I went for a casual drink, but it was really good. Thank you for the meal.

I visited the restaurant around 8:00 p.m. on a weekday. There were about 4 groups waiting outside, so I waited for about 25 minutes before being able to enter the restaurant. The atmosphere inside was lively, with many people enjoying dumplings while drinking. I was traveling alone in Fukuoka and felt a bit hungry after dinner, so I decided to order only dumplings. I enjoyed the dumplings with a complimentary tea. The dumplings were small bite-sized pieces with a little cabbage on the side. They were easy to eat, packed with flavor, and perfectly cooked. Even after dinner, I could easily eat more of these delicious dumplings. It's a popular spot, so there may be a bit of a wait, but if you time it right, you should have no problem getting in.

【Visit in August 2023】My son, who loves dumplings, requested dumplings even while traveling in Fukuoka, so we went to a nearby dumpling restaurant, Asahiken, which has a great history since its establishment in 1954. The menu is simple and the prices are generally cheap. The interior of the restaurant has table seats and a counter. There was a good mix of solo diners and groups coming after work. The drink menu is also simple. I had Mitsuya Cider, while the kids had their favorite bottled Bayaris. I ordered:
- 2 cold chicken wings: They were well-seasoned and delicious.
- Vinegar Motsu (offal): Refreshing and tasty, I love vinegar motsu.
- 2 servings of boiled dumplings: These dumplings are delicate, so it's best to pour vinegar soy sauce directly onto the plate. They are easy to eat in one bite.
- 2 servings of pan-fried dumplings: These crispy, small dumplings seem like you can eat them endlessly, haha. I also had a small bowl of rice and miso soup. Since the pan-fried dumplings took some time to cook, it might be a good idea to order plenty in advance. Overall, we enjoyed the meal. Thank you for the delicious food. Fukuoka has so many delicious things, we feel lucky.

I went to Asahiken in search of bite-sized dumplings. It was my first time eating there, and the dumplings were indeed bite-sized. An order is 10 pieces. The moment I ate the pan-fried dumplings, I couldn't help but exclaim "delicious." The flavor spread out like a treasure trove, and it was addictively tasty. The boiled dumplings paired well with yuzu pepper, and were also delicious. It's a taste that goes well with beer. The menu is simple with few options, but as a long-standing establishment, it was bustling with many customers. I definitely want to go back to eat these dumplings again.

Super cheap!!! A budget-friendly restaurant for working professionals after work!! The prices are really reasonable, so it's easy to drop by without hesitation! The atmosphere is lively and feels like a place for the general public! The gyoza is very tasty and easy to bite into with its small size!

I ordered the following:
- Macaroni salad
- 5 chicken wings
- Grilled dumplings (1 serving: 10 pieces) x 2 servings
This is a long-established shop called Hakata Hitokuchi Gyoza, which was founded as a food stall in 1954 and is now celebrating its 69th year. It was almost 10 pm when I arrived, and despite it being past dinner time, the restaurant was full! I was seated at the counter, placed my order, and in just a few seconds, my food arrived! First, I tried the macaroni salad and chicken wings. Personally, I like to add a little soy sauce, but the pepper was so flavorful that it wasn't necessary. The chicken wings were firm and not reheated, so they were served quickly. The meat was tight and a bit salty, but the more you chew, the more delicious it becomes! I really like it. I also enjoy the crispy parts without the foil. Then, the grilled dumplings from Hakata Hitokuchi Gyoza arrived! I took a bite and it was delicious! The skin was crispy from being well-cooked, and the filling was full of flavor. The filling has a lot of vegetables, but you can still taste the richness of the pork fat. I quickly finished the first serving and ordered a second! For all that I ate, the bill of 2,020 yen was too cheap. Thank you for the meal!

After searching for a restaurant open after 10 PM around Hakata, I found this place. Surprisingly, it was quite crowded for a Monday night. When I saw the prices on the menu, I thought the gyoza was cheap! But when it arrived, I realized they were small in size. However, the crispy texture made them so delicious that I could eat them endlessly. The boiled dumplings were also tasty, but they were so soft that they fell apart easily. Still, I couldn't resist having multiple servings of both. The beer was ice-cold and perfect.

I stopped by this restaurant for dinner. We had 4 orders of grilled dumplings, 3 orders of chicken wings, and 2 lemon sours. The photo doesn't do the food justice, but the dumplings were delicious. The atmosphere was great, and I would like to visit this place again soon. I left feeling full and satisfied.

Around 18:35, there were three people waiting outside. We were seated quickly and taken to a counter seat towards the back. I overheard another customer saying that the Mitsuya Cider was good, so I ordered one along with one chicken wing and two orders of gyoza. The chicken wings came out quickly, but they were cold. However, they were flavorful and would go well with alcohol. The cider was average. The gyoza arrived in about 14 minutes, but they were a bit difficult to eat as they were connected in threes. The taste was not bad. I paid 1,010 yen in cash and left to go to the next place.

This is a super famous restaurant that attracts a wide range of local fans, not just tourists and business travelers. Even though I arrived early, there was already a line, and when I peeked inside, it was mostly male customers. It's a fast-paced restaurant where you can eat and drink quickly, so we were seated right away. Unlike the popular Haruyoshi location in Osaka where a famous comedian recently visited, this restaurant has a spacious interior with many counter and table seats. If you prefer the sight of veteran staff working their magic or the cramped feel of a food stall, then the Haruyoshi location might be better, but this one is convenient as it's close to the station.
- Grilled Gyoza (10 pieces for 380 yen)
Despite being a gyoza specialty shop with ample space, there are few grilling stations, so there can be quite a wait as some customers also order takeout. The gyoza are not flipped open but placed on the plate with chopsticks, resulting in a messy appearance where two pieces might stick together. The crispy skin and gooey filling with a punch of garlic make these gyoza delicious and perfect for enjoying with drinks. They are not heavy, and you'll want to keep eating more. The cabbage on the side adds a nice touch of Hakata style.
- Boiled Gyoza (10 pieces for 380 yen)
These arrive slightly faster than the grilled ones. The thin skin and gooey filling of Hakata gyoza make them hard to pick up with chopsticks. While the taste is delicious, I prefer the chewy skin of "Risan" which is the opposite.
- Chicken Wings (1 piece for 100 yen)
These are a snack-like appetizer that is not reheated and can be enjoyed at any time. They used to have a self-reporting system for how many you ate, but now they provide a slip like a regular izakaya. Even when cold, they are tasty, and the crispy part at the base after removing the silver paper is especially delicious.
- Bottled Beer (small bottle for 380 yen)
You can choose from Asahi, Kirin, or Ebisu. I couldn't drink as I was driving. They also have draft beer, but bottled beer is rare these days, and they also serve juices and colas in bottles. This place exudes a Showa era atmosphere with their Hakata one-bite gyoza, chicken wings wrapped in silver paper, and glasses and plates with the restaurant's name on them. It's a recommended spot for those who love sake and izakaya culture, especially for visitors from outside the prefecture.

I visited casually during the daytime. The beer came quickly, but the gyoza took a little time to cook, so I started eating them after drinking about half of my beer. The gyoza were small but had a thick skin, giving them a satisfying texture. The chicken wings were also delicious at 100 yen per piece.

From cool Sendai, I arrived in Fukuoka on the first flight of the morning to find humid air and rain. The atmosphere is indeed different in the southern country. After finishing work and checking into the hotel, I headed to the restaurant. I arrived at 7:30 pm and there were only two seats available at the counter, so I took one of them. I ordered a large bottle of beer (600 yen), chicken wings (100 yen each) x3, steamed dumplings (380 yen), and fried dumplings (380 yen) x2. Unfortunately, they were out of chicken wings. The beer options were Asahi, Kirin, and Ebisu, so I chose Kirin. This was my second visit, and just like last time, the place was almost full. It's always bustling. The beer arrived quickly. I decided to order a small side dish as well, so I ordered vinegar tripe (290 yen). This also arrived promptly. I enjoyed the vinegar tripe to immerse myself in the Fukuoka vibe while waiting for the dumplings. Steamed dumplings and fried dumplings are cooked after the order is placed, but steamed dumplings are cooked quickly by simply boiling them in a pot of boiling water. The timing of the order determines the serving time for the fried dumplings, so it's best to enjoy the steamed dumplings while waiting for the fried ones. First, the steamed dumplings. They were small, bite-sized dumplings. They were served with sauce and spicy miso. They were soft and delicate, almost like a small pearl. The skin was thin and tender, almost breaking when lifted with chopsticks. Quite delicious! Watching the cooking process of the fried dumplings, I estimated they were cooking around 100 at a time. They used chopsticks to check the doneness and to serve them, which added a charming touch to the process. The fried dumplings were served 13 minutes after ordering. They were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. They were served with shredded cabbage. Dipped in sauce and spicy miso, they were crispy and crunchy on the outside, with a gooey filling inside. Delicious! I couldn't resist and ordered another serving of fried dumplings and a lemon sour (350 yen) at the right moment. I finished with one more plate of dumplings and left the restaurant satisfied. The freshly cooked dumplings were indeed the best. Thank you for the meal.

Second stop of the bar hopping in Hakata. After enjoying some grilled chicken skin near the station, we headed to a dumpling shop. While Hakata is famous for its iron pot dumplings, this shop serves them on plates. The grilled dumplings were delicious, with a thin skin, lots of vegetables, and a crispy texture with a light flavor. They were juicy and packed with flavor. Personally, I prefer this shop's dumplings over those of other famous shops. The combination of these dumplings and beer was perfect. I could drink glass after glass. We also ordered macaroni salad as a palate cleanser before trying the boiled dumplings. These were also delicious, with a strong emphasis on the filling. Both the grilled and boiled dumplings had thin skins and were so tasty that I could have eaten endless amounts. Lastly, we couldn't resist ordering some chicken wings from the counter, which were spicy and paired perfectly with beer. This is a really great restaurant!

Visited around 17:45. The place was almost full, but luckily managed to sit at the counter. Ordered some grilled dumplings and tea. Saw chicken wings on the counter and decided to order some more. Got 10 pieces, which seemed like a lot, but they were actually bite-sized dumplings, about half the size of regular ones. Also ordered some boiled dumplings. The skin was crispy and delicious. Thank you for the meal.

I went to "Asahiken" in front of Hakata Station and had some gyoza. This is a long-established gyoza restaurant founded in 1954.✔️Grilled gyoza 10 pieces ¥380✔️Chicken wings 1 piece ¥100✔️Small rice ¥130The gyoza is small but appetizing, typical of Hakata gyoza. Gyoza and alcohol are a perfect match, making it irresistible.

Tonight we went to Asahiken at 6:30 pm without a reservation. There were 2 of us, so we were able to sit at the counter just in time. I love their macaroni salad, it tastes like home cooking and is delicious. It had been a while since I last visited, and I noticed that the dumplings were different this time. They looked the same, but seemed a bit softer. My companion mentioned that the person who usually cooks them had been replaced, so we ordered more. The new ones were just right, showing that there is a lot to appreciate about dumplings. We also tried the boiled dumplings, which were delicious. Today, there were plenty of chicken wings available, which are usually sold out. Thank you for the meal!
