In late March 2021 (Saturday), I decided to have lunch. I had watched a rerun of a show called "Geki Rare-san" a while back, and there was an episode featuring the president of Dom Dom talking about the Crab Burger. When I checked their website, I found out that the limited-time offer had been extended until May, so I decided to come and try it out on a drive. This place is near the starting point of the Kanetsu Expressway. I arrived around 4 pm and used the Maruetsu parking lot. I was quite hungry for a late lunch. Inside the restaurant, there were elderly moms who seemed to be taking a break from shopping at Maruetsu, enjoying drinks and fries. There were about 6 of them. Anyway, I placed my order at the counter. I got the whole Crab Burger, of course. I also got the M set, which includes fries and a drink, but I changed the fries to a salad. I just pointed at the menu and said, "I'll have this salad set, please." They said it would take about 7 minutes for the Crab Burger. That was totally fine. I was given a drink and a number tag at the counter and waited at my seat for a while. The crab they use is called Soft Shell Crab, which is a crab that has just molted. They coat it with flour after receiving the order and then fry it. It looked a bit creepy in the video. After a while, the Crab Burger and salad arrived, brought to me by the staff. It looked great. It was definitely crab. The eyes seemed to be looking at me. It was kind of surreal to see the staff holding the Dom Dom flag. It looked like a swimming crab. Swimming crabs have delicious meat in their bodies, so I had high hopes. I tried a leg first, and as expected, the shell was soft. Even the usually hard claw part was easy to eat without worrying about the shell. When I got to the body, the meat was plump and had a fragrant shell. The sweet chili sauce went well with it and it was delicious. However, I didn't really taste the crab miso much. Well, it's a small size that can fit in a hamburger, so I guess it's understandable. But I was satisfied with being able to taste the crab itself. The crab itself was like a crab version of angel shrimp, or rather, I think the post-molt crab is rarer, so I felt more like I had eaten something rare. It's a bit pricey for a fast food burger, but I think it's definitely worth trying once. They also have other unique items on the menu like "Shrimp Avocado - Plenty of Mascarpone Cheese" and "Mentaiko Thick Tamago Burger," so if there's one nearby, I'd like to try a variety of items. It's nice to see that Dom Dom Burger is still around and offering such innovative menu items. In Kobe, where I grew up, there was one on the 1st floor of Minatogawa Daiei (it seems to still be there), and there wasn't a McDonald's nearby at the time, so I used to go there occasionally. The elephant logo is nostalgic.
