I had a meal at the popular skewer restaurant Kushisho Watanabe-dori store. When I arrived at the restaurant around 6 pm, there were no customers, perhaps due to the rain. However, by around 7 pm, customers started to arrive and the restaurant became full. This time might be a good time to visit. I ordered a beer and a skewer course. Initially, I thought the skewers were a bit expensive at 180 yen each, but when the dishes arrived, I understood why. Each skewer was carefully prepared and there were many unique options that I had never tried before, so I was quite satisfied. I was happy to see that there were free refills of vegetable sticks and cabbage, but when I left one skewer uneaten, I was surprised to see another round of vegetable sticks brought to my table. What great service! The meal included skewers such as ginkgo nuts and octopus chestnut rolls, shiitake mushrooms, shrimp fritters, thinning fish, bacon-wrapped potato and cheese, meat-wrapped onions, curry-flavored eringi mushroom and beef belly, chicken breast with basil sauce, okra and cuttlefish rolls, eggplant with white sauce, stuffed shimeji mushrooms and pumpkin tofu, menchi katsu, shrimp skewers, and ice cream skewers. I appreciated how the staff kindly explained which sauce to pair with each skewer as they brought them to the table. I left feeling quite full and satisfied. Thank you for the delicious meal.

A restaurant that serves freshly fried items one by one in order on the menu. Each table comes with vegetable sticks, cabbage, and 5 types of sauces (such as tartar and ponzu) along with small side dishes served in between. The menu changes monthly, providing a new experience each time. If you have any dislikes, you can inform them in advance and they will skip those items. You can also reorder your favorites. When you're full, they stop serving and move on to dessert. They offer both Japanese and Western-style skewers, each with its own sauce, so you can enjoy a variety without getting bored. Some of my favorites were the isaki with tartar sauce and green onions, the shimeji and koyadofu, the Inca's Awakening with bacon-wrapped cheddar cheese, and the natural red snapper with shiitake mushrooms. This restaurant always provides delicious skewers. The Watanabe Street location only has counter seating, no tables. The atmosphere is calmer and the age group is older compared to Hakata or Tenjin, making it a great place for a leisurely meal.

I visited the restaurant around 12:00 on a regular day. It is located within a 5-minute walk from the Nakano Subway Station on the Nanakuma Line. There were about 3-4 customers dining alone. The interior of the restaurant seemed to have only counter seats, so the seating capacity is not very large. The seats were set up as shown in the first picture (without rice and miso soup). When you order from the menu, rice and miso soup will be served. Today, as a first-timer, I had the assorted tempura set meal. Seven types of tempura were served one after another. You can enjoy them with sauce, salt, or as they are (the chef will recommend how to eat each one). All the tempura were delicious! Personally, I liked the pork and leek tempura the most (my friend preferred the quail egg tempura). The side dishes like pickles were all lightly seasoned, making them easy to eat. I usually can't finish tonkatsu, but I enjoyed this meal without feeling heavy or bloated. I think even those who are cautious about fried food can enjoy this delicious cuisine! Please try it out!

I visited during lunchtime on a regular day and there were about 2 groups ahead of me in line. I waited for about 15 minutes before being seated. I ordered the recommended mixed tempura set, which included salad, pickles, 2 side dishes, rice, miso soup, and assorted tempura. The tempura included shrimp, quail egg, shumai and meatball, new onion, white fish with tartar and green onion, stuffed eggplant, and pork with green onion. You can have unlimited rice and miso soup refills. There were also 3 types of furikake available for sprinkling: seaweed, salmon and whitebait, and yukari seasoning. All of this for only 1200 yen, making it a great deal. The tempura was crispy and delicious, and it's easy to see why this place is popular. The variety of furikake was a nice touch. Thank you for the meal!

I visited this restaurant for the first time. It was a lovely place with a great atmosphere. I was a bit worried that the deep-fried skewers would be heavy, but they were surprisingly delicious. I can't eat a lot, so I reached my limit at about 5-6 skewers, but you're supposed to keep eating until you say stop. It's recommended to have around 10 skewers, and they even serve a dessert-like dish towards the end. However, personally, I have a sensitive nose and I found it a bit disappointing that the smell of oil sticks to my clothes and hair.

I found out that they also serve lunch on weekends, so I visited right after they opened on Sunday. I ordered the tempura set meal for 1,200 yen, which came with 7 pieces of tempura, 2 side dishes, salad, pickles, rice, and miso soup with free refills. They also had 3 types of furikake available. The tempura was freshly fried with a light coating, allowing the natural flavors of the ingredients to shine through. The white rice was delicious. Overall, it was a great value for the price and I left very satisfied.

It was an easy place to enter even if you are alone. They start by serving a small appetizer and sauce set, and the dishes come out one by one. You can stop at your own pace and order your favorite skewers, so you can enjoy it at your own pace.

Located in Nakasu, Fukuoka, "Kushiage Kusho" offers freshly fried skewers one by one in menu order. If you inform them of your dislikes in advance, those items will not be served, and you can reorder any skewers you particularly enjoy. They will continue serving until you say stop, so you can leave with a full stomach. All skewers are freshly fried, making it a definite repeat-worthy restaurant. I visited the restaurant around 11:40 on a weekday. It was already full, so I had to wait for the second round. Even after that, there was a constant flow of customers. The interior of the restaurant was clean, and sufficient measures were taken to prevent infection, with adequate spacing between tables. Despite being busy, the staff were polite and attentive, making it a very pleasant place. I observed for a while and noticed some customers leaving without listening to the staff's instructions, which seemed challenging for the management. It might be a good idea to consider introducing a waiting board or numbered badges. After waiting for about 20 minutes, my turn finally came! A tray was placed in front of me, and freshly fried tempura skewers were served at the perfect pace. The shrimp was incredibly delicious, so plump and juicy. The batter was crispy, and everything was tasty. This time, I ordered the tempura set meal (1000 yen) for the first time, but next time I want to try the special tempura set meal. This restaurant comes highly recommended!

I left it up to the chef's choice. The deep-fried skewers were delicious because they used good oil, making them light and not causing indigestion. Although I left it up to the chef's choice, the Lily Root and Spinach Tofu was the most delicious. It was fluffy, juicy, and you could also feel the refreshing taste of spinach. The next delicious dish was the pork loin. The Japanese sauce was also delicious. The blowfish with green onions was also delicious with its firm texture. Finally, I enjoyed the sherbet and warm tea, leaving me completely satisfied.

I visited for lunch! They had a note saying to come after 1pm for COVID measures, so I arrived around that time. As expected, I was the only person in the restaurant! I ordered the 1000 yen course, which came with salad, miso soup, and small side dishes. Skewers kept coming out one after another, and they were all really delicious! The batter was crispy, and the meat and fish inside were fluffy. Even the kids devoured it all. I would love to go again! It would be great if there was a cheap coin parking nearby.

I stayed at Hotel New Otani, so I made a reservation at this place right next door for dinner. It's a counter-only restaurant where the chef serves freshly fried items on skewers one by one. It's like the "Hira-oi" style of tempura in Fukuoka. First, a set of vegetable sticks, chopped cabbage, and five types of sauces come out, then you order the "recommended course" where skewers come out in order from the right side of the menu until you're full and then you stop. You can skip items you don't like and move on to the next skewer. It's a style where you can eat a lot because the ingredients are difficult to fry at home, and the oil and batter are light. Small dishes for resting your chopsticks also come out in between. The tempura was delicious with a perfect texture that lets you feel the vegetables. We also ordered a rice set with miso soup and pickles. Three types of furikake were provided for unlimited topping. Finally, sherbet was served to finish. I read many reviews beforehand mentioning visiting during business trips or bringing out-of-town guests or friends. The skewer menu changes monthly, featuring a variety of dishes using seasonal Kyushu ingredients. I was very satisfied after visiting and highly recommend this restaurant.

This is the restaurant in this series that I have visited the most! I went there for the first time in two years. Last time I was able to go once a week lol. The chefs have changed, none of the people from back then were there. They used to give me free skewers to eat a lot, but this time it was a bit lonely. I have been to all the restaurants in this series, and I used to think this one had the best rice and service. This time, the rice was a bit mushy lol. The miso soup also seemed a bit different. Thanks for the meal!

There are 3 stores in Fukuoka: here, Watanabe Street and Hakata Station Chikushi Exit, and Tenjin 3-chome. The kushikatsu set meal includes 7 kushikatsu items, each fried one by one. The set meal comes with 2 small side dishes, salad, and 5 types of pickles (turnip, cucumber, carrot miso pickles, Chinese cabbage pickles, and pickled daikon), miso soup, and rice, with free refills for miso soup and rice. There are also 3 types of furikake at the counter. If you take a business traveler here, they will be delighted with the satisfying meal, eat extra rice and miso soup, get full, and end up dozing off during the afternoon meeting, so be careful. This is a recommended spot when you come to Fukuoka. Note that this restaurant used to be called "Katsu" which only served kushikatsu, but it changed to Kushisho in the 1990s. "Katsu" is located in Fukuoka Daimaru, but it is not certain if it was originally the same "Katsu" that was here.

Today's lunch was at Kushiya-san. We visited the store on Watanabe Street. We arrived just as they opened, but there were already 7-8 people in line. We managed to get in just before the second round! They offer a great lunch deal for 1000 yen and my companion had the Hirekatsu lunch for 1300 yen, with unlimited rice and miso soup refills. However, we opted for a glass of draft beer so we didn't go for refills. There were 7 types of skewers, all delicious. It's been a while since I had kushikatsu and I'm really enjoying it. The Hirekatsu had 6 skewers and it was delicious. I might go for that next time. It's a great value lunch that's worth lining up for. Thank you for the meal!

It's a shame that I can't go often because work never seems to finish early, but I want to go 1-2 times a month! There are various unique items, so it never gets boring! It's exciting! They recommend what to order and are very kind! I tend to drink and eat too much, so I need to be careful! It's tough when you can't tell what's what in the photos! Haha! It was a fun time! I will visit again.

It had been six months since I last visited Kushiya-san, and there was a change - it had become a non-smoking establishment. Understandable in these times. This time, I visited with two friends, both of whom were first-timers. They kept saying how delicious everything was, and I was satisfied with the recommendation. I could only manage to eat 8 skewers, but I made up for it by drinking - I had two glasses of draft beer and one bottle of shochu. And of course, we went to Nakasu afterwards. We ordered delivery from Blue Lagoon, but I didn't take any photos. Thank you for the meal.

Today's fifth contestant in the impromptu elimination round of the deep-fried skewer championship is the well-established Hakata restaurant "Kushisho". I decided to order the special deep-fried skewer set meal for 2,300 yen, which comes with a salad, pickles, and simmered daikon. Although it would have been nice if they had asked me about the miso soup before bringing it, the skewers themselves were delicious and well-crafted. The set included seven skewers with toppings such as yellowtail with green onions, crab claw, beef kalbi with Japanese sauce, small shrimp wrapped in tofu skin, lily bulb and blowfish, prawn, and green asparagus. Each skewer was flavorful and satisfying, although I wish they were bite-sized to prevent any risk of burning my mouth. Overall, I enjoyed the meal and would love to come back for dinner next time to experience more of their offerings.

Lunch on this day was in Watanabe-dori, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City. I went to "Kushisho Watanabe-dori Store". It is located near Hotel New Otani Hakata, just a short walk from Watanabe-dori Station. The interior of the restaurant has only counter seats. They serve freshly fried food from the central frying area. I ordered the Kushikatsu set lunch. It was just ¥1,000 and you can have unlimited rice and miso soup. First, they served items other than Kushikatsu on the table. Unlimited rice, miso soup, delicious pickles, simmered hijiki seaweed, cold tofu with nametake mushrooms, and salad. It all looked so delicious! They also had furikake on the table, so I sprinkled some yukari on my rice. The Kushikatsu was served hot and fresh. There were shrimp, sausage & green pepper, pumpkin, and eggplant stuffed with meat, among others. Everything was delicious! The eggplant stuffed with meat was especially tasty. The quality for the price of ¥1,000 was too good to be true! Thank you for the meal. Today's lunch cost ¥1,000.

Great value for money at the kushikatsu lunch at Kusho in Watanabe-dori, right next to New Otani where the meeting ended. It was lunchtime and the restaurant was bustling. We were able to be seated quickly since we arrived early. The lunch set came with rice and miso soup, and the kushikatsu set was only 900 yen. Starting with the natural shrimp, which had a nice firm texture, followed by quail, pumpkin, and a meat-stuffed eggplant. The quality was evident from the start. The meatball-like meat skewer, pork and green onion dumpling, and lastly the meat-stuffed eggplant all looked quite similar, but regardless, the value for 900 yen was great. Thank you for the meal.

I visited Kusho-san for the first time in a while to try their dishes in May of the first year of Reiwa. While drinking beer, I stopped at 7 skewers because I have lost my appetite. Well, I had already been drinking at an izakaya before coming here, so I couldn't eat much. I might come back in May to continue where I left off. ^_^

I was dining alone for lunch that day, so I decided to wander around the area near Hotel New Otani to have sushi or tempura. The weather was nice but cold, and as I walked, my stomach seemed to be in tempura mode. It was around 12:15, and the restaurant was not very busy, with only about 50% of the tables occupied. I was seated at the counter at the back. Most people were ordering the tempura set lunch (7 pieces) for 900 yen. The counter had trays with salads and side dishes already set up, which helped speed up the service. In the kitchen, two men were frying the tempura and preparing rice and miso soup. The tempura was being fried from the pre-skewered ingredients, and I eagerly awaited their completion. On the table, there were complimentary toppings like egg sprinkles, shirasu (whitebait) with pickled vegetables, and yukari seasoning. The rice was served with shirasu and yukari seasoning. I started with the shrimp and quail egg tempura, which were crispy and delicious. The salt and sauce options for dipping were both great. Next was the lotus root, which had a nice crunchy texture and a hint of sweetness. The side dishes like pickled vegetables and simmered hijiki were also well-prepared. The tempura included white fish with tartar sauce, followed by dumplings and minced meatballs, and then pork with green onions. The rice and miso soup were refillable, but I resisted the temptation to get seconds. Despite feeling quite full, I thought the set lunch was a great deal at 900 yen.
