"In the end, I think Men Tokuya is the tastiest. It's been quite a while since I heard this from the owner of a certain izakaya, and I immediately went to check it out. The result was that I started visiting regularly at Men Tokuya in Takasago. This place is not often featured on TV or social media, but during lunchtime, it's always crowded with customers, and even during off-peak hours, there are quite a few people dining. The ramen is incredibly delicious, and surprisingly affordable. The ramen is priced at 580 yen, which is cheap considering the quality, but the real value of this place lies in the additional options like extra noodles for 80 yen, adding fried rice for +150 yen, or getting gyoza and rice set for +200 yen, making it easy to enjoy a delicious and satisfying meal at a low cost. This is why the locals have been supporting it for a long time.
The building where Men Tokuya is located was built in 2000, and I remember that Men Tokuya has been there since the building was constructed, making it a well-established restaurant for over 20 years. The interior of the restaurant has a vintage feel, with blackened floors from oil stains and tables that show signs of age. Despite being located on the ground floor of a designer apartment building, the atmosphere inside the restaurant is quite unique.
Recently, a customer asked me if there was a good tonkotsu ramen place nearby my real estate office, so I decided to visit Men Tokuya with them. The entrance to the restaurant is a bit hidden, but there are two parking spaces available. We parked in one of them and approached the restaurant. Outside the restaurant, there are A-frame signs displaying the menu with prices, and the set menu options are also highlighted. The restaurant's opening hours are from 11:30 to 16:30 for lunch and 19:00 to 23:00 for dinner, closed on Sundays. During the period of priority measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the restaurant closes at 20:00.
Upon entering the restaurant, we were asked to sanitize our hands by the female staff, and then we were seated at a table. The restaurant has a spacious interior with table and counter seating, and it is operated by three staff members - two in the kitchen and one in the dining area. The table is equipped with condiments like pepper, sesame, soy sauce, gyoza sauce, chili oil, pickled ginger, and spicy pickled vegetables.
I usually order the wonton ramen here, but this time I went for the regular ramen with fried rice set and a side of gyoza. The dishes arrived promptly, and the ramen had a rich broth with a good balance of flavors and a nice aroma of pork bone. The noodles were homemade and delicious, but they tended to soften quickly, so it's best to eat them quickly. The chashu pork was well-cooked and flavorful.
Overall, the ramen at Men Tokuya is top-notch, and the prices are very reasonable. The quality and taste of the food here make it worth a visit, and I can see why it's a favorite among the locals."
