On this day, I decided to visit "Handmade Soba K" on a whim.
◇Exterior and Interior
The exterior exudes a sense of tradition or a nostalgic downtown atmosphere. Sorry if this is a bit biased.
◇Seating
There are 8 seats at the face-to-face counter, one table for 2 people, and it's a cozy space.
◇Menu Composition
The main focus is on soba, with only kashiwa meshi (chicken and egg rice bowl) as another option. The items I ordered were as follows:
・Zaru Soba (900 yen)
→ The soba flour used is only from Mashu, Hokkaido. It takes a bit of time before it is served, but a beautiful plate of soba arrived. The condiments included were wasabi, green onions, and grated daikon. The dipping sauce was a sharp and spicy type, which might be rare in Kitakyushu. The soba noodles were thin-cut with 100% buckwheat. They were quite thin! They were moist and had a good texture. The aroma of the soba was decent, and I enjoyed it while adding condiments. The dipping sauce paired well with the noodles, and it was delicious. Surprisingly, the grated daikon also complemented the dish well. And for some reason, I really liked the soba-yu (hot water used to boil soba). It was unexpectedly to my liking, and I could drink it all down smoothly.
◆Strong Points
You can enjoy authentic handmade 100% buckwheat soba here. They do not boil the noodles all at once, showing the owner's dedication! While there are some soba restaurants in the city that use domestic soba flour, it is rare to always use Mashu flour like this place.
◆Customer Service
The service was polite and kind.
◆Summary
It had been a while since I last visited, and I once again thought it was delicious. However, since it seems to be run by a husband and wife, the service can be a bit slow, so if you're in a hurry, it might be better to choose another soba restaurant. Despite the small space, I like the effort and atmosphere of wanting customers to enjoy delicious soba. Thank you for the meal!
