I enjoyed some delicious tonkatsu at the specialty restaurant "Kuromatsu" located in the back alley of The Ritz-Carlton Fukuoka. This place uses the highest quality black pork directly from farms in Kagoshima Prefecture. I tried the following dishes: - Black Pork Thick Cut Rib Roast Set 240g for ¥2,400 - Black Pork Special Fillet Cutlet Set 180g for ¥2,400 The tonkatsu was perfectly fried with a slight pink color, the rib roast was juicy with sweet fat, and the fillet was tender and moist. The portions were generous but I had no problem finishing it. There were many inbound tourists enjoying the food as well. This place really knows how to make delicious tonkatsu. I arrived at "Kuromatsu," a black pork tonkatsu restaurant, just before 2:00 pm after finishing my business at the government office. There was one group of customers ahead of me, but I was able to get a seat without waiting in line, as there were still customers coming in until the last order at 2:30 pm. After waiting for about 5 minutes, I was directed to the counter with 8 seats, but I mentioned feeling cramped with the fixed chairs. Due to it being close to the end of the lunch hours, I was able to get a table with 12 seats in the back. The flexibility of the staff gave me high hopes for the food. After a 20-minute wait, I was served the "Black Pork Special Fillet Tonkatsu Set." The fillet cutlet, with a crispy breaded coating, was beautifully pink in the center and oozing with juices, presented in an Arita-yaki dish, adding to the luxurious feel. I first tried a piece with rock salt to savor the umami of the fillet, then tried another with wasabi soy sauce. However, the classic combination of mustard and tonkatsu sauce was the most familiar and paired perfectly with rice. The restaurant seemed to be very popular among Korean customers, as I overheard both the previous and subsequent customers speaking in Korean, making me feel like I was in Korea.

I was curious about the black pork tonkatsu restaurant, Kuromatsu. It was my first visit, so I ordered the standard hirekatsu set meal (1,500 yen) (orders are made in ticket style... which was a mismatch with the stylish interior, unfortunately). Since it's black pork, the meat is naturally tender. I usually don't follow the recommended way to eat at recommended restaurants, but the wasabi soy sauce was really delicious! It was a bit sweet and light, even though it was tonkatsu. The pork cutlet seemed more like ground meat? And only green onions as toppings. Can that be called pork soup? It would be fine with just simple miso soup with tofu and green onions...

Recently, there are a lot of tourists everywhere. It's so busy and thriving. In a nutshell, it's never boring. I used to get tired of tonkatsu because it was often too fatty, but this place is more on the mild side. I ordered a set of loin and fillet. The texture is really good, but the meat flavor isn't very strong. Adding tonkatsu sauce or salt makes it taste better. It's easy to get a seat, so I recommend going on a weekday.

Tonkatsu is always dependent on the breading and the meat. In this case, both are perfect. The quality of the meat should rank high nationwide. The breading is not too greasy, but crispy. The Rib Roast set meal for 2400 yen. This thickness and size for 2400 yen?! It's cheap... It could easily be priced at 3000 yen for this size. First of all, I tried eating it without anything added. The combination of umami and sweetness is amazing, I was at a loss for words in front of something so delicious. The condiments available are salt, lemon, wasabi, yuzu pepper sauce, sweet Itoshima soy sauce, and regular sauce. The soy sauce is too disappointing, why not use regular spicy soy sauce when they have wasabi available. Maybe because the natural soy sauce without additives is expensive...? Fatty, juicy pork meat is best enjoyed with spicy soy sauce. So, I ended up squeezing lemon and eating it with wasabi salt. I can easily imagine how delicious it would be with spicy soy sauce, so it's a shame. I can't give a good evaluation on the condiments. However, the truffle dressing for the cabbage is fantastic. I usually struggle with eating cabbage because I don't like it, but thanks to this dressing, it was easy to eat. The miso soup with a small amount of pork at the bottom didn't go well, the bonito flavor was too strong... It's sad that it's not a pork-filled miso soup. The satisfaction level of the tonkatsu itself is high, so I want to give it a higher rating, but the details are still lacking, so it's a 3.6. It's already cheap enough, but I hope they consider improving the soy sauce and pork soup even if they raise the price.

The place is on the first floor of a building in Daimyo, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture. Even before opening time, there is a line in front of the shop. After waiting for almost an hour after opening, we were finally seated at a table. This time, I ordered the limited quantity Rib Roast, while my companion ordered the Pork Fillet Cutlet. The shop specializes in Kagoshima black pork. The Rib Roast was 250g and very generous in portion. The slightly pink pork had a perfect balance of sweetness from the fat and umami from the meat, surprising us with its deliciousness. It was tender and tasted great with salt, wasabi soy sauce, or sauce. The Pork Fillet Cutlet was also very tender and melted in the mouth. The dressing for the cabbage was special and to our liking. I ordered the thick-cut rib roast set meal. Despite being thick-cut, the meat was tender and had a beautiful pink color inside. It was a bit greasy, so I felt a little heavy as I ate more, but I could overcome it with salt or sauce. However, there was one point that I couldn't quite accept. That is, extra rice is charged. It's a bit disappointing for a tonkatsu restaurant to do that. If it weren't for that, it would be a highly rated restaurant.

Since it was Sunday, the restaurant was full from the opening, so I entered at 11:20 and waited for about 30 minutes before getting a seat. Today, as well as on other days, most of the customers are travelers from Korea. I thought Koreans preferred beef over pork, but the deliciousness here seems to be universal. By the time I left the restaurant, quite a few people were waiting in line.

This time, I ordered the Black Pork Chateaubriand Fillet Cutlet set meal. It was served after about 10 minutes. The pork made from Nanshu black pork is surprisingly delicious! It's tasty enough even without any sauce. The meat is juicy and tender, with no distinctive pork flavor, just high-quality fat. The coating is crispy and perfect. The rice is also delicious, and the miso soup has pork in it. This is one of the best tonkatsu restaurants in Fukuoka where you can enjoy incredibly delicious tonkatsu.

I usually order the regular Hirekatsu Gozen, but this time I tried the premium one which is 600 yen more expensive. It was my first time trying the special premium version. The portion was bigger with an additional 60 grams, giving it more satisfying. The taste was the same as usual, with a sweet flavor, tender texture, and refreshing taste. However, the price of 2,400 yen for a set meal makes me hesitate a bit. I know freshly fried food is delicious, but it's a bit extravagant to eat it all at once. I savored it slowly. I hope to try the Chateaubriand Hirekatsu Gozen priced at 2,800 yen someday.

Visited during the day on a regular weekday! About 6 people in line! Slow turnover, had to wait about 30 minutes to enter! Then it took about 20 minutes until the food was served! Ordered the limited quantity black pork thick-cut rib loin set and menchi katsu from the ticket machine! Additional servings of rice and other side dishes cost extra! The tonkatsu had a slightly pink color inside and was fried perfectly! The black pork, directly delivered from a farm in Kagoshima, had a crispy coating with a natural sweetness and was incredibly tender and delicious!! This is amazing!! There were 4 types of sauce: 1) sweet wasabi soy sauce, 2) tonkatsu sauce, 3) yuzu pepper, and 4) natural salt from the Andes. I tried them all, but the salt was the best by far! It enhanced the sweetness of the pork and was fantastic! The menchi katsu was also crispy, tender, and incredibly flavorful! It's a must-try for only 300 yen! The rice was shiny, freshly cooked, and incredibly delicious!! This tonkatsu reminds me of Maruyama Kippei and Tonkatsu Aoi in Tokyo! It's sure to be in the top 100 next year! In June 2023, I went on a trip to Fukuoka after a year and two months. I got off at Tenjin Station on the Fukuoka City Subway, exited from exit 2, and walked from "Meiji Street" to "Tenjin Nishi Street" and then to "Ome Komaenoki Street" where I found the restaurant I was looking for, called "Kuromatsu" specializing in black pork tonkatsu. They serve the highest quality black pork from a contracted farm in Kagoshima, aged in a special storage facility. I ordered the Black Pork Chateaubriand Fillet Katsu set meal for 2,800 yen. The meal included a beautiful fillet katsu, cabbage, rice, and miso soup. The fillet katsu was incredibly tender with a crispy coating, bursting with flavor and sweetness from the meat and fat. I enjoyed it with truffle dressing, salt, wasabi soy sauce, and tonkatsu sauce, savoring each bite. The miso soup was also delicious. Located in the area of 2-1-38 Daimyo, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City, it is a 10-minute walk from Nishitetsu Fukuoka Tenjin Station and about a 10-minute walk from Akasaka Station on the subway. It is situated in front of the former Daimyo Elementary School, which is behind the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, scheduled to open in June. This restaurant relocated from Haruyoshi in November 2021! They are known for using carefully selected Kurobuta pork from Minami-Shu Farm in Kagoshima. Currently, they have branches in Fukuoka and Sapporo, and it seems they are planning to expand nationwide in the future. Minami-Shu Kurobuta is a result of efforts to create a breed by crossing the British Berkshire breed with the Kagoshima native Berkshire breed at the Kagoshima Livestock Experimental Station. It is known for its fine muscle fibers, tender texture, lack of odor, low fat content, high amino acid content, and sweetness. The pigs are raised for about 8 months, longer than the usual 6-month period for regular pigs, resulting in a weight of about 114 kg at the time of shipment. The interior of the restaurant features a casual atmosphere with a mix of counter and table seating, with a modern Japanese design theme. When I visited during lunchtime, most of the customers were tourists from Korea. We tried their most popular dishes, the limited "Kurobuta Thick Rib Roast Cutlet Set" and the "Kurobuta Chateaubriand Fillet Cutlet." The Kurobuta Chateaubriand Fillet was thickly sliced and slightly pink, visually stunning! The first bite with Andes rock salt ground with an electric mill for a "light salt" taste was delicious. First visit to the famous tonkatsu specialty restaurant, Kurobuta Tonkatsu Kuromatsu. The restaurant relocated from Haruyoshi in November 2021, and initially opened in Haruyoshi in April 2020 as a takeout and delivery only store. Not sure if the capital is the same, but in the same month of November 2021, Kurobuta Tonkatsu Kuromatsu Sapporo Akarenga Terrace Store also opened, showing momentum and popularity. Located one street south from Meiji Street, behind the old Daimyo Elementary School, there is a long entrance with a waiting room inside, and a ticket machine to the left after entering. The menu mainly consists of tonkatsu set meals and katsudon. There are loin katsu, rib loin katsu, fillet katsu, and chateaubriand fillet katsu set meals, each with a special set with a larger gram size. There is also a katsudon with black pork loin katsu, including a special option. I was really curious about the katsudon, but this time I purchased the most popular special loin katsu set meal (200g) and curry roux. It's been about half a year since the last time I visited this restaurant. It's always crowded with inbound customers from Korea, so it's usually full at lunchtime... Today, there were more Korean customers than Japanese. There were two groups of customers asking in good Japanese if they had Chateaubriand. I'd like to try ordering Chateaubriand for lunch someday too.

Good evening! It's been a while since I ate out. Lately, I've been really into cooking at home and haven't been dining out much, so I've been neglecting updates. Today, I had a lunch meeting in Akasaka. I decided to indulge in my current obsession, tonkatsu. If you were to ask me what I wanted to eat, I would definitely say tonkatsu first. That's how much I've been into tonkatsu these days. The restaurant is located about a 1-minute walk from Akasaka Station, making it easy to find with its street-level storefront. I visited the restaurant around noon, which is the peak lunch hour, and despite it being a Monday and the weather being a bit gloomy, the restaurant was almost full. The cleanliness of the restaurant and the quality of the staff's service are top-notch. Even before eating, I could tell it was a good restaurant. I'm looking forward to it. Now, let's get to the order. - Oolong tea When eating tonkatsu, it's either black oolong tea or oolong tea for me. I want to reduce the cholesterol impact as much as possible. - Black pork chateaubriand tenderloin tonkatsu set It was delicious. Delicious. Too delicious. This is the level where I feel it's worth paying this price. It's flavorful without being heavy. It goes so well with rice. I ended up getting a rice refill without realizing it. Because it's so delicious. What can I do? Also, the truffle dressing on the cabbage was so delicious that I wanted to buy it. With just this dressing and rice, I could eat two bowls. The staff's thoughtfulness was also great, with explanations of the meal in front of the ticket machine and explanations of the condiments when the meal was brought over. The electric pepper mill with rock salt was personally easy to use and impressed me. I was delighted that my first dining out in a while turned out to be a hit, and I definitely plan to go back. I arrived at a tonkatsu restaurant near the old Daimyo Elementary School around 10:50 am on a Sunday, but there were already about 3 groups waiting as it is a popular place. They use a ticket vending machine system where you pay first, and it says that 5000 yen and 10000 yen bills are not accepted, but you can ask the staff for change. The menu offers various options like loin cutlet, fillet cutlet, combinations, etc., and I ordered the "Black Pork Loin and Fillet Cutlet Set (2000 yen)". There was truffle dressing on the table, and when you pour it over the cabbage, the truffle aroma is amazing, making you want to eat more vegetables. The dressing is so good that I want to buy it! The red meat of the loin cutlet has a smooth texture with a concentrated umami flavor, and the fat is transparent, not greasy, and refreshing! The fillet cutlet is not dry, with a hint of pink remaining, whetting your appetite. My companion ordered the Black Pork Thick Rib Loin Cutlet Set, so I tried a piece, and it felt like layers of red meat and fat melting in your mouth. When you want to indulge in a luxurious mood, the rib loin is recommended!
