Kumaya is known for selling delicious fu-manju, which is anko wrapped in fu (wheat gluten). My wife and I stopped by here to buy some fu-manju. The shop had a variety of traditional Japanese sweets, including the popular fu-manju. We bought three different sweets, two of each. The fu-manju cost 180 yen each. It is made with carefully selected red beans from Hokkaido wrapped in fu, giving it a unique texture and a delicious taste. The yomogi fu-manju costs 180 yen and has a fragrant yomogi flavor. The ichigo warabi costs 220 yen. The shop is located along Showa Street. Located north of Ohori Park, near Akasaka Station. It is about a 3-minute walk from Akasaka Station. Situated on a main street, this shop exudes a traditional atmosphere. The main store is in Nagasaki Prefecture, with a history of over 250 years. It is a Japanese confectionery shop offering items such as dorayaki, castella, and unique treats like burdock root mochi and wheat gluten manju. On this visit, I purchased the wheat gluten manju in three flavors: yomogi with sweet bean paste, sesame with chunky sweet bean paste, and seasonal sakura with sweet bean paste. The texture of each was soft, elastic, and smooth. They were wrapped in bamboo leaves, making them easy to eat. While there were seasonal options like sakura, my favorite was the popular yomogi flavor. It had a slight bitterness that paired well with the sweetness of the bean paste. Although the prices may seem a bit high when considering each piece individually, the health benefits associated with wheat gluten and the surprisingly generous portion made it a valuable experience.

I found this place nearby when I had some errands to run, and decided to buy some souvenirs for myself as well. The main store seems to be in Hirado, as there is a sign outside indicating that it has been established for over 250 years, so it seems like a long-established shop. They used to have a dining area before, but now they only sell products. Since it was before 4 pm, there were not many products left. They had summer-like sweets made from kudzu. I bought 6 pieces for home use, costing 1,233 yen including a 3 yen bag fee (tax included; credit cards accepted). The prices are tax-included. The items I bought were: - Fu Manju (Yomogi Fu: strained sweet bean paste: 180 yen x 2) ... Fu Manju is delicious, with a chewy texture and a good balance of sweet bean paste. - Kuzu Sakura (190 yen x 2) ... I like kudzu-based sweets, and the strained sweet bean paste is not too sweet, with a nice kudzu texture. - Suiren (270 yen) ... It has a rich matcha flavor and a soft texture. It might be even more delicious when paired with green tea. - Butter Dorayaki (260 yen) ... My husband ate this and said it was delicious. All the items were elegant and tasty. I later realized that their specialty is "Gobou Mochi." I like burdock, so I should have bought it. (^◇^;)

Kumaya Fukuoka Store is a traditional Japanese sweets shop located a 5-7 minute walk from Akasaka Station. As you walk towards Ohori Park from Akasaka, you'll spot this charming shop along the main street. While it may have seating in the back, it seems to mainly focus on takeout. I purchased their popular yomogi mochi, generously coated with kinako powder. Inside, the mochi is filled with sweet red bean paste, creating a delightful combination of chewy mochi and smooth bean paste that is loved by many. If you're looking for Japanese sweets as souvenirs, this shop is perfect for you. Definitely worth a visit! Thank you for the delicious treat!

I happened to pass by in the evening to buy some Japanese sweets for souvenirs, so I stopped by. The store is located on a corner along a main street, but I had never noticed it before. I had them pack chestnut sweet paste and sweet potato jelly in a box for me. While waiting, I couldn't resist the tempting chestnut sweet paste priced at 190 yen (including tax), so I also bought 2 pieces for home. When I got home, I tried the chestnut sweet paste. It had a strong chestnut aroma, low sweetness, but a refined flavor. It was delicious. I found it a bit powdery, but I think it's the natural powdery texture of chestnuts.

Burdock rice cakes caught my attention, so I went to try them out and found a long line. There was also a long line at the neighboring mentaiko shop. The burdock rice cakes were similar to Tokushima's stick uiro, with a familiar taste. Tokushima has refined red bean paste! The burdock rice cakes come in various flavors like cherry blossom and brown sugar. The brown sugar one was gentle and nice. The chestnut sweet potato was a bit sweet. But you know what was really delicious? The steamed bun with smooth red bean paste filling. It was amazing. Thank you for the meal.

As usual, I came to this shop to buy fu-manju. I really like the fu-manju here. When I was paying at the register, I saw a sign that said "We have started serving chilled zenzai." Chilled zenzai? They started serving it? So I decided to try the chilled shiratama milk zenzai. It comes in a bottle and is nicely chilled. The balance between the milk and sweet red bean paste is perfect, with a gentle sweetness. It's delicious. The shiratama is soft and chewy. I definitely want to eat this again, but after finishing it, the empty bottle is a bit... in the way. I feel bad throwing it away, so I'm using it as a shiso plant holder. I wonder if they would take it back if I brought it back... How about trying some chilled zenzai as summer comes to an end? Thank you for the meal.

I was hesitant to try Fu Manju because of its name, but I am completely hooked on the Fu Manju here. Watching the fluffy Fu Manju floating in the water gives a refreshing feeling, and just visiting the shop in the summer makes me happy. The Yomogi Manju is filled with elegant smooth red bean paste. The photo is of me indulging in Fu Manju at my desk. How shameless... I highly recommend it as a gift. Not only the Fu Manju, but also the customer service is elegant and polite. I will definitely be back soon!

The weather has been getting nice, so I went to Kumaya to have some fu manju. I really love the fu manju here... the chewy texture and sweet filling are the best. They had a limited edition jasmine flavor, so I bought three different kinds and had them wrapped up. Then I saw "butter dorayaki" written on the package... I have to try it!!! (Feeling a strong obligation). When I got home, I made a Japanese sweets set and had some tea. The dorayaki made with Kyushu pancake flour has a chewy texture and the butter soaked into the skin is amazing. The fu manju was delicious as always, and when I washed it down with cold tea, it was a very pleasant afternoon. They also had sweets shaped like sparkling hydrangeas, so I want to try those next time. Thank you for the meal~

I was doing a food tour with my friend, and we stopped here to replenish our sugar levels. We had a dorayaki for 210 yen. Takeout is the norm, but it was pouring outside so we ate inside. It was chewy and delicious! Zenzai is only available hot during this season.

I purchased three types of fu manju from this long-established Japanese confectionery shop in Nagasaki to enjoy the autumn moon. Each manju is wrapped in bamboo leaves, allowing you to enjoy the aroma. I decided to savor each one, starting with sesame, roasted green tea, and a thin skin that is chewy and offers a unique texture. The filling inside is not too sweet, complementing the flavor of the thin skin and the filling nicely. They also offer shipping for souvenirs to Nagasaki and Fukuoka, and can be frozen, but it's recommended to confirm for those who are far away.

I bought a set of manju with a lucky cat design and some baked goods as a greeting gift. It cost 3000 yen. The lucky cat was cute. The manju with wheat gluten was not suitable for a gift as it had a short expiration date, so I bought it for myself and enjoyed it on the same day. It was chewy and delicious.

I saw Mairebi-sama enjoying Kashiwa Mochi and it reminded me of Children's Day (*゚▽゚)ノ I was planning to stop by the office in the evening, so I decided to visit a shop on the way. It was already past 3 PM, and the regular Kashiwa Mochi was sold out. However, there were still a few pieces of Yomogi Mochi with sweet red bean paste (¥170-) left! It seems to be quite popular (*ฅ́˘ฅ̀*) I was looking forward to trying it♪♡o。+..:*♡o。+..:*♡o。+..:*♡o。+..:*♡o。+:* When I opened the box, a nice fragrance of oak leaves filled the air. It really gives you a sense of the season (*^_^*) As I took a bite, the scent of yomogi rushed through my nose! The aroma of oak and yomogi is so delightful (*♥д♥*) The mochi had a unique texture that I've never experienced before. It was incredibly chewy, making the same sound as in the old Japanese folktales when the old man and old woman were eating. I could really understand how they felt! The sweet red bean paste was also of high quality, with plump azuki beans. It was very delicious ✧︎ I'm interested in trying their wheat cakes and almond jelly too, so I would like to visit again (=^▽^=)☆.:*・゜ My mother called me saying, "It's Children's Day," which made me laugh (lol) No matter how old you get, you're still a child (´◠ω◠`)

This is a traditional Japanese confectionery shop that I often visit. Even those who are not fond of the heavy sweetness of traditional Japanese sweets can enjoy the fluffy texture of their wheat buns. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to someone who doesn't like sweets, but for those who like sweets but find cakes and cream too heavy lately (like me), this place is a delight. The wheat buns are soaked in water and wrapped freshly upon ordering, with a moist and chewy skin and a subtly sweet red bean paste filling that is simply outstanding. Their burdock root rice cakes are also famous, but the round shape wrapped in bamboo leaves makes for a cute souvenir, so I highly recommend it for gifts. Thank you for the delicious treats as always~~

I first tried burdock rice cakes when I was born, at my grandfather's house in Hirado. It's been many years since then... I've always loved burdock rice cakes ❤️ There are 5 types of burdock rice cakes here, and I bought 2 of each separately in a paper box. When I opened it, they were facing in different directions... so I rearranged them neatly and took a picture. 😄 Also, they are only wrapped in plastic, so the top and bottom are exposed, and after 3 days they will definitely dry out, so please enjoy them soon. The cherry blossom flavor has cherry blossom mochi leaves kneaded in, and it has a nice scent and taste. I wonder if the brown sugar one would go well with coffee? The matcha and sesame flavors each offer a different taste to enjoy. In the end, it's a chewy rice cake made from glutinous rice, but the poppy seeds on top are the highlight of the burdock rice cakes. Fragrant and delicious. Thank you for the meal. ☺️

It feels cool and summery. In addition to the usual steamed wheat gluten bun, I also tried warabi mochi for the first time. The kinako powder was surprisingly sweet... Is it black syrup? The sweetness of the jelly was just right, so I ate it without adding kinako powder. It's already prepared to be eaten as is, but I want to transfer it to a dish and savor it elegantly. Thank you for the delicious meal!

This is a traditional Japanese confectionery shop located about 500 meters west of Akasaka Station in Fukuoka, serving sweets from Hirado, Nagasaki Prefecture. I found this shop in a credit card information magazine and decided to visit while in Fukuoka for a weekend event. I purchased the following sweets:
- Fu Manju with Yomogi (fine red bean paste) - 162 yen (tax included)
- Fu Manju with ground sesame (chunky red bean paste) - 162 yen
The Fu Manju is a representative sweet of this shop, made with raw gluten wrapped around sweet red bean paste and mixed with yomogi or ground sesame. The Yomogi Fu has a great collaboration of fine red bean paste and yomogi, with a soft and moist texture and long-lasting flavor. On the other hand, the ground sesame Fu doesn't have as much impact, with the gluten lingering in the mouth even after 5 or 10 minutes.
I also bought the Gobomochi Assortment (5 pieces) for 540 yen, which is a traditional confectionery from Hirado, made from steamed and pounded rice flour with white and black sugar, topped with poppy seeds. It is a beloved local sweet and was selected as a gift for the Nagasaki National Athletic Meet in 1969. The texture is similar to uirou, with a simple sweetness and a rustic flavor from the rice and subtle sugar taste.
I wanted to purchase the Jiwari, a sweet made with rum-soaked dried apples, raisins, dried persimmons, walnuts, and honey agar mixed with honey, but it was sold out. It is served with a side of wasanbon sugar for a unique taste experience. Unfortunately, I couldn't try it as it was quickly sold out after being featured in the information magazine.

This is my favorite traditional Japanese confectionery shop near Maizuru Park. I tried all the varieties of burdock root mochi, and I enjoyed the crunchy texture of the burdock root and the subtle sweetness that made it easy to eat. The bite-sized portions allowed me to finish them all in one go. Thank you for the delicious treats!
