Fukuoka City Chuo Ward Nagahama・Fukuoka City Fish Market 13-story office building <Market Kaikan> on the 1st floor, a seafood restaurant specializing in fresh fish dishes in the food court that can be used by both market-related people and general customers. The store name "Uogashi" reflects the fact that it is located in a "fish market". The store opens at 7 am and closes at 2:30 pm for "morning and lunch" business. Managed by Tatsuma Inoue, who is also known for handling wholesale and retail of fresh fish in Fukuoka City, and serves as the chairman of the Fukuoka Prefecture Soccer Association, this restaurant is also part of his establishments in the market, including the conveyor belt sushi restaurant "Market Sushi Uotatsu" and "Uogashi Nishigawa Shokudo". Currently, the store is run by his son, Takeshi, as the 2nd generation owner and chef. There are 7 restaurants in the <Market Kaikan>, but this one has the most variety of seafood dishes. The default "seafood bowl" is priced at ¥650, and the most expensive regular menu item, the full course "Uogashi Gozen", is also very reasonable at ¥1,760. The restaurant has counter seats, a hall with table seats, and a large hall that can accommodate up to 100 people. It is very popular among foreign tourists and the general public. However, there were many restaurants in the Akasaka and Otemon areas, but I couldn't find any that were open in the morning. So, I decided to visit the dining hall at the fish market in Nagahama, which is close to Akasaka and mainly operates in the morning. It takes about 10 minutes to walk from Akasaka Station on the subway to the "Market Kaikan" with a food court on the 1st floor. This time, I was in the mood for a "seafood bowl", so I decided to visit "Hakata Uogashi". When you enter the main entrance of the Market Kaikan, there is a hall with a high ceiling. At the back of the elevator hall in front of the entrance, you will find "Uogashi". Before entering, there is a tablet thermometer installed in front of the cash register for temperature measurement and hand sanitization with alcohol. The interior of the restaurant consists of a hall with table seats behind the cash register, a counter and table seats to the left of the entrance, and a sunken kotatsu-style hall at the back. Acrylic shields are installed between the tables and counter seats, showing that they are taking proper measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. A Southeast Asian male staff member who speaks perfect Japanese greeted me, and I was able to order my meal smoothly.

I went in the morning. The sea urchin seafood bowl was market price, but today I was able to eat it for 1,500 yen! It was delicious. The seafood was tasty, but the rice itself was also delicious with a chewy texture and a sweet flavor, so I enjoyed it all. It was disappointing that the miso soup only had fried tofu in it.

It had been a while since I visited the fish restaurant in Nagahama Market. There was one group ahead of me, but there were plenty of empty seats in the back, so I thought I would be called soon. However, even after 30 minutes, I was not called. There were customers paying their bills, so the staff should have known. It would have been nice if they had said something to us before we had to speak up. The food was delicious though.

On the first day of my trip to Fukuoka, I visited this restaurant for breakfast or lunch. The sushi was thick and fresh, and the taste was delicious, but the portion was quite small. If I visit again, I might try a different menu. The speed of service was also slow, so I'm not sure if I will revisit.

I visited for lunch~. It's understandable that prices have gone up since the old days. I had Set A for 1350 yen, which included Thai simmered fish, seafood bowl, pickles, and fish soup. It was quite a generous portion!! The simmered fish was delicious!! The sashimi was also delicious, I wanted to try the raw horse mackerel sashimi. My child had the fry set for 850 yen, and even though I took a bit, it was crispy!! I'm happy that my child eats well here!

I decided to go on a trip to Hakata on my paid vacation day, thinking about it for three days beforehand. I had planned to have lunch at Nagahama Market, so I chose this restaurant. My impression after going there was that the fish was fresh and had no fishy smell. And the sauce on the table was delicious! Next time I go, I want to try the rice bowl dishes.

It's a typical Wednesday, but I went out for breakfast from my hotel on a business trip. When I travel, eating is always the highlight for me, so it's a shame to just have breakfast at the hotel or convenience store. I searched for a place in Hakata where I could enjoy a delicious breakfast early in the morning, but surprisingly there aren't many options. I found a restaurant attached to a market that opens at 7:00. I arrived around 7:30, and the strong winds from an approaching typhoon made the visit quite windy. Despite the recent bad weather, the restaurant was open as usual. There were two groups of customers inside, and I was seated at the counter. I ordered the "sesame mackerel set meal: 1300 yen" that I had in mind. In front of the counter, there were several prawns swimming in a tank. The food arrived in a few minutes, and as always, it was a generous portion. The amount of sesame mackerel was quite substantial, and it came with a side of simmered fish head (half of the head, equivalent to a whole fish), pickles, and miso soup. Mixing the sesame mackerel with the sauce, and eating it with a piece of rice, brought out the delicious flavor of the mackerel without any fishy smell. I believe sesame mackerel is the best dish to enjoy raw mackerel. The simmered fish head had plenty of meat packed around the head and eyes, providing a satisfying eating experience. Having a cooked dish along with the raw fish-centered set meal adds a nice touch to the overall flavor. The miso soup also had a piece of fish in it, making me feel like I got a good deal. The only downside of this restaurant is that the portion of rice is small, and you have to pay extra for a larger portion or a refill. However, setting aside such minor complaints, it was a very satisfying breakfast.

Sesame seed set meal for 1000 yen. The sesame seeds are delicious. The Thai-style simmered fish is tasty but difficult to eat. The seaweed is delicious. The miso soup has a strong fish broth flavor and is delicious. This building is a wonderland for fish lovers, no matter where you eat the food is delicious and the prices are cheap.

Buri (yellowtail) rough-cooked set meal for 650 yen. Located on the first floor of the 13-story office building at Nagahama in Fukuoka City's fresh fish market, known as Market Kaikan. This is a seafood dish specialty shop in the food court that can be used by both market stakeholders and general customers. Upon arrival, the famous seafood bowl was sold out, so I ordered the Buri rough-cooked set meal. After a short wait, the dish arrived. The portion is too big... There are two pieces of Buri head. The skin part is soft and chewy, while the meat inside is firm and smooth, very fresh. The Buri's eyes are particularly plump and delicious. The seasoning is a sweet and savory simmered broth, a bit on the sweeter side. Definitely a taste of western Japan.

Located inside the Fukuoka Sengyo Kaikan, this restaurant was visited around 12 o'clock noon and was quite crowded. They had fresh spear squid available, and we ordered the "Squid Special" for 1,800 yen, a sashimi assortment, sea bream with sesame, beer, and more. The squid was sweet and incredibly delicious. The eggplant, green pepper, and tempura shrimp were also very tasty. The sashimi was quite good as well, and we left feeling very satisfied. Thank you for the meal!

On the second day of my trip to Hakata, I went to the market building early in the morning for breakfast. Last time I went around 10 o'clock and some of the dishes I wanted, like sesame mackerel, were sold out, so this time I visited right at the opening time of 7 o'clock. My hotel was in the Tenjin Minami area, but I got there in just over 10 minutes by Chari Chari (rental bicycle). There are many Chari Chari stations in Hakata city, so I recommend using them. There is also a station at the market building, and the usage fee from the hotel was around 70 yen. I arrived at 7 o'clock, but even though it was time, the open sign was not up. I waited and eventually they opened about 5 minutes late. Unfortunately, my bad feeling was right as the staff explained that they were not ready with the sashimi dishes yet. It seems that because I went on a Monday, which was their day off, they hadn't prepared the fresh fish early in the morning. If you plan to go on a Monday, it's better to avoid going early in the morning. Despite the disappointment, I was able to order the "Sardine Tempura Set: 900 yen" from the menu. They asked about the rice portion, as the large portion would cost extra. The sardine tempura that arrived was for 3 pieces, eaten with tempura dipping sauce. The crispy batter and the flavorful sardines helped ease the disappointment of not being able to have sashimi. The miso soup had plenty of seaweed, but I remember it used to have fish scraps in it, so I felt a bit disappointed. I wonder if the menu has changed or if it was due to the early morning visit? Even though I was satisfied and ready to leave, the staff seemed to have prepared the sesame mackerel by then, but my stomach was already full. I left the restaurant with a bit of regret, thinking that maybe they should open a bit later only on Monday mornings... My thoughts after the meal were not just about the food.

I visited the restaurant during the day and it was almost full of customers, but luckily I was able to get in quickly. The prices were not displayed outside! Today, I really wanted to eat boiled fish head, so I ordered the cheapest boiled yellowtail head (650 yen) at this restaurant. It was really cheap!! I could have chosen boiled sea bream head as well, but I thought yellowtail would be more flavorful, so I chose that. The food came out in about 5 minutes! The turnover rate seemed good, and I was surprised when the dish arrived. There were 4 big yellowtail heads. So big!! And it also came with Fukuoka's specialty, okyuto! And to my surprise again, there was a big fish in the miso soup!! Can I really eat all of this for 650 yen?! Miso soup -> I was happy that there was a fish in the miso soup. The big fish in the miso soup had a refreshing taste that reset the rich flavor of the boiled yellowtail head. Okyuto -> I had a negative image of it, but it was delicious! The boiled yellowtail head was very delicious! It wasn't too sweet or too spicy, just the right flavor!! I had tried boiled fish head at two different restaurants in Nagahama Kaikan, one was spicy and the other was sweet. I prefer the sweet flavor, so I think this restaurant is the best in terms of taste and cost performance. When it came out, I was determined to order an extra bowl of rice (100 yen) but surprisingly, I was full after eating the boiled yellowtail head because the flavor wasn't too strong. You can eat it eagerly. I was so satisfied that I was full by the time I finished eating. I definitely want to try eel or conger eel next time. I will definitely go back!!

The cost performance is amazing. I indulged in ordering tempura, mixed rice bowl with a side dish, 3 drinks, and 4 sashimi dishes for lunch, all for 4,000 yen. I felt like I was being extravagant for lunch, but I was very satisfied with the price. I definitely want to come back again.

This morning's breakfast was in the Nagahama area of Fukuoka. I went to my favorite place, "Hakata Uogashi Ichiba Kaikan Store". Although the prices have gone up quite a bit compared to before, I still think this place offers the best value for fish dishes in Fukuoka. It's within walking distance from Tenjin which is a plus. On this day, I ordered my favorite sesame mackerel set meal (¥1,300). There are counter seats, table seats, and even tatami seats in the back. Despite that, it's always packed with customers. If you want to eat fish in Fukuoka, this is the place to go. Here is the sesame mackerel set meal. The portion size is incredible. It comes with plenty of sesame mackerel, simmered fish head miso soup, and mozuku vinegar. The rice may look small, but all of this for ¥1,300 is still a great deal. This sesame mackerel in Fukuoka is something you can only taste here. You won't find it in the Kansai region. It was amazing. The mackerel doesn't have a strong fishy smell. It just brings out the best of mackerel. If you visit Fukuoka, I highly recommend trying it. I wish more people in Osaka knew about this. Fukuoka really knows how to cook fish! Thank you for the meal. Today's breakfast cost ¥1,300.

It was our first time at Nagahama Fresh Fish Market, so we decided to go in on a whim. We ordered the silver cod mirin set meal and a plate of 3 grilled oysters for ¥800 (shared with friends). I love silver cod mirin, and this place served a dried fish version that pairs well with alcohol. The grilled oysters were big and juicy.

I visited Nagahama Market in Fukuoka after a long time. The parking lot was crowded during lunchtime, probably due to people coming for lunch. I ordered a seafood bowl. With about five types of seafood, the seafood bowl was really enjoyable. The ikura and sashimi were fresh and delicious. The lighting was a bit dim, but I enjoyed the meal. I arrived at the market hall in Nagahama, Fukuoka City. There are several dining options open in the morning. Today, I decided to have breakfast here. The menu is mainly focused on seafood. At night, it seems like a good place to have some fish and a drink. In the morning, a seafood bowl sounds delicious. I ordered the A set which comes with a mini seafood bowl and simmered mackerel with daikon radish. The A set costs 1350 yen. When it arrived, the simmered mackerel was accompanied by carrots and lotus root. The thickly sliced mackerel had a good amount of volume and was deliciously seasoned. The mini seafood bowl included yellowtail, tuna, and sea bream. Even though it was small, the amount of fish was generous and very fresh. Considering the price, it was a very satisfying meal. The seaweed side dish was also delicious. Thank you for the meal.

Today, I came to the market hall in Nagahama for breakfast. Since the shop I was looking for was closed, I ended up at a different place. Around 8 am on a weekday, there were 4-5 groups of customers already there. I didn't have much time to decide, so I ordered the "special deluxe" seafood bowl. It arrived in about 10 minutes. Hmm... is this it? The appearance was a bit underwhelming for something labeled as "special deluxe". The bowl included medium fatty tuna, shrimp, salmon, sea bream, conger eel, squid, and Spanish mackerel. The rice was white, served with Kyushu soy sauce and sesame sauce. It also came with a side dish of konjac vinegar miso and a soup. The freshness of the ingredients was good. The medium fatty tuna was high quality, and the shrimp had a nice texture and flavor. It was tasty overall, but it didn't quite live up to the expectations of a "special deluxe seafood bowl". It was a seafood bowl that didn't really excite. I wouldn't recommend the special deluxe seafood bowl, but the daily recommendations and set meals seemed to be more promising with good portions. I should have done more research beforehand.

This restaurant was the first place my wife and I visited for seafood when we first arrived in Fukuoka around 2016. Coming from the Kanto region (especially my wife from Shizuoka), our idea of seafood was mainly tuna or bonito, both being red-fleshed fish. However, this restaurant shattered that norm for us. We were surprised to find that the seafood bowl didn't have any red-fleshed fish and that the rice was warm white rice instead of vinegared rice. We were even more surprised to learn that this restaurant was popular. This place became a bit of a trauma for us, as we had become accustomed to and learned to appreciate Fukuoka's seafood bowls, only to find this restaurant quite different. So, visiting Nokonoshima Island Park Fish Market was our last stop. Today, upon entering the restaurant and looking at the menu, I still couldn't let go of my preference for red-fleshed fish. I chose the "tuna bowl + one side dish" for 1,250 yen. My wife ordered the "seasonal bowl + one side dish" for 1,000 yen. I'm not sure what the side dish is, but the dishes that came out seemed like the side dish was the main. Mine was a tuna bowl with a large plate of tuna and amberjack simmered in soy sauce. My wife's bowl had white-fleshed seafood with fried squid shinjo as the side dish. The rice was still warm white rice, which was comforting. The tuna and amberjack simmered dish had a good amount, but it was too much. Also, the strong flavor made it hard to appreciate the delicate taste of the tuna bowl. Balance is important. It was a bit too fatty and made me feel a bit sick. I might not come back, but the "horse mackerel fry set meal" for 1,000 yen that other customers ordered seemed to have a good portion and might be more to my liking.

Fukuoka Travel: For breakfast, we went to a restaurant inside the market. My sons have been to Fukuoka many times and they know various places well. The restaurant inside the market is definitely delicious. Unfortunately, I was a little hungover and couldn't eat much. They have tatami seating and it's also child-friendly. You should definitely check it out!

The day after my business trip to Fukuoka, I went to a market where you can have breakfast early in the morning with a friend. We took a train and walked there. We were looking forward to having sesame mackerel, but it was not that great. However, the fried mackerel on the side was delicious. The rice was a bit lackluster. There were many foreign workers, but the service was good. My friend ordered a seafood bowl. The prices seemed a bit high for tourists. Thank you for the meal.
