Due to the impact of the coronavirus, many people have been eating more at home. In the midst of this, I have started a series where I review food products from convenience stores and supermarkets. Today, I went shopping at my favorite store, Life. Life has delicious food items, especially their sashimi. Other items like bread, salt bread, and side dishes at Life are also great. Some supermarkets may not meet expectations, but I found a cute packaged fluffy bread called "Levan." Upon researching, it claims to be soft enough to be perfect for sandwiches and has been certified by the Japan Care Food Products Council as a "universal design food" for elderly care. I have seen many breads claiming to be certified or fluffy, but not living up to it. However, this one has added lactic acid bacteria, which is a nice touch. The bread is very thinly sliced and incredibly soft. It tears easily with just your hands, showing its softness. The bread is indeed fluffy as advertised. When I tried it, it was surprisingly sweet and delicious. It's good even without any toppings. I have tried many high-end breads with similar claims, but this one is on par with them. I also tried toasting it, but it became too crispy and lost its deliciousness. Levan is perfect for sandwiches, especially fruit sandwiches. It was my first time trying Levan, and I was impressed. Thank you for the meal. Don't let the coronavirus defeat you!

"On the midsummer day of the ox"! What do you all eat to celebrate? It is said that "Hiraga Gen'nai" spread the idea of eating eel on the midsummer day of the ox, and many people believe it, but actually, it is just one theory. It is said that as long as you eat something with the sound "u" in it to avoid summer fatigue on the day of the ox, it doesn't have to be eel! For example, "beef" or anything with "u" will do! Do you know that? Well, putting that aside, my usual routine is to go for a drink after work at a random place, and when I start to feel good and tipsy, I usually head home, haha. But on this day, even though it doesn't really mean much, I decided to go straight home just for the heck of it. "Today is the midsummer day of the ox, so I bought eel to eat at home!" I said... "It's not a celebration or anything, you don't have to eat something that expensive, right? (^^;)" I'm not taking her to an expensive restaurant to eat, so maybe it's not a bad idea to eat something like this at home once in a while, right? On a bed of freshly cooked rice, there is plump eel from Miyazaki Prefecture! It's a waste, so I eat the eel little by little (laughs) When you eat the eel with the soy sauce and sweet mirin-flavored sauce on the rice, it's really delicious! I prefer skewered eel over grilled eel! A luxurious dining table like this with the whole family at home is also nice once in a while, but occasionally, when something unexpected like this happens, it kind of takes the excitement out of it, you know? (^^;)

It seems that a new era has finally arrived in the sumo world, which has been dominated by Mongolian wrestlers for many years. In the January 2017 tournament, Kisenosato achieved victory, becoming the first Japanese-born yokozuna in 19 years since Wakanohana. During the tournament, Sapporo Ichiban released a soy sauce and salt chanko ramen supervised by the Tagonoura stable, to which Kisenosato belongs. Chanko is a meal made by sumo wrestlers, typically a hot pot dish with lots of meat and vegetables. These ramen versions are not packed with meat and vegetables, and they are not meant for gaining weight. The soy sauce chanko ramen has 319kcal, and the salt chanko ramen has 318kcal. The ramen aims to replicate the taste of chanko hot pot supervised by the Tagonoura stable. Released on January 16 by Sanyo Foods, it quickly sold out due to high demand from Kisenosato's hometown of Ibaraki Prefecture and nationwide. Congratulations to Kisenosato on becoming a yokozuna! Enjoy your reign as the new yokozuna and continue to liven up the sumo world from the Osaka tournament onwards.

My wife had a great time with her friends in Naka-Meguro, so for dinner that night we bought a pack of sushi from the supermarket. I've mentioned this before, but when buying packaged sushi, the sushi lover from Fukuoka, Mr. P, said, "When you want to take it easy on making dinner..." (laughs). The sushi we had that day was the "Great Sushi Festival Limited Nigiri Sushi (18 pieces)" for 980 yen. It had Engawa, salmon, tuna, ikura, shrimp, and other toppings that I love, so I could eat all 18 pieces! Even with cheap packaged sushi, I'm fine with it. Before eating, of course, I used his simple trick I learned on TV to make the sushi not as hard as it tends to be, and it was completely different from the original. I was able to enjoy it deliciously this time as well! It's a shame that there are some toppings where his trick doesn't work, but thanks to watching that TV show that day where he showed a simple trick that anyone can do, I can now enjoy packaged sushi anytime. I really have nothing but gratitude for him!

Business hours: 9:30-21:00, Closed on: No regular holidays Menu: Rolled omelette with broth, Yakitori bento box for 645 yen Featured on the show "Sakagami & Sashihara's Unbreakable Store," the "Ebisu Garden Place store" had a significant price difference. The show mentioned 753 yen, but here it was 1058 yen. When asked, the staff explained that they use a brand chicken called "Junwa Akadori," while the one on TV was from a different branch of the same chain. It seems like the show might have mentioned in small print that prices vary by location. So, instead of buying at the "Ebisu Garden Place store," I went to the Naka-Meguro store, where the price was actually lower than the one featured on TV. The bento box had rice topped with yakitori and a side of rolled omelette. The rolled omelette was delicious and took up half of the space in the bento box. It was prominently displayed alongside the "Pork Cutlet Bento" also featured on the show.
