Located right next to Tamachi Station in the Tamachi Station Tower is msb Tamachi, an izakaya specializing in gyutan (beef tongue) dishes. The restaurant has counter seats near the entrance, as well as table and tatami seating towards the back, making it suitable for solo dining or group gatherings. When I visited on a weekday evening, the place was bustling with people who had just finished work. The menu offers a variety of gyutan dishes and a wide selection of sake, allowing you to enjoy gyutan and sake together. Here are the dishes I ordered:
- Draft beer (630 yen): Started with a refreshing draft beer.
- Homemade potato salad (650 yen): A popular menu item with a half-cooked egg on top, allowing you to mix and create your own potato salad. It had gyutan bacon inside, giving it a delicious flavor.
- Gyutan tasting set (1,980 yen): A recommended dish featuring three types of gyutan - grilled with salt, grilled with a secret sauce, and boiled. Each had a unique taste and texture, with the grilled gyutan being chewy, the secret sauce complementing the gyutan well, and the boiled gyutan being tender.
- Shichihonyari Junmai sake from Shiga (640 yen): A dry and fragrant sake that was crisp and refreshing, perfect for pairing with any dish.
- Nasu-yaki (490 yen): Grilled eggplant recommended by the staff, cooked with soy sauce, bonito flakes, and ginger. The eggplant was moist and flavorful.
- Tsukune with raw egg (330 yen): A gyutan meatball dish with a sauce and raw egg on top. The meatball was juicy and paired well with the sweet and savory sauce.
- Grilled yam with wasabi soy sauce (590 yen): Grilled yam with a sticky and fluffy texture, served with a refreshing wasabi soy sauce.
- Tenpu Junmai Ginjo sake from Kagoshima (850 yen): A dry sake with a fruity aroma, sweet taste, and a light finish, making it easy to drink.
- Gyutan cutlet (930 yen): Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, the gyutan cutlet was flavorful and delicious even without sauce.
- Nichinichi Yamadanishiki sake from Kyoto (960 yen): A light and slightly effervescent sake with a balanced acidity and sweetness, making it very enjoyable to drink.
- Assorted nigiri sushi (1,280 yen): A luxurious platter of gyutan, harami (skirt steak), and sirloin nigiri sushi. Each type of sushi was delicious, with the gyutan nigiri being tender and flavorful, the harami nigiri refreshing with grated daikon, and the sirloin nigiri rich and fatty.
The restaurant offers unique gyutan dishes that are all delicious. They also have options like kamameshi (rice cooked in an iron pot) and soba for finishing off your meal. They offer courses with a variety of gyutan dishes, making it a great spot for company gatherings. Since it's close to Tamachi Station, I highly recommend stopping by after work. They also have an Instagram account, so be sure to check it out. If you're interested, give them a follow!
