On the second day of the trip, we went to a restaurant where we had been turned away last time due to being fully booked. This time, we made a reservation and ordered edamame, chicken liver sashimi, burdock tempura, and fried gizzard. My friend had beer as usual, while I tried a local sake from Saga called Nabeshima since there were only Hakata Juman available. The meal started with a serving of mozuku seaweed vinegar and boiled chicken tenderloin with ponzu sauce. The dishes we ordered arrived one by one, with the burdock tempura served with mayonnaise and the fried gizzard placed on a bed of vegetables with sauce. I only tasted the dishes other than the chicken liver sashimi, and they were all quite delicious. The Nabeshima sake was slightly dry with a hint of fruitiness. Overall, we were satisfied with the meal. It was evident that reservations are necessary as a few walk-in customers were turned away while we were dining. We plan to make a reservation again for our next visit.
For dinner on the second day, we went to a Hakata restaurant as we couldn't find our first choice, Yatai Mamichan. I ordered a local sake, Hakata Juman, while my friend had beer. Since there were no noodle dishes available, we decided to have some snacks here and then head to a ramen shop for a proper meal. We ordered assorted sashimi and grilled chicken, two servings each. The meal started with drinks and two appetizers: boiled and seasoned chicken and potato salad. My friend had the chicken, and I had the potato salad. The Hakata Juman sake was medium-bodied. The potato salad, typical of a yakitori restaurant, with chicken and boiled eggs, was quite tasty. Next, the assorted sashimi arrived, but I passed it to my friend as I prefer my chicken fully cooked. Finally, the grilled chicken assortment arrived, which we cooked ourselves on a charcoal grill. We chose the teriyaki option and enjoyed chicken thigh, tenderloin, gizzard, breast, heart, harami, and leek. I only had a small taste of heart, tenderloin, thigh, and leek as I was saving room for the ramen. The flavors were excellent, but I felt that the experience would have been more enjoyable with a larger group. If given the chance, I would like to return with more people next time.
