After visiting a shrine to fulfill a family obligation, I decided to take a break at a cafe nearby. The cafe was simple and had a modern feel to it. I ordered a Cafe au Lait and noticed that it was a smoking-permitted establishment. The coffee was milky but strong, and the atmosphere was enhanced by the unique table design. I looked into the history of the cafe and learned about its connection to a horse carriage company from the past. Overall, it was a pleasant break from the hot weather.

Located on the back street of Suitengu Shrine, this area is home to one of the longstanding coffee shops, Sennrikken. Despite its small size, this cafe has a rich history as the sister store of the Milk Hall "Sennrikken" from the early Taisho era. The coffee here lives up to its name with a light bitterness, deep richness, and a soft sweetness. It's the perfect place to have conversations you can't have at work. I recently tried their Yakisand, a simple yet delicious open sandwich with thin slices of ham or sauerkraut and pickles mixed with mayonnaise, all lightly grilled and topped with Worcestershire sauce. The combination of flavors and textures is unexpectedly delightful. In addition, I admired the display of bananas by the window, reminiscent of a scene that a talented poet like Minako Sasaki from the radio show "Dareka to Dokoka de" would capture in a poignant poem.

There was a job near Suitengu-mae, and I wanted to have tea somewhere, but there was nothing around, not even a chain store. In the midst of this, I found a place that I didn't know if it was open or not. When I peeked inside, I saw an old man engrossed in a newspaper. There were no other customers. It felt very relaxed. The table was scattered with newspapers, which was amusing. I was a bit hungry, so I ordered a set of mini hot dogs and coffee for 500 yen. The mini hot dogs looked like they could be eaten in two bites! I accidentally spilled some coffee, but the old man noticed right away and took care of it! Thank you. If this place was nearby, I would definitely come by often. A lone lady came in and was handed what looked like a lunchbox and relaxed. The neighborhood vibe was strong! Thank you for the meal.

First visit in August 2021 (No.2953). I visited this cafe to kill time before the lunch opening hours while gathering material in the Ningyocho area. There was another cafe nearby, and I was debating between the two, but I chose this one because it seemed like a place where smoking was allowed (lol). I arrived around 09:45 on a weekday and there was only one other customer. The middle-aged master was running the cafe alone. They had shaved ice on the menu due to the season, but since it was before lunch, I ordered an iced coffee for 350 yen. It seemed like it was premade as it arrived in just 2-3 minutes. It was a normal iced coffee for the price, but it's a good place for smokers since smoking is allowed in the cafe. Thank you for the meal.

I found a charming café called "Senriken" while exploring the area behind the Royal Park Hotel at Senkenken Suitengu Shrine. It seems to be run by an elderly couple and offers a menu reminiscent of Showa era cafés, including coffee, iced coffee, tea, cocoa, cream soda, buttered toast, sandwiches, and hot dogs. The atmosphere is cozy with tables made of different colored marble in a checkered pattern. The coffee, brewed from their own roasted beans, has a slightly bitter taste and is delicious. I plan to come back for lunch next time.

On June 2, 2017, I stopped by on my way back to the office after visiting "Kyusuke" for the first time. The back streets of Suitengu-mae Station were new to me. I arrived at 12:40 and there were 7 customers already there, so it was bustling. I sat at a small table for one person and ordered an iced coffee for 350 yen. Smoking was allowed, so I had to endure it. The coffee was strong and good. Considering it's a small business, the price was reasonable. I left feeling satisfied and full. Thank you for the meal.

After eating soba at Kaneko, I walked around looking for a place to have coffee. I came across this shop and decided to go in. When I entered, there were two other groups of customers. I sat at a table and ordered a blend and an iced coffee. I enjoyed my cigarette. Looking around the shop, I noticed they had bananas for 100 yen each. I really wanted to eat one, but I resisted due to my diet. The blend coffee had a mild acidity which I liked, and the white ceramic cup was nice. The owner seemed engrossed in a daytime drama on TV. It's becoming rare to find cozy individual coffee shops like this one, with chain coffee shops becoming more common. I hope this place continues to do well. As I left the shop, I regretted not having the banana.

[Location] From Suitengu Shrine intersection, head towards Hamacho Nakano Bridge intersection on Shindaihashi Street. Turn right at the first traffic light, and the shop is located on the third street on the left. [Store, Interior] The exterior seems to have a lot of history. The shop is not listed on Tabelog, so I registered it, but I wonder why? When you open the door, you enter inside like a typical household entrance. There is a kitchen in the back, with table seats on the left and right. The table seats are like a checkerboard, you could even play chess here. All seats have ashtrays. [Food] I'm not sure if they serve food. [Drinks] It's a coffee shop. I ordered a blend coffee for 350 yen. It seems like they make each cup individually. The coffee comes out soon. It's not a particularly distinctive coffee, but for this price, I have no complaints. It would be a haven for those who smoke. [Service] The service is provided by a couple. Unfortunately, when I entered the shop, the TV was showing horse racing, and the owner was watching it intently. Seems like they enjoy horse racing.
