I found a unique place to drink with my friends online. It seems to be a popular restaurant, as I was finally able to make a reservation for 5 o'clock. The restaurant looks new and the white counter is beautiful. We started with beer and appetizers. The appetizers were simmered bonito and chicken stew. Then we ordered the chef's recommended dishes. The sashimi platter was filled with rare fish like grouper, kitefish marinated in kelp, seared belt fish, and live mackerel. They were all delicious. The fried sand borer was also very fresh and delicately fried. I switched to a grapefruit sour drink, where I squeezed the ruby grapefruit myself. Then we had eggplant miso, Kyoto green onion salad, and spicy miso cucumbers. Finally, we tried their homemade red perilla sour, which was not only beautiful in color but also delicious. We ordered another round. Looking back, the fish dishes were truly outstanding. The sashimi platter and fried sand borer were the best. The restaurant's name is a joke. If you plan to visit, be sure to make a reservation. I saw many disappointed customers who came without a reservation and found the restaurant fully booked.

Tokyo, Takadanobaba, Izakaya "Mazui Sakana" is located a little off the main street of Aoyagi Waseda. Intrigued by the name "Mazui Sakana" (Bad Fish), two of us decided to give it a try. The place was bustling with salarymen, indicating its popularity. The appetizers were delicious, and the dishes were all tasty. The most popular dish, the fried horse mackerel, was tender and juicy. The tempura corn, which I don't usually eat, was excellent and was well received by my guest. The only downside was the small table size. Overall, it was a delightful dining experience.

I only managed to take a photo of the sashimi, but all the other seafood dishes were delicious too! The sashimi was fresh and I felt like I could eat endless amounts of it. Other dishes like karasumi, fried horse mackerel, sea cucumber, and leek hot pot were all delicious too! I haven't really been to Takadanobaba much, but I want to go back again!

I was drawn in by the sign advertising "bad fish" and ended up entering the restaurant. The fresh fish and seasonal dishes were incredibly delicious. I arrived around 6:30 pm and sat at the counter by myself. Soon after, reservation calls and regular customers kept coming in, and the place quickly became full. The staff were kind even to customers with children, which was heartwarming. As for the food, the marinated tilefish was firm and moist, and very tasty. And the roasted fava beans...! They had a fragrant, high-quality taste that reminded me of roasting coffee beans. I have no idea what was happening there, but everything was delicious! I bet the homemade salt that the regulars were ordering must be amazing too... I'll definitely be back for more!

It got cold and I felt like eating shirako, so I came here. The raw shirako with ponzu sauce is amazing!!!! It was so delicious that four of us ended up eating 2 plates of shirako with ponzu sauce. The grilled shirako was also excellent, and everything at this restaurant was delicious!!!! The sashimi assortment was very fresh, especially the fish caught that day was exceptional. I had never tasted such fresh and odorless fish before. I want to go back again!

About 10 days ago, my new phone stopped working, so I went to the SoftBank store in Takadanobaba to get it fixed, but the staff's response was not good and I couldn't get it resolved. On my way back home, I met my wife and we decided to try this place that we had been curious about. We started with a small draft beer cheers. Today, we had the following: "Appetizer" - lotus root stir-fry and duck liver, "Fresh oysters", "Fried eggplant in broth", "Yamamoto Junmai Ginjo fresh sake", "Lotus root-filled sweet potato tempura", "Suntory Hakushu double highball", "Man'yoji chili pepper grill", "Shirako and vegetable tempura". The taste was decent, but considering the price, it was on the tastier side. This place seems to focus on fish, but today we avoided that and chose other dishes. Overall, it was good, but not really suitable for us, an elderly couple. It would be perfect for young people or colleagues. If we have another chance, we might visit again.

This day was a work-related drinking party. Although I can't provide a detailed review, I decided to leave a record. Despite the name of the restaurant, there were rumors that it was a very delicious fish izakaya, so I visited with high expectations. We started with a toast with beer. As we ate fish dishes, we gradually switched to sake. The sake was soothing. The sashimi platter included striped jack, sea bream, yellowtail, squid, tuna, mackerel, fresh mackerel, bonito, scallop, sand lance, whale, and more. I had high hopes, but only the fresh mackerel was delicious. The other items were not particularly noteworthy. The grilled conger eel with wasabi was delicious. The oysters from Sanriku were a bit disappointing in size and thickness. The smelt tempura was average. I don't remember much else as the alcohol started to kick in. The dishes were not expensive, and the taste was not bad, but knowing places like Takamaru Sengyo in Shinjuku, where you can get more delicious seafood at a lower price, I couldn't say I was completely satisfied. The sake was delicious. So, it might be best to use this place as a drinking spot, with the fish as a side dish. It didn't meet my expectations, but I had a great time with my friends at the drinking party, so I'll consider it a good experience. Thank you for the meal.

I have been fascinated by the name of this restaurant for a long time, but I never had the opportunity to visit because it was always so busy. However, on this day, I was able to make a reservation over the phone and finally visit. The lineup of fish and sake was wonderful, and I was very satisfied with my evening drink. The only thing I couldn't enjoy was the sea urchin in the sashimi platter, which was really disappointing. Other than that, everything was truly amazing. However, I was surprised when I overheard the staff recommending the sea urchin to regular customers who arrived later. It made me think. Overall, it wasn't a very pleasant experience, but everything else was really great.

We visited the restaurant around 6 pm with a same-day reservation for 2 people. Although there were some available seats, it seemed almost fully booked with reservations. It might be difficult to get in without a reservation. We ordered sashimi platter, clam chowder, whitefish ponzu, grilled spear squid, and pickled radish. We also had beer and sake (1 cold sake and 2 hot sake). The sashimi platter was a mix of various types of fish, including mackerel, gizzard shad, and whale. It was delicious and satisfying, despite being slightly watery. The whitefish ponzu was tasty and did not have any unpleasant smell. The grilled spear squid was a great match with the sake. The restaurant had a variety of sake options at reasonable prices. There were families dining there, and the atmosphere was cozy. They also had seasonal dishes like blowfish stew, which I would like to try next time.

Luckily, two seats opened up at the counter near the entrance and I squeezed in. The counter was a bit cramped, with limited space between me and the person next to me, but I endured it due to the restaurant's popularity. I ordered the recommended tuna and simmered fish dishes. Both dishes showcased freshness and attention to detail, making "Mazui Sakana" stand out in the student-centric area of Takadanobaba. A restaurant that serves delicious appetizers usually offers delicious main dishes as well. I recommend making a reservation in advance if you're interested in trying this place out.

Located about 3 minutes from Takadanobaba, there is an izakaya called "Mazui Uo Aoyagi" which proudly claims to be "not approved by the Imperial Household Agency". Despite the name, the restaurant serves truly delicious fish. This was my second visit, and once again it was more of a pre-drinking spot, but I definitely want to come back for a proper meal someday. The menu is filled with a variety of tempting dishes, and I couldn't help but be drawn to the delicious sashimi that others were enjoying. On this day, I tried the whale yukhoe, crab salad, fried oysters, and a salad with rapeseed blossoms. The whale yukhoe had a refreshing taste similar to lean red meat after mixing the egg yolk with the sauce. The crab salad had a slightly sweet dressing but was generously filled with crab and high-quality vegetables. The fried oysters were crispy and made with large, plump oysters. Even the appetizer was of high quality, and the draft beer was delicious thanks to the well-maintained tap and glassware. The service was also excellent, and the staff worked diligently. This izakaya is truly a top-notch establishment.

A seafood izakaya in Takadanobaba with a bold name. Three friends who are on a diet decided to have a year-end party here! One of the members is Aoyagi, so I made a reservation at this place. The restaurant was quite crowded, with only reserved seats available, so it was practically full. We toasted with Japanese sake! We ordered a sashimi platter, grilled shirako, whale yukke, and oyster fry. Everything was delicious, and the Japanese sake kept flowing, with us trying about 8 different kinds. The bill came out to be in the 5000 yen range, quite reasonable!

First of all, the strong impressions from the words "bad fish" and "not for the Imperial Household Agency" were amusing. However, the food was well-prepared, with the boiled frozen tofu appetizer made carefully, and the fried horse mackerel reportedly prepared by the owner who caught and fried it. The tartar sauce was likely homemade and delicious even on its own. Although I didn't order the simmered alfonsino, seeing it served at other tables, it looked quite substantial and good. I slightly regret not ordering it... When ordering sake, you could choose the sake cup, and when ordering a fruit sour, you could choose between shochu made from sweet potatoes or barley, showing the restaurant's attention to detail. This place seems great for business entertaining or dining alone if you're in the area. I definitely want to visit again. Thank you for the meal.

I visited without a reservation and found it fully booked, but managed to get in on a second attempt before 6pm. It seems they have recently relocated from a nearby location in Takadanobaba. I ordered dishes such as the daily sashimi, Sanriku live scallop, grilled cod milt, horse mackerel fry, Nara Junmai sake, Budou Chihon Sakura sweet potato shochu, beer, and highball. The prices were not listed for the daily sashimi, but overall the dishes seemed a bit pricey. The restaurant has a cool vibe and the excellent service from the staff made the dining experience even more enjoyable. It felt like a place where students might frequent.

During the rush of business trips before the consecutive holidays, I went to Tokyo. I worked diligently and finished the second day! Only one day left! I looked up a restaurant on Tabelog that I haven't tried around here, and the name of the restaurant is quite unique, so I decided to go there. I arrived before 6:30 pm on a weekday and sat at the counter, ordering a draft beer. For snacks, I ordered the "Grilled Golden Eye Snapper" and "Corn Salad." They were considerate enough to give me a smaller portion suitable for one person! As I snacked on the beef or pork cartilage and kimpira that came as a complimentary dish, the corn salad arrived. The corn was cut into stick-like slices and the flavor was rich and delicious! Yummy! And the fish dish! It was just delicious as expected! Delicious fish, but they should really change the restaurant name!

I went with my colleague. The pricing at Takadanobaba was a bit high, but all the dishes were well-prepared and delicious. They all looked so delicious that I forgot to take photos. That's how good it was. The food was so good that I forgot about my stomach and wallet and ended up ordering more and more. The fish was delicious, and even the mountain vegetables were tasty. Took a day off on Monday and visited with my family of three by reservation. The interior of the restaurant is clean with white wood and surprisingly spacious. We were seated in a sunken kotatsu table at the back. The appetizer was a small simmered shiitake mushroom and ankimo, both delicious. The sashimi platter had good quality tuna but small portions overall, tasty fried horse mackerel but also small, superb ponzu sauce with shirako, rare sashimi salad with saury, delicious chicken tempura but small portion, good fried eggplant with dashi. They had several rare types of sake, and if you order two servings, you get a 100 yen discount. Since the dishes were small, we ordered a second round of dishes, and the volume of the mushroom tempura was unexpectedly large. The dried mackerel hit us hard, and the red color of the Man'nenji pepper was unexpected. There was a group of older men sitting far away with one person speaking very loudly, making it hard to hear our conversation, so we left early. Overall, the food was delicious, with some dishes having generous portions. The bill came to over 13,000 yen for two adults and a toddler, which was a bit higher than expected. This was due to the 2,500 yen sashimi platter, 500 yen appetizer, and a mysterious 100 yen service charge including the child. Considering the quality, it was understandable. Thank you for the meal.

Matsutake mushrooms, sweetfish, deep-fried anglerfish, and cod milt are still available in early August, which is quite early! This izakaya offers high-quality ingredients with good value for money. We were a group of four, enjoyed plenty of drinks, and spent just under 20,000 yen.
