OLDHIROBO
Today's lunch was at "Echigoya" in Shinbashi. The restaurant is located on the left side of the T-junction where the Shinbashi Station front Karasumori exit meets Shinbashi Nishiguchi Street. I had never been here before, but I felt like having fish. I arrived at 11:44 AM. The white smoke from the charcoal grill by the entrance was billowing out. As I was looking at the menu next to the entrance, I was greeted with "Irasshaimase" from inside, and when I tried to enter, they informed me that it's pre-payment only. I went back outside, looked at the menu, and chose the mackerel lunch set. They have 20 types of grilled fish lunch sets, as well as 6 chicken, pork, and beef options, ranging from 680 yen to 1,000 yen. The mackerel lunch set I ordered, "Saba no bunka-boshi teishoku," was 750 yen. It's a budget-friendly place for salarymen. When I placed my order, they handed me a shogi piece, which was a gold general with the number 10 on the back. There were three tables for six people, one for two, and one for four, totaling about 24 seats, with almost half of them occupied. They told me to sit at any available seat, so I chose the one closest to the entrance. The mackerel bunka-boshi was ready in about 6 minutes. It came on a tray with rice, miso soup, pickles, and grated daikon. The mackerel had a nice charred skin from the charcoal grill, which looked delicious. It had a good texture and was firm, unlike raw mackerel. It tasted as good as it looked, making me drool. I couldn't resist taking a photo before digging in. The rice portion was not as big as at other places offering large servings, but the miso soup was hot and generous. I was completely satisfied with the taste and portion size. To be able to have charcoal-grilled fish in a lunch set at this price is amazing. I regret not coming here sooner. The smell of smoke on my clothes and coat was a bit bothersome, but it wasn't too bad this time. I highly recommend this place to fish and charcoal-grill lovers.
