First visit in 202101 (No.2316) On the day of my visit, I couldn't find enough topics for the day, so I will supplement them here! This is a brand of "Yamawa Food Co., Ltd.," established in 1966 (Showa 41), which manufactures and sells rice balls, bento boxes, sushi, etc. at department stores and other locations. They have stores in over a hundred department stores, shopping centers, station buildings, etc., but I have never visited any of their brands... (>_<) They have the usual items, but their selection is more unique and interesting than a regular rice ball shop (lol). From their sales lineup, I purchased the following items: Spam - 216 yen ○ Thickly sliced Spam with a satisfying volume. Edamame and salted kelp - 216 yen ○ A unique combination of ingredients that I tried for the first time and found delicious. Their unique selection makes me want to purchase again if I have the chance (^_-) Thank you for the meal.

I have been trying out various types of onigiri and finally found my favorite. This one is a bit small and has a gentle flavor with mixed rice and kelp. It's really delicious and a unique taste. I enjoyed a slow lunch with this. Thank you for the meal!

I wanted to move from Tokyo Maru Building to Nihonbashi and watch a movie at TOHO Cinemas, but it was too crowded and only front seats were available, so I gave up. I bought 5 rice balls for 1,025 yen at the onigiri shop in Mitsukoshi to have a late-night snack, and enjoyed fried chicken, soy sauce marinated roe, salmon, sea lettuce, and red rice rice balls at home. Among them, I think the red rice and fried chicken are delicious.

The onigiri boom series. Let's buy something for dinner. Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi has a few temporary bakeries set up, so I tend to buy from there, but today it's rice! I made too much miso soup that doesn't seem to be decreasing, so I guess I'll have it with bread as well. Pickles, thinly sliced greens, ah, the perfect amount of soaking. Not a strong statement for pickles, but it has an adult taste. Spam, with a thin layer of mayonnaise, but I think it got absorbed by the spam. It has a good amount of saltiness and goes well with white rice. If you're someone who can eat it with a hot dog, it's good. There are many unique onigiri options, which makes it enjoyable.

This is a specialty onigiri shop located on the basement floor of Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi. "Sharemusubi" provides sophisticated and fashionable onigiri made with the best quality ingredients such as Niigata Koshihikari rice, Okinawa sea salt, and locally sourced nori. As a fan of onigiri, I was always intrigued whenever I visited Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi, but never had the chance to try it until now. I usually ended up buying bento boxes from places like Imahan, Shiretoko Sushi, Oomase, or Miyabi. This time, I happened to buy kushiage from the main store of "Osaka Kushiyoshi," so I also bought their "Shio Musubi." The onigiri was priced at 152 yen and while it was not bad, it was not as exceptional as I had hoped in terms of rice texture, shaping, and saltiness. They offer a variety of ingredients, making it a convenient option for those looking for different types of onigiri.

Before heading to Tokyo Station, I stopped by at Mitsukoshi in Nihonbashi to buy some bread. What caught my eye was a specialty onigiri (rice ball) shop called Sharemusubi. Despite the upscale department store setting, onigiri seemed like an odd fit, but the display of onigiri featured standard options like plum, salmon, cod roe, and kelp, as well as more unique ones like shiso pickled vegetables, spam, and edamame. As a big fan of onigiri, I usually stick to convenience store options, but I decided to try the department store onigiri this time. After browsing the showcase, I chose a mixed rice onigiri, a salmon soy sauce onigiri, and a plain salt onigiri. Although I hesitated before making the purchase, the flavors seemed predictable. I enjoyed the onigiri while sipping on a canned highball on the Shinkansen, using smoked salmon salad as a side dish. I prefer warm onigiri, so I was a bit disappointed by the slight chill, but the deliciousness of the rice still came through. If you ever find yourself in Mitsukoshi's basement, consider stopping by Sharemusubi and trying out the variety of onigiri options available. It was a delicious meal, thank you.

Mitsukoshi's underground area probably has the only onigiri shop. While there are many deli shops and stores selling bento boxes, there are not many places that sell onigiri. The bento boxes often have items that kids may not like, so buying onigiri here is a good option. They use good quality rice and cook it perfectly. My child finished the onigiri in no time. This is what makes it truly delicious.

I had a delicious meal here last time, so I came back today. The rice was a bit firm this time. The shiso wakame had a light flavor and was delicious with shiso seeds in it. I might end up buying it again when I come back. Thank you for the meal!

I got the Necco bento I was looking for at the Tamagami store in Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store, and then I spotted the rice balls lined up at the nearby "Sharemusubi" rice ball shop. The rice ball that caught my eye was the "Pickled Vegetable Rice Ball" for 194 yen (tax included). It's a rice ball wrapped in pickled greens. I remembered how delicious the "Mehari Sushi" I had when I traveled to Wakayama last year was, so I decided to try it. It's supposed to be the same principle, but it's not quite the same as Mehari Sushi. It was still delicious though (haha).

It was still before 1 o'clock, but there was a time sale where the pack of 4 rice balls for 525 yen was discounted by 100 yen, so I bought it. It included small rice balls in four flavors (salmon, yukari seasoning, shiso leaf, salt), along with side dishes such as chikuwa tempura, tamagoyaki, wiener sausage, pickled daikon radish, meatballs, and potato croquette. It was mostly meat-based and lacked vegetables, so it was quite nutritionally imbalanced, but taste-wise it was neither good nor bad. Well, I guess it's okay once in a while.

"Slightly stylish rice ball bento (fried chicken) from Uonuma, updated on 7/10. The rice ball filling is salmon and kelp. The Uonuma-grown rice remains fluffy and fragrant even when cold! The carefully selected ingredients for the filling create a delicious synergy with the rice ball. With a variety of side dishes, you can enjoy more rice. The average price for one rice ball is around 150 yen, making the bento a great deal!
Stylish rice ball bento (grilled mackerel with Kyoto miso) from Uonuma. This popular rice ball shop is located in Nihonbashi and Ginza at Mitsukoshi. The rice balls are made with red salmon and kelp. The side dishes include grilled mackerel with Kyoto miso, lotus root tempura, sautéed burdock and hijiki seaweed, nanohana ohitashi, and pickled daikon. As expected from a rice ball shop, the rice balls are excellent. The mention of Uonuma indicates the use of Uonuma-grown rice, perhaps? The fillings for the rice balls are also carefully selected and delicious. Today, as soon as I arrived at the store, a wonderful husky-voiced gentleman announced, 'All bento boxes from now on, starting at 420 yen.' It was just past 12 o'clock... Whether it was due to slow customer traffic or the gentleman's whim is unclear, but you appeared as an angel to me. Thank you. With a discount of 105 yen, the total was 420 yen including tax. Thank you for the meal."

I visited the art gallery at Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi Main Store, where they had a special exhibition featuring Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Takashi Fujita, and Hamada Shoji Folk Art all at once. It was a great way to nourish my soul, so I stopped by on my way back. On the first floor, I also saw an exhibition of art by disabled artists, including works by Heraboni. I didn't have much time, so I bought some onigiri for my walking lunch break. It was the third shop I visited, as it seemed quite popular. I bought two onigiri, one with Hiroshima greens and salmon, and the other with beef and rice. The prices were a bit high for onigiri, especially with tax added, but I assume it's because of the quality of the ingredients. I was not familiar with Hiroshima greens before, but I learned that they are one of Japan's three major pickled vegetables, along with takana and nozawana. Both onigiri were lightly seasoned, allowing the flavors of the ingredients to shine through. The rice was a bit firm, which I personally enjoy. Mitsukoshi and Takashimaya department stores have always been reliable for me. Thank you for the delicious onigiri today as well.

I bought plenty of red salmon and three kinds of mushroom rice balls for 577 yen including 8% consumption tax. It's a bit pricey, but the rice balls are plump and delicious even when cold. Better cost performance than a certain tempura rice bowl. Thank you for the meal.

I received Spam and mentaiko soy sauce! Spam is a classic, but it tastes even better with good rice and seaweed. The saltiness and a little bit of mayonnaise go well together. As for the mentaiko soy sauce, the unexpected bonito flavor was quite strong. Balancing the mentaiko and bonito flavors is key to making it delicious.
