I have been relying on this shop for over 20 years. I took some photos after a long time. It cost about ¥7000 for everything on this day. The quality and quantity were both excellent. I ordered a small amount this time, but it was enough for drinking. There are some rare items like dried sea cucumber, and I admire the craftsmanship of each dish. As I have also grown older, I feel nostalgic in various ways.

First time in Fukuoka‼️ I definitely didn't want to go to a disappointing restaurant, so I chose a place recommended by someone I know who said it was delicious. There is no menu, the chef serves dishes according to how hungry you are. The service by the staff was a bit disappointing, with one forgetting drink orders and not bringing water when asked. However, the chef explained each dish well and brought drinks promptly when asked. The food was really delicious! The sesame mackerel was different from what I had in Tokyo, very fresh and tasty‼️ Despite the disappointing staff, the chef's amazing dishes made it a memorable experience. We started with beer and then tried Fukuoka's local sake and sweet potato shochu. There were many types of shochu, especially sweet potato varieties. Overall, I was very satisfied. Thank you for the meal.

I visited a restaurant after being invited by a university junior I hadn't seen in 10 years. It was past 7 pm on a Friday night, and we didn't have a reservation, but we were able to get a table. The drink menu was well-written, and the food was served until we said stop based on our stomach condition. Each dish had a special touch and was delicious. I think the pickled sea cucumber and seared fatty tuna are their specialties. The sesame mackerel was also top-notch. However, the prices were a secret, and we couldn't tell what we were being charged for, so it felt like the restaurant was selective with its customers. If you become a regular customer, you might receive special service. This type of restaurant may divide opinions on service preferences.

On this day, I was invited by an acquaintance to visit this restaurant for the first time. When I entered the restaurant and was seated at a table, I noticed there was no menu for food. I asked why, and was told that the dishes are all "chef's choice". My acquaintance said they should have mentioned that when making the reservation. The dishes included small appetizers, vinegar marinated raw fish, salad, seared tuna, and sashimi with fermented soybeans... all delicious, but I wish I could have tried a greater variety of dishes. The drink orders were also slow to arrive. And I wasn't quite sure about the total amount for the bill. It's a bit of a shame, really.

I visited this shop based on the talk that the fish is delicious. There is only one woman in charge of the floor and she is not able to handle it completely. It took more than 10 minutes from entering the shop to the first beer being served. Even when I tried to order, she kept saying "please wait a moment" and didn't come to take the order. Meanwhile, what seemed to be the manager was chatting with regular customers. By the time I finished my first beer, she finally came to take the order saying "sorry for the delay". The dishes are delicious one by one (nothing special), but the service... The staff on the floor is doing their best, but maybe they are just too short-staffed. It's a shame.

Located in Nishi Nakasu, this izakaya in Fukuoka offers a variety of fresh seafood and meat dishes, as well as local specialties like Chikuzen-ni, mentaiko, and hot pot. The restaurant has many semi-private rooms, making it great for small group dining. I always order the sashimi platter, which is a must-try. The drink selection is also extensive, and I always end up trying a variety of drinks. Thank you for the delicious meal.

On the first floor of the Fujikura dining building in Nishi Nakasu. I was concerned about the varying reviews, but since there were many recommendations for Fukuoka seafood overall, I decided to visit. On a Sunday at 6pm in the first half of Golden Week, I arrived without a reservation and was a bit worried, but at that time there were no other customers. While enjoying a beer, I chatted with the Asian staff and chose my menu. The portions are said to be generous. The appetizer was a mixed vegetable dish with plenty of udo flowers, with a bouncy texture similar to mentaiko. The small dish was quite satisfying. Today, I felt like drinking, so I finished my beer and then ordered some sake. I tried to order a local sake from the menu, but they seemed to be out of stock of many items... In the end, I ordered Fukuoka's Jugenmu, a super spicy raw sake. The first dish was thinly sliced Namako sea cucumber with a refreshing condiment base of grated daikon. The crispy sea cucumber paired well with the refreshing sauce. Next, the Tamba natto salad arrived, made with Tamba natto. The dish came with grilled seaweed and shiso on a separate plate, to be eaten by wrapping. However, after eating the natto in the first half, my mouth was... I ordered it based on the recommendation after ordering sake, but it may be necessary to be more flexible in recommending dishes based on the customer's situation. Also, the portion size is quite large, so you can feel full with just this one dish. At this point, I understood the characteristics of this restaurant, but I think it's a bit of a stretch for 2 people to order 3-4 dishes... If they reduce the portion size a bit, the unit price might increase. Just as I was starting to turn various question marks into exclamation marks, I soon heard what sounded like the head chef or owner in the kitchen behind the scenes, probably scolding the staff with words like "What the heck are you doing?" and "You're useless." Well... it's a common sight in the culinary industry, but it's unacceptable for customers to hear such things. From that kind of relationship, it seems that the perspective shifts away from the customer's point of view. The taste is good, but I don't feel like revisiting. Thank you for the meal.

Date and time: Around midnight on a weekday Friday Reservation: 30 minutes before Crowdedness: Not crowded Order: Seared premium fatty tuna (priced around 5000 yen) Rating: It's best to eat it with plenty of wasabi. The wasabi is not spicy. The fatty tuna itself is not heavy with fat, but the wasabi nicely cuts through the fat of the tuna, making it delicious to eat.

[Overall Impression] Located right in the middle between Tenjin Minami Station (Fukuoka) and Gion Kawabata Station, this izakaya in Nishi Nakasu specializes in seafood and shochu. The title mentioning "difficult choices" comes from the fact that the sesame mackerel we had at first was outstanding, while the simmered dish was a bit lacking. The extra-large horse mackerel fry made with striped jack was delicious with its tartar sauce and salad, but the fry itself was a bit overcooked. This restaurant seems to have a significant variance in the quality of dishes, so opinions may vary depending on what you order. For this first visit, we balanced the positives and negatives, resulting in a rating of 3.5 stars. We came here seeking seafood after enjoying delicious grilled chicken at Jidoriya. The restaurant is located in a quiet corner of Nishi Nakasu with a distinctive metallic blue sign near the street. Inside, there are about 6 counter seats and 15 tables. The atmosphere is cozy with dim lighting, folk-style decor, and the soothing sound of koto music playing. The staff consists of the master at the counter, a couple of chefs in the kitchen, and a female server. The sight of numerous shochu bottles lined up on the counter is quite impressive. The menu mainly features seafood dishes, but there is also a selection of chicken and beef dishes. When in Fukuoka, you must try the sesame mackerel, as well as the local specialty gamenin (with softshell turtle) and the horse mackerel fry. For drinks, we chose Hachiman (500 yen) from the array of shochu bottles, later switching to Sakurai. - Sesame Mackerel: The mackerel is generously coated in miso sauce with plenty of chopped seaweed, green onions, and sesame. The freshness and firm texture of the mackerel are highlighted, complemented by the rich sesame miso sauce with a hint of bitterness. This dish is quite flavorful and satisfying. - Special Striped Jack Fry: The thick and large fry made with striped jack is crispy on the outside, but slightly dry inside due to being cooked too long. The accompanying salad and rich tartar sauce are unexpectedly delicious. Unfortunately, the softshell turtle simmered dish turned out to be overly salty, lacking the expected flavor of the turtle and collagen. The service was slow, and the female server seemed flustered, resulting in some dishes being canceled due to the long wait. The ice cream and persimmon served as a complimentary dessert were a nice touch, although the sesame ice cream had a slightly powdery texture and subtle flavor. In conclusion, while the initial sesame mackerel was exceptional, subsequent dishes were a bit hit or miss. The restaurant's portion sizes are generous, so missing out on a good dish can be disappointing. With a total bill of 6760 yen, we concluded our meal. Thank you for the meal.

In early autumn of 2018, it's been a while since I visited this restaurant. I always order a variety of dishes, but I think I've pretty much settled on my favorites. I sometimes order meat dishes, but this place is definitely all about the fish – their sashimi platter is the best! They say the sashimi platter takes time to prepare, so it's best to order it as soon as you arrive. The appetizer they serve, called "totsudashi," is already excellent, and I believe that a place that serves such delicious appetizers can't go wrong! There are four of us guys, so we order a lot. The menu seems to have changed a bit – there's a new item called "Tanba ae" instead of the previous "black bean natto something." We always order the sashimi platter (for 2 people) – it takes quite a while, so this time we ordered 2 portions for the 4 of us, and it was just right. The assortment of colorful fish is so delicious! Of course, there's also sanma (Pacific saury) for the season, and even uni from Karatsu, which is not shown in the photos, but it's also really tasty. The "aji furai" (horse mackerel fry) is also amazing with its thick cut – I want to order it every time! The "tako shinjo" (octopus shinjo) is also wonderfully flavorful. This place really shines when it comes to fish dishes. It gets crowded and you might have to wait a long time, so be sure to order early – sometimes you have to wait up to an hour for the sashimi platter. Now, let's see if I can make a reservation for Chouchou today.

Hello, this is Harukichi. I visited a restaurant called "Kika" in Nishinakasu. I had heard good things about this place before, so I was excited to finally go. The interior of the restaurant mainly consists of table seating and it was quite busy with reservations on the day I went. I ordered the following dishes: seared fatty tuna from Goto weighing 96kg, sesame mackerel, Tanba-style marinated fish (striped jack), tatami iwashi (dried sardines) with dried baby sardines and green onions salad, cold yuba (tofu skin) with grated daikon radish, chilled chawanmushi (savory egg custard), seared Wagyu beef, kombu (kelp) pickled mentaiko (spicy cod roe), homemade pickles, and white rice. I heard that the seafood dishes were delicious here, so I focused on ordering those. The seared fatty tuna, sesame mackerel, and Tanba-style marinated fish were indeed very tasty. The fatty tuna was cut quite thick, providing a satisfying bite. Overall, everything I tried was delicious, but the seafood dishes stood out the most. The restaurant seems capable of accommodating larger groups, and I would recommend it to those looking for a place with delicious seafood dishes to enjoy with friends. Also, they have an impressive variety of shochu (Japanese distilled spirit), which is a nice touch. That's all for now. Harukichi's Fukuoka gourmet selection.

The restaurant had a wide variety of sake available. Can you believe it? They have about 600 types of shochu and sake combined throughout the year. It's a dream come true for sake lovers. The location is in a small alley running parallel to the main street in Nishi Nakasu, and at first, it was a bit hard to find. I visited on the first Sunday of September, with a friend from Kanazawa. It's actually quite difficult to find good izakayas open on Sundays, but we finally found this one. We arrived early at 5:30 pm, and there was only one other group of customers. Because of the low number of customers, the service was very quick and efficient. The appetizers were served individually, each with a different type - "hijiki", "okara", "eggplant with grated daikon". We ordered the "Negi and Jako Salad", which had a spicy kick from the Hakata green onions. I wanted to try the Goma Saba, but they only had Goma Kanpachi that day. It had a sweet and rich sauce that paired well with the sake. We also tried the "Chicken Bone Karaage", which I didn't personally eat. Next was the "Mentaiko Hakata Age", a Satsuma-age-like dish with spicy cod roe. It was wrapped in seaweed and had a mochi-like texture. The Kinmedai salt-grilled was quite hearty and delicious. The flavor was delicate and tasty. The "Game-ni" was served in a traditional pot, with large pieces of vegetables and a rich flavor. The "Dashimaki Tamago" was delicious when freshly made. The final rice dish was the "Jako Rice", which was also very tasty. For dessert, they served black sesame and black honey sherbet. Overall, the quality of the food and sake exceeded typical izakaya standards. They use locally sourced ingredients and the flavors were satisfying. However, the prices were a bit on the higher side, more like a high-end restaurant. But the balance of taste and cost was good, and I would definitely consider coming back. Thank you for the wonderful meal. This review is based on a visit from a while back.
