In the midst of that, my drinking buddy said he wanted to eat gyoza, so we urgently decided to go to a place called something like "Emergency Situation Nanchara" around 6:30 on a weekday. We only had about 30 minutes to order alcohol. The background music was not the latest US hits, played at a slightly louder volume. By the way, I think all the restaurants with names like "Tokyo Gyoza-ken" or "Yokohama Gyoza-ken" are part of the same chain.
When I arrived, my buddy, who had arrived about 5 minutes earlier, had already ordered a medium bottle of beer for 490 yen, spicy miso tofu for 230 yen, spicy hot and sour sauce with pork intestines and celery for 450 yen, and spicy stir-fried liver and garlic chives for 630 yen. As expected from a pro buddy, he had already placed the order. The Asahi beer was quite tasty, with more richness and flavor than Super Dry. The tofu was delicious with a vinegar miso-like sauce specifically for gyoza. I love pork intestines and liver and garlic chives, so those dishes were great too.
We also ordered Hoppy white for 350 yen and seasonal menu whole oyster gyoza for 540 yen. The Hoppy was decent, with a slightly sweet taste reminiscent of Korean-style shochu. The whole oyster gyoza had a whole oyster inside and was delicious. It was already 7:00, and last orders for alcohol were announced, so we were still drinking Hoppy, but managed to get two more each to keep.
The waitress, who looked like a Continental version of Saint Four's glasses-wearing girl, was busy but attentive and had a good vibe. The alcohol was flowing, so we were safe. For the finale, we had a set of five-ingredient an-kake soba with gyoza for 930 yen. The gyoza had a pleasantly light taste typical of the "○○ Gyoza-ken" chain, and I wish they would give us 6 instead of 5. The an-kake soba was delicious with plenty of vegetables and ginger-seasoned fried pork.
Overall, the taste, service, and alcohol were all good this time. For some reason, as we walked towards Sugamo, we saw many mansions. It was a good night. Thank you for the meal.
