This time, at my father's request, we went to a restaurant called Rokki in the outskirts of Munakata City to have eel. As usual, my parents chose the steamed eel, while my partner, who doesn't like sweet rice, opted for the hitsumabushi. I love steamed eel, but I also wanted to try hitsumabushi, so I went for hitsumabushi as well. Hitsumabushi comes in three types: Hitsumabushi (super special) for 6,170 yen, Hitsumabushi (special) for 5,610 yen, and Hitsumabushi (special) for 4,620 yen. It's exciting to have hitsumabushi three ways! Hitsumabushi (special) includes hitsumabushi, sashimi, pickles, salad, chawanmushi, grilled eel liver, side dishes, pickles, and fruit, a real feast. When I opened the hitsumabushi container, at first I thought there wasn't much eel, but then I saw it was in two layers, which was a relief. Eel, minced seaweed, spicy cod roe, shiso leaf, and egg. First, I tried it as it is, served in a rice bowl. Yum, the eel is delicious! Eel and rice, a perfect combination. I could eat it all in one go. For the second bowl, I mixed it a bit. The spicy cod roe is somewhat distracting. Personally, I don't think the spicy cod roe is necessary. I prefer to eat the eel and spicy cod roe separately. For the third bowl, I enjoyed it with some dashi broth. A refined and elegant ochazuke with a gentle dashi broth. This is also good. Personally, I prefer the first bowl the most. In that case, I think I would prefer an eel rice bowl! I tried a bit of the steamed eel. Ah, the steamed eel! Delicious. Steamed eel is the best after all. Since it was a set meal, I was full. The pickles were also refreshing and tasty. I will definitely visit again. Thank you for the meal!
