Kuramae's Shuutotte restaurant. I was curious about their lunch menu featuring oyakodon, so I decided to try it for the first time. I used PayPay for a 20% discount. Currently, they offer either oyakodon for 900 yen or seafood don for 1000 yen for lunch. The price difference makes the seafood don seem like a better deal, but I recently had delicious sashimi at a seafood specialty store nearby. Therefore, I chose the oyakodon. I opted for the free extra-large rice and added a salad for 100 yen, making it exactly 1000 yen. The restaurant is not very spacious, but it was quite crowded during lunchtime with many regular customers. The oyakodon took a while to prepare due to the orders stacking up. I was lucky with the timing, but the person after me seemed to have to wait quite a bit. First, the salad arrived. It was a decent salad with potato salad for 100 yen. The pickles were pickled radish and salted kelp, which were okay. I prefer pickles like cucumber or Chinese cabbage. Next, the oyakodon and miso soup were served. The oyakodon had a generous serving, especially with the extra rice. However, the extra rice might have been a mistake. The sauce of this oyakodon was more on the light side with a strong dashi flavor, not the typical soy sauce and mirin-based sauce. It consisted of onions, chicken, and mitsuba, and the chicken was labeled as domestically raised, but it was just average. Without the side dish and salad, 900 yen for this oyakodon might be a bit pricey. I don't usually eat oyakodon when dining out, but recently I had oyakodon at a famous eel restaurant called Kawazuyu, and it was a completely different level, something you can't make at home. This oyakodon at Shuutotte was more like a standard izakaya lunch dish. They also serve Spanish cuisine at night, so maybe oyakodon is not their specialty. Perhaps they should lower the expectations on the outside sign. Additionally, I realized that the restaurant allows smoking at all tables during lunchtime. A group of customers who came in later started smoking after ordering, and it became quite smoky. For smokers who have fewer and fewer places to smoke, this might be an oasis.
