It's a Tuesday afternoon on a public holiday. I decided to stop by a yakisoba restaurant in Kami-Kitazawa for a late breakfast, so I got off at Shimotakaido Station and took a stroll around the area. It's been about forty years since I moved to Tokyo, but this is my first time exploring this neighborhood. There seems to be a shopping street, but it's not as bustling as I expected. After about half an hour of exploring and digesting the yakisoba, I stumbled upon this sushi restaurant near the level crossing. It's called "Asahi Sushi Main Store," and it seems to be the flagship store among the outlets in station buildings and department store food courts. The entrance was lined with signs for reserved customers, giving it a school trip accommodation vibe. Inside, I requested the chef's choice set. It included fatty tuna, medium fatty tuna, kanpachi, flounder, horse mackerel, scallop, sweet shrimp, salmon roe, eel, egg, medium fatty tuna roll, and dried gourd roll, with miso soup with clams on the side. They didn't brush soy sauce on the sushi, but provided a small dish of Yamasa soy sauce on the table for dipping. The sushi rice was the typical white vinegar type found in local sushi restaurants, but the quality of the fish surpassed those of regular places. The cost performance was reasonable, and if it were closer, I'd want to visit once a month. Overall, it was a satisfying meal.
