Today I went to Bistro Kitchen Fumi in Soshigaya-Okura. Despite the name sounding like a Western-style restaurant, they serve authentic bistro-style French cuisine and a wide variety of wines. Even though they usually have waitstaff, when I visited they were operating with just one person but managed to provide excellent service and food without any issues. I ordered the recommended charcuterie platter, oil sardines, Fumi-style fried chicken with pickles, a unique lamb hamburger, and baked cheese risotto. The wine list is extensive, with many options available by the glass, making it enjoyable for small groups. The prices are very reasonable, with wines by the glass ranging from 500 to 750 yen. The bottle selection is also impressive, featuring wines from various countries, making it a great choice for larger groups. The food was delicious, with most of the charcuterie being homemade and offered in a platter for around 1000 yen, which I found to be a great value. The sardines, lamb steak, and fried chicken were all tasty, with a unique flavor profile in the fried chicken thanks to the spices used. The risotto was just the right portion size and flavor, making it a satisfying dining experience in Soshigaya-Okura. The only improvement I would suggest is that the glass wines were slightly too cold, but overall, it was a fantastic dining experience.

It's been a while! Mushroom Warm Salad (780 yen) sautéed mushrooms on sunny lettuce. It felt like wrapping the lettuce around the mushrooms and it was gone in an instant. Seared Mackerel Marinade (980 yen) a large half of mackerel marinated rare and seared on the skin. Just the right amount of fat. Easy to eat as most of the bones have been removed. Kitchen Fumi Style Fried Chicken Thigh (780 yen) spicy fried chicken. Normally served with bones, but we asked for it to be cut. The taste makes you crave a refreshing wine. Grilled Squid with Liver Butter Sauce (1580 yen) a famous grilled squid! The squid was quite large that day, so there was plenty of liver butter sauce. We enjoyed dipping radish and squid alternately in the sauce. Baked Cheese Risotto (680 yen) Oyster Spaghetti (1480 yen) We ended with a double feature! The classic cheese risotto and spaghetti with oysters that change depending on the season. We enjoyed the seasonal oysters with a lightly sweet flavor. Thank you for the meal!

The shop owner seemed unfriendly at first, but they were actually polite and attentive. The food was delicious and worth the price. It's great for slowly enjoying while drinking. The presence of a counter makes it easy for solo diners to visit.

It somehow felt like dining out, so I casually went to fumi. I ordered duck breast ham (440 yen) and oregano-flavored chicken breast ham (440 yen), choosing lean cuts. The pepper-seasoned duck and oregano-flavored chicken were refreshing as expected. Tuna with shiso mayo (800 yen) and Isaki fish ajillo (620 yen) were served. The mayo was light, giving a refreshing taste to the tuna. The ajillo had just the right amount of anchovy saltiness, with less oil. Beef harami steak (1520 yen) had a chewy texture with rich flavor that intensified with each bite. Adding a little rock salt made it even better. Lemon penne with various minced meats (1380 yen) was the usual pasta to finish. The lemon penne was kid-friendly with a generous amount of minced beef, pork, and more. I hope they continue to do their best despite the challenges posed by the pandemic!

Since the end of the coronavirus self-restraint, I have been revisiting the shops I have been to before. I want to check if the good shops I haven't been able to visit for a while are doing well and show my support. Luckily, this one was doing well. Although almost full, there were a couple of seats available at the counter, making it an ideal situation for dropping by without a reservation. I started with a bottle of sparkling wine as I was with a friend who loves to drink. It was light and very delicious. They have affordable and tasty wines here, so it's a great place to go with someone who enjoys drinking. Of course, the food is also delicious! The pate de campagne is rich and just to my liking. The grilled squid liver butter is a must-try. When you eat it with the rich sauce, the wine just keeps flowing! The hot shrimp ajillo is delicious too! The braised pork is also tender. This place seems perfect for just going to eat without drinking.

Emergency declaration has been lifted, and things have started to calm down a bit at Fumi! Lamb red wine stew (1580 yen) was cooked to perfection, leaving just the right amount of lamb flavor and was so tender that it could be easily pulled apart with chopsticks. Served with turnips and brown mushrooms, the sauce left over paired wonderfully with bread. Grilled whole squid with liver butter sauce (1280 yen) is a must-try dish at Fumi. The squid liver butter sauce is irresistible. Baked cheese risotto (680 yen) is also a classic way to end the meal. It's best shared among 2-4 people, with each person having 1-2 bites. Vongole Bianco spaghetti (1380 yen) is an occasional item on the menu. If requested, it may be available even if not listed. A seafood pasta with plenty of clams. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal at Fumi after a long time!

It was my first time in months at Fumi. Due to the restrictions like shortened business hours, I couldn't visit for a while. I had a Caesar salad with lettuce only (420 yen), marinated hiramasa and carrots (700 yen), and seared mackerel marinade (800 yen). These three starters were fantastic. I also ordered a large portion of fried potatoes (600 yen), grilled whole squid with liver butter sauce (980 yen), and chicken cheese cutlet (860 yen). The grilled whole squid is already a signature dish at Fumi, and I always order it. The chicken cheese cutlet was a new item for me, with tender chicken breast topped with cheese and crispy coating. I also tried a pasta dish not on the menu, made with a generous amount of clams and Genovese sauce, which was mild enough for kids to enjoy. It was a perfect way to finish the meal. I really enjoyed my long-awaited visit to Fumi.

I visited the restaurant after a long time and found that they had introduced new menu items. The restaurant now closes at 8 pm, so you need to enter by 6 pm. They have a meat dish assortment with fried potatoes (large for 550 yen) as a start, which includes a new menu item called hamburger and cabbage cake salad. This assortment is perfect as a snack with wine, be it white, red, or sparkling. The potatoes are for kids. They also have seared mackerel marinated (680 yen) and seafood meatball gratin (580 yen), both new menu items. The mackerel marinated was unexpectedly large and delicious. The seafood meatball gratin was enjoyed by both kids and adults. They also offer olive chicken nuggets with a seedless olive inside (480 yen) and a tomato cream penne with snow crab (1200 yen) for the finale, both new menu items as well. Despite the shortened operating hours and the high hurdle of entering between 5 to 6 pm, most of the menu items are available for takeout, so you can try ordering by phone.

The family visited separately, but it had been a while for me! I always order the assorted meat dishes set - beef, pork, chicken, and duck! I enjoyed it with some bubbles. The taste was consistently delicious. You can also order each meat dish individually, but I recommend the assorted set. I ordered a large portion of fried potatoes for the kids as usual (550 yen). The Oyster Ajillo (620 yen) was made with oysters, bean sprouts, and potatoes. It had about 10 oysters in it, which provided a satisfying and delicious meal. I want to become a man who can make Ajillo at home! The Ezo deer hamburger (1280 yen) was a rare game meat hamburger. It was easy to eat with no strange smell, and it was light with little fat. It was delicious on its own or with mustard. The accompanying vegetables were also tasty. The clam and turnip peperoncino spaghetti (1200 yen) was ordered without chili for sharing with the kids. The pasta was soaked in a large amount of clam broth along with turnips. The kids couldn't stop eating it. If it's a regular menu item, it might become a staple when ordering pasta. Despite being short-staffed, they efficiently served all customers. Dinner with one staff member is truly amazing!

One of the restaurants that can be enjoyed even during the COVID-19 pandemic! Please note that the business hours have been shortened due to the request for self-restraint. Assorted meat side dishes (serves 3 people) The classic assortment. Always a great way to start! I prefer chicken ham and duck meat. Steamed clams and winter melon in white wine (720 yen) The photo may show a portion for two. All the clams were fresh and none were closed shut. The clams are plentiful and once you start eating, you can't stop because of how delicious they are! Grilled whole squid with liver butter sauce (780 yen) A favorite at fumi's. I order this about 1 to 1.5 times every visit. The liver butter sauce overflowing from the squid is amazing. It's delicious whether you dip the squid in it or bread. Octopus and sprout cabbage ajillo for 2 people (720 yen for 1 portion) The photo shows two portions. Soft octopus and sweet sprout cabbage in ajillo. It comes with bread to soak in the oil until it's empty. Steamed pork shoulder with cabbage (1180 yen) I saw this for the first time and immediately ordered it. The slightly rare steamed pork and the sweetness brought out in the cabbage were incredibly delicious. It's a must-order item that I want to get every time. Highly recommended. Custom pasta (? yen) A child-friendly, sweetened, pepper-free spaghetti made with okra, onions, daikon, and minced meat. This was also delicious. Had a wonderful time! Thank you very much.

I used takeout a few times, but this time I dined in the restaurant after a long time. The meat appetizer platter (for 4 people) was almost all meat specialties! Ham and rillettes of beef, pork, duck, horse, etc. All homemade. I can't help but order this platter every time. Homemade oil sardines (580 yen) are not canned, so they are larger in size. If you like sardines, be sure to try them as they might be seasonal. Blanc Gas beef harami steak (1280 yen) is a lean and flavorful cut of meat with a good texture. It has less fat, so you can taste the meat's flavor directly. Salad with just lettuce and Caesar dressing! (380 yen) French fries large (550 yen) I'm eating salad too (laughs). The fries are for kids! Lemon cream penne with various minced meats, large serving (1200 yen + extra) You can get a large serving to match the number of people! Plenty of meat, plenty of lemon. Creamy and mellow, with a sharp touch from black pepper. Enjoyed it with some drinks! Looking forward to the next visit.

Due to the impact of the coronavirus, more and more restaurants are adopting a takeout strategy. fumi is one of them, and I decided to give it a try. We ordered a mixed appetizer plate (serves 3) and lemon cream penne with various minced meats (1200 yen). I also ordered some other dishes, but I only took photos of these two. Our dinner at home was significantly upgraded (lol). It might be nice to occasionally order takeout. Just 1 or 2 dishes can make a big difference. Highly recommended for those who are avoiding going out!

Three months have passed without me realizing it... I didn't avoid eating out, it just happened that way. Clam and vegetable white wine steamed dish (790 yen): Clams and seasonal vegetables steamed in white wine, simply delicious. Even dipping bread in the soup is delicious. Leek gratin soup (420 yen): A simplified version of a Western-style onion gratin soup with plenty of leeks. The sweetness of the leeks is maximized and it's delicious. Crispy grilled curry-marinated sardines (580 yen): The sardines are huge! They have a satisfying texture, and the curry flavor makes it appealing to everyone. It was my first time trying it, but it's definitely delicious enough to order again. Chicken breast cutlet (980 yen): Crispy thin coating and moist chicken breast. Both sauces are good! It would be amazing if I could make this at home. Carbonara with homemade bacon: I asked for deer bacon instead of regular bacon. They are flexible with substitutions like this, so it's worth asking. I ordered a variety of dishes I hadn't tried before. I'll make sure not to wait so long before visiting again!

I went straight from Christmas to this restaurant without a break. On this day, I ordered something light. The assorted appetizers are a must-order. It includes ham from beef, horse, chicken, and duck, and even horse ham! It was a lineup that I wanted to enjoy with sparkling wine or white wine. The extra-large grilled squid with liver butter sauce (1580 yen) was the largest grilled squid I have ever seen. It was so big that it almost overflowed from the plate, enough for about 4 people. There was also a lot of liver, and it was covered in sauce (laughs). It's a classic dish that can be called a Fumi specialty. The Kitchen Fumi-style deep-fried chicken thigh with bones (630 yen) is the best value for money. It's surprising that you get this size for 630 yen. It's fried in lard, so it's fragrant and delicious. The surface is crispy, and the meat is tender. Looking forward to 2020!

I missed out on it last year, but I succeeded in my one-year revenge! By the way, it is reservation-only and takeout only. The special roasted herb chicken whole chicken (1650 yen) was cooked moist and tender, and was filled with potatoes inside. We enjoyed the drumstick, wings, and body, each one cleanly. It was just the right amount for two people, with the skin fat dropping moderately, making it very delicious! A message card was included, adding to the Christmas feeling. Next year, I would like to order several bone-in chicken drumsticks (1 for 700 yen)!

It was a long time since I visited Fumi. I sat at the usual table by the window! The appetizer assortment included olive pork loin ham, white liver mousse, beef thigh meat prosciutto, spicy duck ham, and oregano-flavored chicken breast ham. You should definitely order this assortment, as it is a must-have. Anchovy-stuffed fried olives (300 yen) are a great wine snack. Grilled whole squid with liver butter sauce (730 yen) and Kitchen Fumi-style bone-in chicken thigh Karaage (630 yen) are Fumi's signature dishes. If it's your first visit, you must order them. For subsequent visits, you can try other menu items. The homemade bacon carbonara spaghetti (1200 yen) was just right with a good amount of homemade bacon and plenty of egg yolk. The children couldn't stop eating it. The baked cheese risotto (540 yen) with blue cheese topping (100 yen) was so delicious with the blue cheese topping that I couldn't resist ordering it. Eat it right away while it's piping hot for the best taste. Once again, I had a wonderful evening. I want to visit at least once a month!

I visit this restaurant almost every month. If you're ever unsure about what to have for dinner, you can't go wrong with Fumi. Grilled whole squid with liver butter sauce (780 yen) is a must-order dish. If you love squid liver, this is a 100% must-try item. Kitchen Fumi's crispy fried chicken thigh (680 yen) is unbelievably good for the price. The large piece of thigh meat is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, and incredibly delicious. It's easy to share with 3-4 people. Baked cheese risotto (580 yen) with blue cheese topping (100 yen) was a new try for me, and it was even better than the regular version. If you're not a fan of blue cheese, this may not be for you, but the flavor is not too strong. I will definitely be coming back next month for more delicious dishes!

Finally, we celebrated our 1st anniversary! Congratulations! To commemorate our 1st anniversary, we offered a special promotion of all-you-can-eat roast beef for 1000 yen. Well, you just have to go for it, right? The roast beef comes with three sauces: gravy, mustard, and wasabi soy sauce. The roast beef had a ham-like finish, and I must have gone for seconds about 5-6 times! We also enjoyed the marinated sashimi-style isaki and two-color carrot salad, grilled whole squid with liver butter sauce, large fried potatoes, baked cheese risotto, Ezo deer meat carbonara spaghetti, and lemon cream penne with various ground meats. The baked cheese risotto is a popular choice among customers. It's amazing how the restaurant has gained popularity in less than a year. This is how history is built up, right?

I slid into a vacant table just in time! It was fully booked, but luckily I got a spot. Appetizer assortment (price unknown) This assortment is the best, isn't it!? It includes white liver mousse, olive pork rillette, beef thigh meat prosciutto, country-style pate, oregano-flavored chicken breast ham, and spicy duck breast ham. It's great as a meal and also perfect as a snack with drinks. If you want to try a variety of flavors, it's better to order the assortment. Fried potatoes large (550 yen) A must-order for our family. We order it every time. Everyone from adults to children loves fried potatoes. Lettuce-only salad with Caesar salad dressing! (380 yen) Another classic. Crispy lettuce salad! It always disappears in an instant. Me-hikari's fritter (580 yen) The first time I saw a glowing fritter. It's soft, so I just gobbled it up from head to tail. Delicious with just salt! Grilled whole squid with liver butter sauce (680 yen) The squid was smaller than usual and had zucchini in it. The liver butter sauce is still delicious as ever. A must-order item and the most popular one. You should definitely order this. Roasted New Zealand lamb shoulder loin (1580 yen) There was no smell, just a hint of flavor that whets the appetite. When it comes to lamb, that unique flavor is irresistible. The meat is tender and delicious with just rock salt. The side dishes are young corn, tomato, cauliflower, and romanesco. I planned to order dessert, but I was too full in the end (laughs). Another satisfying day at kitchen fumi.

First time renting out the entire place with multiple families. Since it's a private booking, we had a course menu. [kitchen fumi Course Menu] Assorted appetizers: Beef belly ham, Chicken breast ham, Spicy duck ham, Beef raw ham, Marinated sardines and snow carrot, Shrimp and strawberry flan, Fava bean soup, Swordfish poêlé with butterbur sauce, Roasted pork shoulder loin with orange butter sauce. Dessert: Banana tart (no photo). In addition, we had focaccia. The meal cost 3500 yen per person. We had the place to ourselves for about 2.5 hours. We also had 3 bottles of wine (sparkling, white, red), beer, and other drinks, which came to around 5000 yen per person in total. The ham series was fantastic. Just when we thought it was all about ham, the marinated sardines and snow carrot were unexpectedly delicious. The flan was great too! The soup boosted our appetite, and we enjoyed the fish and meat dishes all at once. The side dishes were also delicious. We had a wonderful time and everyone was very satisfied! Thank you very much! We look forward to trying the regular menu next time.

I casually entered the restaurant and miraculously got a table that I thought was full. I ordered a salad with Caesar dressing, fried potatoes, carrot potage, grilled whole squid with liver butter sauce, roasted New Zealand lamb, baked cheese risotto, and oyster and mushroom peperoncino spaghetti. For dessert, I had a grape, strawberry, and apple ice cream, as well as a tea brulee. The food was delicious and I especially recommend the grilled whole squid and the New Zealand lamb. I can't wait to go back to fumi again and try their chicken dish next time!
