復活KOKOKO
After finishing work in Kanagawa for the first time in a while, I got off at Flag no Hata station on the Tokyu Oimachi line around 5:00 pm. I felt like having a drink, but I had a mountain of work to take home, so I couldn't. Since I hadn't eaten anything today, I decided to at least have a meal before heading home, and I was in the mood for fried rice, so I decided to go to "Tohkai Sakaba". I entered the restaurant at 5:15 pm, and there was only one elderly couple as the previous customers in the 48-seat restaurant. A Chinese female waitress led me to a table and I ordered the Braised Pork and Vegetable Fried Rice for 800 yen and Spring Rolls for 400 yen. There are 8 Chinese restaurants along the Tokyu Ikegami line with the name "Tohkai", but I'm not sure about their relationship. I have been to Tohkai Sakaba in Gotanda, Tohkai Sakaba in Togoshi Ginza, and Tohkai Hanten in Flag no Hata in the past, and I have always had the shredded pork fried noodles, feeling some similarity in the dishes. However, I didn't have high expectations for the food, based on my experiences at those three restaurants. The Spring Rolls were served in 12 minutes. They were cut in half, revealing minced pork, bamboo shoots, Chinese cabbage, and shiitake mushrooms inside. The filling was sparse, making the spring rolls look skinny. I prefer spring rolls, gyoza, shumai, and xiaolongbao that are plump and full. A minute and a half later, the fried rice was ready. It came with egg and seaweed soup. The fried rice was surprisingly voluminous when it was served. It consisted of eggs, finely chopped braised pork, and what seemed to be Chinese cabbage. I started eating. It had a dry texture typical of Chinese cuisine, with a balanced amount of oil, just the right amount of saltiness, and a nice umami flavor. The braised pork was firm in texture, like char siu, but its seasoning was like red-cooked pork belly. The slight bitterness of the Chinese cabbage also added a nice touch to the fried rice. It was so delicious that I ended up eating all of it, although I thought I shouldn't due to the amount. Maybe I can just consider this a cheat day and make excuses to myself, I thought as I paid with PayPay and left the restaurant. I felt really heavy thinking about the amount of work I had to take home. I wondered how many hours it would be until I could have a beer tonight.
