Uchisaiwai-cho / Kasumigaseki Lunch. You can enjoy a hearty Chicken Nanban for 800 yen including tax. I decided to try it out after reading some good reviews. When I arrived at the restaurant, it was full and there was a group of women waiting outside. This area has many people working, but there are also many dining options, so it's rare to see a line (probably due to the influence of COVID). Since there is only Chicken Nanban for lunch, I predicted that the turnover would be good and joined the line. After about 10 minutes, I entered the restaurant and sat at a table close to the kitchen with 2 seats. The interior of the restaurant is more like an izakaya or drinking establishment. It's not a private room, but the seating is divided into small groups, so it's quite cozy. As soon as I entered, I was told "Only Chicken Nanban" and true to that, the Chicken Nanban set arrived without taking our order. I think it only took about 5 minutes. They seem to be making it quickly, so the wait is not long. The large pieces of chicken, which are bigger than regular fried chicken, are made with breast meat and are light. After being soaked in sweet vinegar, they are topped with tartar sauce, making it a genuine Chicken Nanban. The side dishes include cabbage salad, rice, miso soup, and the all-you-can-eat Kyuchan on the table. The cabbage already has dressing on it. The dressing and the flavorful chicken go well with the rice. You can get a refill, but it might be better to get a large portion from the start. Even if your side dishes run out, you can eat with Kyuchan. However, the volume of chicken is really generous. There are quite a few female customers, and I wonder if everyone finishes their meal without leaving any leftovers. It would be nice to have a smaller menu option with only 3 pieces of fried chicken. It can be a hassle to discount the bill, so having a small side dish included might be a good idea. But that might be a hassle too. In any case, I was very satisfied with the Chicken Nanban set at this price in this location, and the line was worth it. If I have the chance, I would like to eat it again. By the way, when it comes to Chicken Nanban, I was impressed when I had a 1300 yen set at Miyazaki-kan in Shinjuku in the summer. That was a "special occasion Chicken Nanban set" with many side dishes, while this one is a simple and affordable "everyday Chicken Nanban set." The waitress was a foreign woman who was working alone, doing everything from serving to cleaning up and billing, and she was working very hard, which made me want to support her.
