I bought a whole shortcake from a traditional cake shop called Almond in Sangenjaya for an old friend's birthday party. It's a nostalgic taste that I've been eating since I was a child. It may not be a trendy cake nowadays, but I like these old-fashioned kids' cakes. This place is also one of Setagaya's soul foods. Ossu ossu!

A comforting family-run shop. I love the shortcake here! The cream is light and not too heavy, with a moist sponge. Highly recommended. The chocolate cake is also delicious. I thought if the chocolate cake is good, maybe the other cakes are too, but they were slightly different than expected. The pear tart was also amazing.

There is another branch on the bus street in Sangenjaya, and it seems to be under the same management. I had been to that branch before, and this time I bought the Twig's fresh chocolate that I couldn't get last time. The outside was slightly crispy and the inside was filled with fresh chocolate, giving it a very luxurious feel.

At the Armond shop in Wakabayashi, there is another store in Sangenjaya. At this store, they only sell frozen soft serve ice cream, so I opted for the Mont Blanc cake for takeout. Under the cream is a fluffy sponge cake, with a simple and delicious taste, making it a delightful tea time treat.

Every year, we have a barbecue at a friend's garden, and this time I remembered my friend's birthday so I bought a cake from a local longstanding cake shop. Since it was a sudden decision, they only had small whole cakes available, so I added some cookies and pies to the purchase. I explained that this cake is something I've been eating since I was a child in Sangenchaya. It's actually quite delicious. Cheers, cheers!

First of all, I love the cream puffs here! They're not cookie choux nor do they have vanilla beans. I don't sense any strong liqueur aroma, and they're not super fluffy choux either. But that's okay. That's what's good about them! The custard is dense and rich, with a strong eggy flavor. It's not too sweet and has a solid texture, yet it doesn't make your mouth feel sticky. It's amazing. Since the first time I tried it, it's been in heavy rotation for me. Can you feel how great it is?

I tried the recommended fresh chocolate from the shop. It costs 1200 yen for 20 pieces including tax. To be honest, it wasn't to my liking. I love milk chocolate and chocolates that melt in your mouth, but this one didn't suit my taste. It had too much of a milky flavor and a weak cocoa aroma, making it feel more like eating butter with a chocolate flavor. The cocoa powder sprinkled on top also seemed more like regular cocoa powder rather than a richer, darker one. Despite being labeled as "top quality," it somehow felt cheap to me. Although I could sense that they made it with confidence, it just didn't match my preferences. I believe there are other fresh chocolates out there with a better balance of milk and cocoa flavors (like YANAGI), so I won't be buying this one again.

It seemed like they were promoting the fresh chocolate items, but they cost around 1200 yen so I decided to pass this time. I wanted something sweet that I could eat quickly. What I bought this time was a cream puff (210 yen tax included). However, it wasn't good. The cream puff was wrapped in plastic wrap, which made me wonder. Still, as a cream puff lover, I decided to try it and it was not good. The choux pastry that seemed to be firm when freshly baked was now soft due to time passing and being wrapped in plastic wrap. The cream was flat and lacked the presence of vanilla beans. I wondered if there was no whipped cream inside. In any case, I didn't feel like it was worth 210 yen. I was more satisfied with the jumbo cream puff from Cozy Corner. I am interested in chocolate, but if the cream puff turns out like this, I hesitate. Many of the positive reviews are from people who tried the soft serve ice cream, so maybe the soft serve is delicious. ========== H28.11 revisit. I tried the cream puff again at the urging of my companion. I couldn't say, "This cream puff is not that great..." The cream puff I tried again tasted better than last time. The texture remained the same impression as before, but I felt like there was slightly more cream this time! So, it's okay. But why is it wrapped in plastic wrap... Chocolate mousse cake (350 yen) has a sponge base, milk chocolate mousse around it, whipped cream in the middle, and a rich chocolate mousse with ganache-like texture on top. The top mousse has a strong chocolate flavor and tastes delicious. The surrounding mousse has a lighter chocolate flavor, which makes it seem a bit cheap. The price is about the same as convenience store sweets or slightly higher. The taste is slightly better than convenience store sweets. I am satisfied with the balance of price and taste.

Located five minutes from Sangenjaya Station, facing Sasazawa Street. There is also a store along Setagaya Street, but this one seems to be the main one. I always use this place for White Day. The prices are not high, the taste is not too strong, and it is very convenient. Especially, the fresh chocolate is exquisite. I love how they label it as the finest chocolate on the package. I think I will continue to use this shop for a long time!

The nearest station is Nishi-Taishido Station on the Setagaya Line. This Western-style confectionery shop is located along Setagaya Street. Despite being noticeable as it faces the main road, it has only one review on Tabelog for some reason. Inside the shop, there are two friendly middle-aged female staff members. Most of the products are priced at under 300 yen. The Deluxe Shortcake (330 yen) was recommended as it has been featured on various TV shows. It is made of moist and fluffy sponge cake with plenty of strawberries. The texture of the sponge cake is very good, with a buttery flavor suggesting the use of buttercream. The whipped cream is smooth and creamy, but a bit too sweet if you eat too much. It's a nostalgic and simple shortcake. It's been a while since I last had one.

There is a cake shop on Setagaya Street with a traditional feel that has caught my attention for a while. Upon visiting, I discovered that it is a branch of the pastry shop Almond on Chazawa Street. They had a selection of cakes with a traditional town feel, but some had tags saying "Chef's recommendation." It's nice that they mark the recommended items in the shop. This time, I bought a Honey Roll, which is a limited quantity item available only a few times a day, as listed on the door sign. It's a roll cake that you can cut into your preferred size. Inside the whipped cream, there are finely chopped chestnuts. The chestnuts are not too big, just the right size, and the texture was perfect. The Setagaya Spirits' registered souvenir product is the highest-grade raw chocolate, and it seems they also sell it at this branch, so I look forward to buying it next time.
