On May 11, 2016, today I went to Oimachi. Yay, I was able to make a reservation at "Tempura Katagiri" for 2 people. It's located about a 7-minute walk from Oimachi Station, on a small street near Sendaizaka. This is a traditional tempura restaurant that suits Oimachi well. The interior of the restaurant has only a large counter with about 6 seats. Reservations are limited to one group per day! The chef, a 75-year-old master with 55 years of experience, runs the place alone. Since we made a reservation for 2 people, we were the only customers today. The walls are decorated with photos and signatures. I wonder if there are any celebrities who have visited? We will be having tempura prepared by the 75-year-old master today! We started with a draft beer (400 yen) and jellyfish salad, which I love. Next, we had conger eel with plum, which was delicious. I wanted to have sake but ended up discovering Sato Kuro, which was only sold by the bottle. So, I decided to go with shochu today! The tempura was served with tempura sauce and grated daikon radish. We enjoyed various tempura items like shrimp, white fish, shiitake mushrooms, fuki buds, and more. The tempura was cooked in shining beautiful oil. The chef's personality was very good. The atmosphere and the food were amazing. I wanted to try their sweet potato tempura as well. Overall, it was a delightful dining experience.
