On April 1st, April Fools' Day, I had some errands at a studio in Shinjuku Gyoen in the evening, so I was walking from Shinjuku Station. It was drizzling, but I thought it was manageable without an umbrella, so I briskly walked along the road between Shinjuku Street and Yasukuni Street. Suddenly, it started pouring rain like a bucket being overturned! Oh no! I need to buy an umbrella at the convenience store! No, even before that, I need to protect my camera! No, even before that, I need to protect the things in my bag! The convenience store was about 100 meters away. What should I do?! At that moment, I saw the lights of a Doutor coffee shop! Yay! The Doutor god must have helped me because I always favor Doutor! (What kind of god is that?!) So, with only 15 minutes left until my appointment, I took refuge in Doutor. I ordered my usual medium-sized iced coffee and waited for the rain to calm down while looking out the window. There was thunder, hail-like rain, it was quite a scene. Well, my DSLR camera that I carry around is waterproof, so it should be fine with a little rain, but man, what a day. By the time I finished checking my emails and drinking my iced coffee, the rain had subsided. It's like a subtropical climate here... So, that's the story of how I was saved by Doutor... no, wait!! Among Seattle-style coffee shops, I think Starbucks is best for hot coffee, but for iced coffee, I prefer Doutor. Starbucks' iced coffee feels like "they just cooled down hot coffee," but Doutor's is a straightforward iced coffee. I haven't researched what makes them different though. I used to rely on "Liquid Ice" in the summer, but since last year, I mainly go to the Nambu Post Office in Fuchu.
