Personally, the East Tengoku Kurozaki branch has become a summer tradition for me. After the Kurozaki Gion festival, it has become a habit to have dinner here before heading home. This year, since the Kurozaki Gion festival was canceled, I went to eat alone on a day when there was nothing special. I entered the restaurant right after it opened, so I had a brief moment of having the place to myself. There are counter seats and two large tables, but on the day of the Gion festival, it is usually crowded, so I have never sat at a table. It is always enjoyable to watch old friends or people with similar backgrounds gather and enjoy themselves (we are the same way, haha). They have a wide variety of drinks, but I always end up ordering the usual lemon sour. I ordered a plate of fried dumplings and tried the soup dumplings for the first time! (I usually just eat the fried dumplings and keep ordering more) First, the fried dumplings... they are still small! And they have a crispy, appetizing brown color. The skin is thin (which is important), and although the restaurant's website says there is hardly any garlic in them, the first bite has a strong garlic flavor! I find it hard to believe that there is hardly any garlic in them, but maybe it's because of the chives? Although it's not as intense as the garlic in Asahikawa or Maruoka, as someone who loves garlic and eats dumplings, that first bite is a moment of bliss. From the second bite, I get used to it and the garlic flavor fades away, as usual (laughs). I found chives sandwiched in the seam of the skin, which lifted my mood. The soup dumplings were a bit underwhelming (laughs). I still prefer the fried dumplings here. The soup was also not very distinctive, and it tasted like ordinary soy sauce. The dumplings are the same as the fried ones, so they should be delicious, but I prefer the crispy ones where you can really feel the thin skin. I thought the soup would be delicious if turned into a porridge, so I ordered the porridge as the finishing touch. I wondered if I could add the toppings listed in the hot pot section, so I asked, and it was possible! So I had it made into a chive porridge (*^ω^*) The default ingredients were egg, chopped seaweed, and plenty of sesame. Yes, it was delicious. The soup was not overwhelmingly to my liking, so I didn't have the dilemma of wanting to eat porridge but also wanting to drink the soup, which was a relief (laughs). At the Maboroshi ramen shop, I always have this dilemma, the soup is too delicious. I digressed, but they were generous with the chives, which was nice. I forgot to take a picture, but the enoki mushrooms in ponzu sauce are also a recommended side dish to take a break from chopsticks (^ω^) The portion was quite substantial, so I was about six-tenths full (I'm in the six-tenths full camp, not the eight-tenths). I realized I forgot to use that red chili pepper-like thing this time, as I ordered a highball for a refill after finishing my drink. The dumplings are quite small, so the cost performance is honestly low, but the appetizer dishes are reasonable and have a sense of value. Next time, I won't cheat and just order two plates of fried dumplings.
