I visited YamaYa for lunch after a long time! I arrived around 12:30 on Saturday and there were plenty of seats available. YamaYa's lunch is famous for offering unlimited servings of mentaiko (spicy cod roe) and pickled nozawana (leaf vegetable), but this time they also had unlimited servings of dashi (broth). I didn't know that! I love mentaiko, but I often couldn't reach the mentaiko all-you-can-eat because there were so many side dishes... But this time, the lunch menu portion was adjusted to a delicious amount that I could actually finish. It might not be enough for men, but I found it very convenient! The mentaiko fried chicken set was delicious as always! I ended my meal with mentaiko chazuke (rice with broth poured over) and left feeling completely satisfied. I thought to myself that I have to go back again while finishing every last bite.

In the past, the portion size of fried chicken used to be 5 pieces. Now it's down to 4 pieces, and they added a small salad as a side dish along with the cabbage salad, all for 1,400 yen. This restaurant, known for its fried chicken with cod roe and all-you-can-eat cod roe, seems to have become a place where you end up eating more salad than chicken. It's a shame they don't cater to those looking to watch their weight. The place seems more crowded due to understaffing rather than an influx of customers. The slow table turnover is contributing to the long lines.

I'm happy that they offer unlimited refills of mentaiko, takana, and rice! This time, I ordered the ham and menchi set meal. The thick menchi and ham cutlets were very satisfying! I enjoyed the salad, pickles, and of course, the mentaiko. The lunch portion was substantial and filling. It's a great option for those who want to eat to their heart's content because refills are available. The lunchtime crowd is lively, with long queues forming.

I wanted to destroy my appetite with a large portion of fried chicken and plenty of spicy cod roe, but wait, has the menu changed? The number of fried chicken pieces has been reduced to 4, and now they come with a side of potato salad in addition to the regular salad? No, no, no, that's not what I expect from Yayama. And to top it off, there's a price increase. So disappointing.

I've been curious about this place for a while, but it always seems so crowded during the day that I couldn't go. Finally visited for the first time on this day! The motsunabe set meal was substantial, with free refills of mentaiko and a delicious ochazuke at the end. It's a bit pricey at over 2000 yen, but it's a great treat once in a while. The soup and the motsu were excellent, and I definitely want to keep coming back to this restaurant. Thank you for the delicious meal!

While watching YouTube, Tonkatsu appeared and my wife wanted to have Tonkatsu for lunch. We went to a nearby Tonkatsu restaurant, but it was closed for Obon. So, we decided to have lunch at the adjacent Hakata motsunabe Yamaya Toyosu branch. Since there was no Tonkatsu, we ordered the mentai tartar tarakatsu set and the mentai karaage set. We also added some delicious karaage. I enjoyed the warm mentaiko on rice, a combination that never disappoints. We started with draft beer and then switched to shochu highballs, which were surprisingly cheap at 100-200 yen. The karaage and tarakatsu were tasty, but the mentaiko and rice stole the show.

I visited the restaurant around 1 p.m. on a weekday. There were no customers at the sunken kotatsu seats near the entrance. This restaurant requires payment upfront. The daily specials were minced cutlet and ham cutlet. I ordered the fried chicken set meal and the daily special. Pickled vegetables and spicy pickled greens are all-you-can-eat, so it costs 1300 yen or 1400 yen, which feels like a good deal. Otherwise, it's a 600 yen set meal. The minced cutlet was a bit greasy. I had four helpings of spicy cod roe, so I ended up feeling full.

I went to this restaurant for lunch with a friend. Although it's always crowded during lunchtime, we went around 12 o'clock and were able to get in after waiting for about 10 minutes. We ordered and paid at the register first, then found a seat. The lunch menu seems to be popular because our meal arrived very quickly, probably because they have already prepared dishes like fried chicken in advance. This time, I had the daily special set meal with deep-fried tofu and fried chicken. Of course, it came with unlimited servings of mentaiko (spicy cod roe) and takana (pickled mustard greens)!!! The side dishes were delicious, and I was surprised that I could enjoy the mentaiko buffet to my heart's content. You can also get refills of rice, mentaiko, and takana. It was a very satisfying lunch!

Today's lunch was at the Hakata motsunabe Yamaya Toyosu branch. Upon entering, I placed my order and paid at the register, then was shown to my seat. I ordered the daily lunch set (1,200 yen). As soon as I sat down, the popular items from Yamaya lunch arrived. Mustard pickles and spicy cod roe were all-you-can-eat. This is the secret to the lunch's popularity. Shortly after, the lunch set arrived. Today's daily special was fried chicken and fried tofu with dashi. Adding mustard pickles and spicy cod roe made it look even more luxurious. The freshly fried tofu and fried chicken were delicious. The dashi poured over both dishes was tasty and made me want to drink it. The side dish of vegetables was also included. The miso soup made with "Yamaya's delicious dashi," which contains 6 types of domestic dashi, was served with plenty of fried tofu, seaweed, and green onions, and it was delicious. I couldn't help but browse through the takeout menu for "delicious dashi" on the table. After finishing my rice, I did something I don't usually do and got a half portion refill. I also had a second helping of spicy cod roe and mustard pickles. I had a delicious and satisfying meal for lunch.

Today I was in the mood for Japanese food. What I had: - Grilled mackerel set meal for around 1000 yen. It came with miso soup and you can have extra mentaiko. There are also other set meals available at Yama-ya Japanese restaurant, which is nice. The bones were already mostly removed, which was appreciated.

Compared to other similar restaurants, the size of each piece of fried chicken is slightly smaller, but the portion size is still 5 pieces. However, at the Toyosu branch, it can be difficult to get a refill of rice due to a chronic lack of staff resources. The addition of mentaiko is also not readily available, giving the impression of being overpriced.

I ordered ginger pork which is 100 yen more expensive than fried chicken. The reason for the price difference is a mystery. It doesn't have a large portion and it's not especially delicious. If asked if it's particularly tasty, I would say there are better options for ginger pork. In fact, fried chicken has a larger portion and higher satisfaction level.

It's hard to catch a waiter here because there aren't enough staff to clear the dishes of people who have finished eating. There is always a line of people waiting to get in outside the restaurant. It's definitely busy during lunchtime, but it's frustrating because the restaurant is not full. You can choose from dishes like fried chicken, fish, ginger pork, simmered fish, and daily specials. Cod roe and pickled greens are all-you-can-eat, and you can help yourself to rice.

It seems more like an issue with the Yamaya Toyosu store rather than an issue with Yamaya in general. I'm not sure if they fired part-time workers due to COVID, but the store's lunch selling point, which should be unlimited rice and mentaiko refills, is failing due to a shortage of staff. With the disappearance of the mentaiko pot due to COVID, only small portions are now served on small plates, but the staff are so busy that they don't have time to attend to refills. It seems like a problem that goes beyond taste and portion size.

On Saturdays in Toyosu, there's a lunch option with unlimited mentaiko (spicy cod roe) and takana (pickled mustard greens). Despite the cold weather, the motsunabe (offal hot pot) lunch is a great choice. The restaurant is almost full, but you can relax on spacious seats. Free refills of takana and mentaiko make the rice go down smoothly. In addition to motsu, they also offer regular lunch options like grilled fish set meals. You can only pay at the beginning, and if you want a drink, you have to go to the register each time, which was surprising. Because of this, the table's barley tea pot is a lifesaver.

I usually go to Higashiyokocho for lunch, but I discovered this place in Toyosu. I ordered the ginger pork set meal, and unlike in Higashiyokocho where you can't choose individual items, here you can. To be honest, the quality of the set meal is not very high, but the restaurant focuses on offering unlimited mentaiko (spicy cod roe), so it's not a problem. I would like the quality of the miso soup to be improved if possible, as the taste of the miso soup after eating the mentaiko rice is important.

I went for lunch here. I've been to Shinagawa, Edogrand, Hiroshima, Sannomiya... but this place feels different from other Yamayas. First of all, the fried chicken is like small nuggets, 5 pieces... and the skin and batter are too thick and hard. The meat seems overcooked or left out for a while, making it dry. There's also not enough cabbage... and all of this for 1,300 yen, quite pricey. The rice... I wonder if it's been kept warm for too long, it's watery and sticky like glue. Well, when our office moved to Toyosu, I was happy to see a Yamaya nearby, but...

The tripe is pink in color, with a deliciously fatty texture. It's a bit pricey and the portion size feels a bit small for the price. Somehow a review was leaked. (Prologue... Lunch) - I had been wanting to try this lunch spot for a while. On this day, I decided to have an early meal. I arrived at 11:30 and was seated at the counter. I ordered the fried chicken set meal (1300 yen) from the menu. This lunch includes unlimited servings of mentaiko, takana, and rice. Fish eggs may not be the healthiest choice, but they are just so tempting. The fried chicken set meal was delivered within 5 minutes. The fried chicken was being freshly cooked right in front of me. It was really piping hot. (Hot fried chicken) - The hot fried chicken had a perfect seasoning for me. Not too sweet, not too salty... It was a flavor that made the rice go down easily. I finished half of the fried chicken and went for a rice refill. I kept piling the mentaiko on the fried chicken without thinking. They must be good at cooking rice here. It was white and shiny. I was completely full. (Conclusion... Worth it) - The 1300 yen for lunch may raise some concerns about cost-effectiveness, but it was definitely worth it. I realized that this is a good place to enjoy a slightly luxurious lunch when you want to treat yourself.

(2020.01.16) On the return flight from Tottori, I was seated next to three elderly women in seats ABC across the aisle. Throughout the nearly two-hour flight, I was amazed by their non-stop chatting and endless topics, realizing that no matter how old you are, a group of three women can be quite lively. After landing at Haneda, I took a limousine to Toyosu for a traditional Japanese lunch at "Yamaya." Despite being a few minutes past the lunch hours, the staff warmly welcomed us as there were still many customers inside. I decided to try the "Simmered Chicken Lunch Set" from the five lunch options available. Although the portion of chicken was small, there were plenty of chopped carrots, burdock, bamboo shoots, and vegetables, along with fibrous konjac and my favorite shiitake mushrooms. The dish was subtly seasoned, not particularly flavorful, but the condiments like spicy cod roe and pickled mustard greens on the table added a nice kick. I ended up having seconds of rice thanks to those condiments.
