It was a lunchtime visit. I decided to go in as it seemed like I could be seated right away. I ordered the sashimi set, but the tuna had a cloudy color and wasn't very tasty. It came out quickly after ordering, so it may have been pre-made. The speed of service was faster than fast food, which may be good for those who prioritize speed. However, at 800 yen, it felt a bit expensive. The customer service was good.

I will visit the izakaya Benkei in Tachikawa after a long time. This restaurant is located a few minutes away from the JR Chuo Line North Exit Line towards Tokyo. If you're drinking with a group of people without a reservation, there's a high chance you'll end up at this place. It's a reliable restaurant that accepts spontaneous visits without reservations. Let's go inside. Looking at the menu, they have standard menu items which are relatively inexpensive compared to other places. There's also a daily recommendation on the whiteboard. Let's start with a beer. They serve Malt's beer, which is rare. Let's order some sashimi, like the Yellowtail sashimi for 650 yen and the Mackerel for 560 yen. It's a good price. Let's switch to Hoppy now. Let's order the Ham Cutlet for 210 yen, the Menchi Katsu for 450 yen, and the Beef Tendon Stew for 440 yen. Someone in the group wanted the Oyster Hot Pot, so we ordered that too. We also ordered various yakitori skewers for 150 yen each, based on everyone's preferences. Additionally, we got the Leek and Egg dish for 380 yen and the Smoked Cheese for 380 yen. To finish, we ordered the Fried Udon for 510 yen. It was a fun time with everyone. Keep up the good work as a big, casual drinking spot in Tachikawa North Exit.

In the past, the meetings of the Kurote-kai were held at Benkei in Urawa, but there is actually a longstanding izakaya in Tachikawa called "Benkei." It is located on Yanagi Street near the Tachikawa Kitaguchi post office, next to "Shunsai Sumiyaki Tamagawa." It has a more deep and authentic izakaya feel compared to Tamagawa. I was intrigued by the wooden sign advertising "Unagi Donburi for 1,150 yen" when I went out for a daytime drink with my wife the other day and decided to stop by on a holiday. As we entered the restaurant, we were greeted energetically by a beautiful older woman and a slightly younger beauty. We sat at a table where we could see the TV and although I had decided on the Unagi Donburi, I took a look at the menu... most set meals were surprisingly cheap at 700 yen including tax. Tonkatsu or ginger pork... I was tempted to try something different, but I stuck to my original plan and ordered the Unagi Donburi. Since it was a day off, I also ordered a beer. A draft beer arrived! I've been reminded by MyRepi a few times, but perhaps due to the presence of a Suntory factory in Fuchu, there are many stores in Tachikawa that serve Suntory beer. I don't dislike Malt's. But my favorite draft beer is Sapporo Black Label. For bottled beer, it's Akahoshi. I'll order Master's Dream if it's cheap, though. Oops, I got off track again. Let's get back on topic. The eel that arrived that day took nearly 10 minutes, probably reheated. Well... the world isn't that kind, right? I had a bit of expectation since they went to the trouble of hanging the menu on the storefront. But there was a silver lining! The lunch menu is quite reasonably priced. Two weeks later, on my way back from Hashimoto, I stopped by and ordered the ginger pork set meal, natto, raw egg, and extra rice, and I was quite satisfied. There were a few office ladies during lunchtime, but you don't see many 700 yen lunch sets these days. I also thought it might be nice to come for drinks at night, if it's non-smoking... (this is the sad part, meow~)

Today, I had lunch in Tachikawa. It's a famous Chinese restaurant known for half-price gyoza on days with a 5 in them, so I decided to stop by after a long time. However, there was a sign saying they are temporarily closed until July 7th. I crossed Tachikawa Station and found another restaurant where they had a board with multiple lunch options written on it. I entered through the manual sliding door and was greeted by a cheerful female staff member. I ordered the sashimi set meal for 750 yen, which came with yellowtail, tuna, salmon, miso soup, and pickles. They also offered free extra rice, but I opted for a regular portion. It was very delicious. I will definitely visit again for dinner. Thank you.

I used this restaurant for a welcome party with my new colleagues. They serve beer in large mugs and you can order a bottle of shochu with Hoppy for a good deal. The menu includes yakitori and motsunabe, both of which are delicious. It seems like I will be relying on this great restaurant many times in the future.

I casually patrolled around Tachikawa Station today. I turned right at the JR Tachikawa Station East ticket gate, walked through the free passage to the north exit, and as soon as I exited the north exit of Tachikawa Station, I turned right, went down the stairs, and walked straight down the Yanagi Street on the first floor. On the left side, I visited "Benkei" today. I entered the restaurant at 6:00 PM on a weekday. I was guided to the counter seats at the back on the left side by a male staff member at the entrance. While looking at the menu, I remembered that I used to come to "Benkei" often. Today, I felt like having a quick drink. I ordered a bottled beer (Malt's), potato salad, and octopus sashimi. I enjoyed the bottled beer while eating. The "potato salad" had mainly cucumbers as ingredients, and the crunchy texture of the cucumbers in the soft potato salad was enjoyable. The cucumber's flavor was not strong, so it blended well with the potato salad and tasted delicious. The "octopus sashimi" had the sliminess and dirt properly removed and processed. I enjoyed the chewy and soft texture of the octopus while eating. I love the texture of octopus. Today, I savored delicious "potato salad" and my favorite "octopus sashimi." It was Q-chan who enjoyed it. [Bill] - Bottled beer: 640 yen - Potato salad: 290 yen - Octopus sashimi: 510 yen Thank you for the meal.

A izakaya near Tachikawa Station North Exit. The exterior and interior are perfect for salarymen to stop by after work. It has the atmosphere of a traditional izakaya from the Showa era. I sit at a table and order a draft beer. It's cold and delicious! The dishes include grilled eggplant, shirasu with grated daikon, and thick fried tofu. I also try bonito sashimi for the first time. The menu choices are very traditional and suitable for an older crowd. The dishes are simple but tasty, not outstanding but comforting. Besides beer, I also enjoy herbal liquor and shochu highball. This place is perfect for unwinding with a drink after work.

The place is located along a road about 2-3 minutes' walk from the north exit of Tachikawa Station towards the Kokuritsu direction along the Chuo Line tracks. "Benkei" is a popular pub in Tachikawa, along with "Sakatei Tamagawa." I visited for lunch for the first time on February 14, 2020, around 12:40 pm. The lunch menu includes various set meals and curry dishes, with all rice portions being free of charge. The prices are very reasonable, with curry rice priced at only 470 yen. I ordered the Menchi Katsu Croquette set meal for 680 yen, which was served quickly. The food, including Menchi Katsu and Croquette, was delicious and satisfying. The restaurant seems to have a lot of pre-made dishes, which makes it a great option for a quick lunch. I look forward to visiting again for dinner next time.

I have always wanted to visit this shop at night, but this was my first time visiting during the day. The ginger pork set meal was ready in about five minutes, and it seemed like they either pre-made it or had a variety of sashimi. It seems like the shop mainly focuses on fish dishes at night, with options like whale sashimi and horse sashimi, as well as various hot pot dishes. There also appears to be a second floor, and the first floor alone could accommodate around 50 people. I sat at the counter seats. Behind the entrance counter, there was a skewer grilling area where an elderly man was preparing for the night. The skewers looked quite substantial, so I would like to try them at night. There seemed to be a large number of staff in the hall, so I don't think you will have to wait too long.

I went to an izakaya for lunch. I arrived around 1 pm, where it functions as a teishokuya during the day and an izakaya at night. The menu was very affordable! I ordered the pork ginger set meal for 680 yen today. The food arrived in less than 10 minutes. The slightly sweet sauce went well with the rice. I was very satisfied with the taste! I will definitely come back!

Tachikawa's Benkei-san is an old-fashioned public bar. When it comes to old-fashioned, the place is spacious. Recently, I feel like many places are becoming a bit cramped. You can find it by heading west along the tracks after exiting the north exit of Tachikawa Station. It's great, I ended up ordering a variety of dishes. In a place like this, I always end up drinking beer and sour cocktails. The fried pork cutlet and salted fish roe were delicious, and the atmosphere with the middle-aged men around was fun! I enjoyed the first stop of the night! Thank you for the meal~♪

As I was walking down the street, I could smell the good aroma of white smoke and grilled chicken coming from a shop. Benkei-san's batting average is 50%, whether he can get in or not when he tries. There was only one seat available on the first floor that day! I couldn't wait anymore, so I went in by myself and enjoyed a salad, grilled chicken, chicken wings, and a glass of oolong tea without waiting for my retired drinking buddies from a year ago. This place is an old-fashioned drinking establishment with great taste, atmosphere, and cost performance. The only thing that seemed to have changed was that there were fewer elderly women showing their charm in the hall, but the men were doing their best. Even if they told me not to come (which they didn't say), I would still go! Thank you for the meal!

This second shop is quite useful, although there are some things to overlook. It's a place that has been reigning in a prime location in Tachikawa since a long time ago, so it is popular. It is recommended to visit while slightly tipsy due to some cleanliness issues. The shop is not dirty or unappetizing, so don't misunderstand. It has a nostalgic Showa era vibe and is loved by older men. Even though we were already full, we ordered a mixed plate of fried horse mackerel and grilled skewers. The Yuran group's satiety center was completely defeated. After that, Yuran slept deeply and missed their stop at a mysterious station called Hirama. That was the end of Yuran's adventure.

Tachikawa - Dasshutsu Sakagura Benkei
The area around Tachikawa Station has changed a lot, but there are still old shops along the tracks towards Shinjuku at the north exit. Benkei is one of those. Benkei is a large establishment. "Dasshutsu Sakagura" is a name that we don't see much these days. Let's go in right away. The place is packed with customers. The atmosphere is really nice. Once inside, let's place our order. With such a big establishment, the menu is extensive. Stewed dish for 420 yen. This stew is on the sweeter side, a rare type. The classic kushikatsu for 420 yen, and fried squid for 340 yen. Let's also choose from the specials on the blackboard. Boiled and grilled mushrooms for 350 yen. This is a menu item not often seen at this shop. It has a variety of mushrooms. Finally, let's order some skewers (140 yen each). Skewers are the specialty of this shop. They also offer takeout. I hope they continue their business as usual in the future.

On a day off, without a clear plan on where to go for lunch, I ended up in Tachikawa. While walking around the north exit, I spotted a restaurant called "Benkei." I had known about this izakaya before, but for some reason, I had never had the chance to visit it at night. Since they also serve lunch on weekdays, I decided to give it a try. I entered the restaurant a little after 2 pm, with about 3 other customers already there. Izakayas usually only offer their lunch menu during lunchtime, so I wondered if this place was the same. I ordered the chicken tempura set meal for 630 yen. A large bottle of Malt beer was 610 yen. The tempura had a crispy texture, probably made with chicken thigh meat, and surprisingly juicy. It also came with mayonnaise, which was a nice touch, and the miso soup was delicious and not overcooked. Other customers were ordering items other than the lunch menu and were drinking as well. It seems like you can have a casual drink during lunchtime. I would like to try having a drink during the day next time, taking advantage of my weekday off. But I also feel like the restaurant would be just as good for a regular evening visit.

This is a popular izakaya along the train tracks in Tachikawa. I visited for a quick lunch gathering. As soon as we entered, they asked us right away, "What will you have?" The atmosphere inside was filled with local older men, and old songs and enka were playing, creating a nice vibe.
- Grilled conger eel with plum paste: Refreshing with the bones cut just right. The plum paste was quite sour, haha.
- Edamame
- Octopus sashimi
- Cheese spring rolls: Spring rolls filled with cheese. The gooey texture was delicious.
- Grilled chicken skewers (leek and meatball): The leek skewer was a bit salty with salt, but the meatball skewer sauce was tasty.
The Hoppy here was served generously! This is a good place to drink and have a lively time with great cost performance. Thank you for the meal.

I ordered the fried horse mackerel. I will continue my search for a set meal restaurant in Tachikawa. The fried horse mackerel was a bit tough with oil soaked in, lacking a fluffy texture. Thank you for the meal.

I had dinner here in Tachikawa on a regular night. It's a typical casual pub. The draft beer was 550 yen, not cheap, but the glass was full, which was good. The stewed giblets had tofu chunks in it and was very sweet, like a meat and tofu version of motsunabe. The alcohol selection wasn't anything special. The food wasn't particularly amazing either. But the atmosphere was nice. I sat alone at the counter seat, which was spacious and not too crowded, making it relaxing. There were plenty of staff members, and the service was good. There were many photos of Mount Fuji displayed inside, maybe the owner's hobby. In the menu under "yakitori," there were options like "kashira" and "tan," which made me hesitate. Who eats chicken tongue, right? I ordered it and, sure enough, yakiton was mixed in. Among the food, the skewers (yakitori and yakiton) were outstanding. The chicken tongue yakiton was large and well-prepared. The chicken tsukune was also delicious. I caught a glimpse of an elderly person with a different style grilling the skewers. With all the eating and drinking, the bill came out to 4,300 yen.
