I felt like eating Takahashi soba after a long time, so I called on a weekday and went out for lunch. It's not very close, taking about 30 minutes to walk from my house, and using a bus would be inconvenient as it's in an inconvenient location. If you take a bus from Ogikubo Station, you get off at Ogikubo 4-chome and it's right by the Kanto Expressway. When we arrived at 12:00, we were the only customers. The interior of the restaurant was traditional Japanese style with jazz music playing, surprisingly calming. The wife has been unwell, so the husband is managing the place alone. I ordered the Tempura Soba for 1870 yen and waited. Lately, I always get the Tempura Soba. I used to also order the soupless Soba, but I no longer feel the need, perhaps due to my age. The soba was still delicious, thin and smooth with a good texture. The tempura was also tasty, and the sauce was to my liking. They couldn't serve tea because the husband was alone. I thought Takahashi, which has been selected as a top 100 restaurant, would be crowded, but no other customers arrived until we left. There used to always be several groups of customers before. Was it just a coincidence? It's strange that such a delicious soba restaurant doesn't have lunchtime customers. Maybe it's because it's far from the station. But even far away, popular ramen shops are crowded. Is there a difference between ramen and soba? It made me think. I hope the husband can manage running the place alone, even though it must be tough.

It seems quite challenging to handle everything alone. It's better to make a reservation before going since most customers seem to have reservations. This soba restaurant is a bit different - they don't serve tea or water, no extra-large portions available, but they offer seiro (soba without soup) for those who want to eat a lot. They also have duck hot pot as a specialty. Unfortunately, the soba didn't suit my taste. However, it seems like the main focus is on alcohol, snacks, and duck dishes.

Soba restaurant in Ogikubo. Visited during dinner time on a day off from drinking alcohol. ~Order~ Seiro (cold soba) - 990 yen I don't usually think much about the appearance of soba, but I found the soba here to be exceptionally beautiful. The soba noodles, which are very thin, have an excellent aroma, texture, and smoothness. The spicy dipping sauce and the spicy daikon radish condiment were also good. Although the soba is relatively expensive, I felt it was well worth the price. It's rare to be so impressed by a dish with little oil, but this soba was different. Next time, I want to enjoy it with some alcohol on a day when I can drink. Thank you for the meal.

I visited a famous soba restaurant in Ogikubo for the first time. Since the owner runs the restaurant alone, reservations are necessary. It is not suitable for those who want to eat soba quickly. The side dishes were delicious, including soba tofu, sweet potato tempura, and rolled omelette, all homemade and carefully prepared. You can enjoy them before the soba arrives. The soba is ground on a stone mill in the back of the restaurant, resulting in thin noodles with a smooth texture. The dipping sauce for the soba had a strong soy sauce flavor, reminiscent of the Kanto region.

I came back after 10 years because I wanted to bring my friend who loves soba noodles with me this time. The owner is still very polite and serves fresh and delicious soba noodles. They have a good selection of sake, and they had Tokugetsu River available. Also, the fluffy soba noodles are really delicious, so I highly recommend trying them!

The owner of the restaurant had injured his right hand and had been resting for a while, causing concern. Just as the state of emergency was about to be lifted, it was decided to extend the closure period further. In June, the owner announced on Facebook that the restaurant was reopening, so I had been wanting to visit soon. Finally, in July, I had some free time and called three days ago to make a reservation. I arrived at the restaurant at 5:30 pm, after a 15-minute walk from Ogikubo Station. The restaurant had a reservation system for evening hours only. The owner greeted me as I entered and it seemed like he was managing everything alone. I was seated at a table I had been to before. I ordered a beer and was served the usual fried soba as a complimentary appetizer. For food, I chose the "Sake Appetizer Trio" which included homemade wasabi, ikura miso, and fuki no tou miso. The flavors were delicious and not too salty. I also ordered the "Small Shrimp Tempura" which was crispy and tasty. I ordered a bottle of cold sake which I could pour myself, and the taste was refreshing with a good balance of flavors. The soba noodles were served promptly and had a nice texture and flavor. The overall experience was satisfying, but it felt strange not seeing the owner's wife around, as she was usually part of the welcoming atmosphere. The owner mentioned that she was not feeling well. It was sad to hear that another similar restaurant in Zoshigaya had closed recently. This restaurant, like the one I was at, was run by a couple and had a similar style of operation.

Visited with a friend on Thursday at 6:00 PM. It's about a 15-minute walk from the south exit of Ogikubo Station. It's recommended to make a reservation as more customers started arriving after 6:30 PM and the seating is limited to about 6-7 groups. The owner apologized for being the only one working and asked for some time. We ordered the following: - Tempura Soba - Grilled duck with green onions - Wasabi pickles The total cost per person was around 2,800 yen. The soba was thin and smooth, with a delicious broth. The tempura was plentiful, with 3 shrimp included. The grilled duck was tasty and had no unpleasant smell. The wasabi pickles were very spicy, but my friend enjoyed them with sake. The owner was friendly and made the dining experience enjoyable.

It's been a while since my last visit. Today, I ordered the Ten Seiro Soba again. I love the rich aroma of the soba. The tempura is perfectly crispy and delicious. I can't get enough of the texture and flavor. The dipping sauce goes well with both the soba and tempura, making it a 100% satisfying meal. And finishing with the soba-yu is also amazing. Every dish is so satisfying, and I left the restaurant feeling happy once again.

I visited the nearby famous soba restaurant "Ishiusu Hikitate Tetsuchi Soba Takahashi" located a 12-minute walk from Ogikubo Station. I arrived 10 minutes before the opening time on a Sunday and there was no waiting line. I was able to enter as soon as they opened. I ordered the Duck Seiro Soba for 1,750 yen. It was served in about 10 minutes. The dipping sauce contained a generous amount of thinly sliced duck meat, and both the duck meat and duck broth were very delicious. The soba noodles were quite thin, but had a good texture and went well with the duck broth. I enjoyed it until the last bite.

The restaurant is located along a main road, making it easy to find. Both the exterior and interior of the restaurant have a traditional soba shop atmosphere. The noodles are thin and delicate in flavor. While tastes may vary, those who prefer a more substantial noodle might find it a bit lacking.

I visited the restaurant just past 1 pm on a Saturday, near closing time. The interior was very clean with 5 tables. Before sitting down, I had to write down my name and phone number for COVID-19 precautions. Today, I had the Tempura Seiro Soba for 1870 yen. It was served in about 10 minutes. The tempura included three shrimp, eggplant, seaweed, shiso leaf, and taro, which was quite generous. The tempura was very satisfying. The soba noodles were thin and had a good texture, and they paired well with the slightly spicy dipping sauce. There were the female owner, the male owner, and one more staff member present. The service was good. Although I didn't use it, a separate dish of shichimi togarashi (seven spice blend) was provided with the seiro. It was a great meal.

Visited the soba restaurant "Takahashi" which is one of the top 100 soba restaurants, located near Ogikubo station. The chef, Takahashi, who used to work at the over 100-year-old "Honmura-an" restaurant, seems to have higher ratings than the original shop. The menu offers a variety of half-sized dishes such as duck with green onions, ikura with miso, and half-sized soba noodles with wasabi, which is convenient. The aged ikura with grated daikon is light and refreshing. The duck is cooked on a hot plate, sizzling and full of flavor. Eating it with green onions and yuzu pepper enhances the taste of the duck, especially when paired with sake. The Niigata sake "Sui soba" served warm has a strong and delicious taste, highly recommended over other brand sakes. The "Tenseiro" soba noodles with shrimp, seaweed, pumpkin, and chrysanthemum leaves for the final course are thin and the broth is sweet and salty, with a refreshing finish.

Located about 11 minutes from Ogikubo Station, a little off the Kanpachi Street, is a soba restaurant. I visited with a friend as it was close to their house. The restaurant, run by a master who has inherited the traditions of the over 100-year-old Honmurain, is small and cozy. I ordered the limited-time oyster soba, while my friend ordered the tempura soba. The oysters and the soba were both amazing, making me feel incredibly happy. This restaurant has now become one of my top favorites for soba. I can't wait to visit again soon. Thank you for the delicious meal! ♡

◎Overview Located a short walk from JR Ogikubo Station, this soba restaurant is run by someone who used to work at the renowned local establishment "Honmurain." It has been selected as one of the top 100 soba restaurants in Japan. ◎Notes - I ordered two dishes this time and will review them in order. - The tempura soba is a set menu that includes warm soba with a side of assorted tempura. The soba, made from homemade flour, has a delicious aroma and flavor. The thinly cut noodles allow the broth to coat them well, and the light yet flavorful broth pairs perfectly with the soba. The tempura, mainly vegetable tempura, has a light texture that complements the soba well. - I also ordered soba-gaki, which allows you to directly savor the flavor of the soba. The smooth texture and rich soba flavor are impressive, and I found that enjoying it with just a small amount of soy sauce is best. - I visited on a rainy day, and despite the weather, the restaurant was busy with customers. By the time I left, they were even announcing sold-out items. The clientele seemed to be on the older side, enjoying soba and Japanese sake. The calm atmosphere and high-quality soba made it a place where you can focus on the soba in front of you. Highly recommended. ◎Duration of Stay Approximately 30 minutes ◎Cost ¥3,120 for 2 people (Tempura Soba ¥1,870, Soba-gaki ¥1,250)

On a Sunday afternoon, I transferred from Shinjuku to Ogikubo. I visited "Honmura An" in the middle of summer and returned to it now. The weather was a bit chilly, and I walked from the south exit to reach the restaurant. It was just opened, with no customers at first. A couple of groups arrived while I was waiting for my order, but it didn't get crowded. The menu only offered soba noodles in a seiro (bamboo steamer) until September, along with tempura and duck dishes. I couldn't tell if it was a lunch menu special or due to the current state of emergency, but the restaurant seemed to be facing challenges. I ordered the tempura soba with a refill. The soba noodles were thin and went perfectly with the not-too-strong broth. The broth could have been a bit saltier, but it matched well with the finely cut noodles. I couldn't stop eating. Ordering the refill was the right choice. The tempura, especially the shrimp, was delicious. While the eggplant and shiso leaves seemed a bit too oily for my taste, the crispy texture outside and moist inside of the shrimp, along with its delicate umami flavor, was excellent. The sweet potato and pumpkin tempura were surprisingly tasty as well. The combination of the delicious shrimp tempura and soba noodles made me feel happy. The total bill of 2,500 yen was quite reasonable. However, I was curious about the duck dish in Yufuin style, but since it's not duck season, I decided to save it for my next visit. I believe the restaurant is run by a husband and wife, and their friendly and thoughtful service adds to the enjoyable dining experience. I want to cheer them on from the sidelines.

There is a restaurant about a 15-minute walk from Ogikubo Station towards the Kandai direction. It is recommended to take a bus from Ogikubo. As it was Father's Day, I went there with my elderly father in a taxi. The restaurant had thorough COVID-19 measures in place, making it a safe place to dine. Ogisero Soba for 1850 yen was served first, with delicious tempura (3 prawns, sweet potato, eggplant, shiso leaf, etc). The soba noodles were very thin, meant for enjoying the aroma of the buckwheat rather than its firmness. It was so tasty that I ordered an extra serving of soba. The small gesture of a chocolate gift was also appreciated. Instagram ID: kuidaore.8.

Located about a 10-minute walk from Ogikubo Station is a small soba restaurant called Hyakumeiten. It seems to be run by a husband and wife. I had the "Seiro Soba" for 990 yen. The tempura dishes also looked delicious, but today I decided to just have the Mori Soba. The soba noodles were just the right thickness and had a nice aroma. The dipping sauce for the soba had a rich and strong flavor. Surprisingly, there was no wasabi served with the soba, only grated daikon radish and chopped green onions. Instead, there was shichimi pepper on the side. I tried sprinkling a bit of the shichimi pepper on the soba, and while it wasn't very spicy, it left a tingling sensation in the back of my throat. It was a unique experience.

I had lunch at a top 100 soba restaurant called "Takahashi". The restaurant is located about a 15-minute walk from Ogikubo Station along the Kanpachi Street. The exterior of the restaurant looks quiet and unassuming. When I entered, there were no other customers, so I ordered the Oroshi Soba (1150 yen). The soba noodles, served with grated daikon radish, were cut into short, thin pieces. The broth was delicious with a nice dashi flavor. The spiciness of the grated daikon radish also complemented the dish well. I finished my meal by drinking the soba broth. However, the way the staff handled my umbrella roughly left a bad impression. Thank you for the meal.

Visited the restaurant at 11:30 on a national holiday. It's a bit far from the station, but there are many flat roads in Suginami Ward, which is enviable. ▼What I ate - Duck soba for 1750 yen ▼Payment method - PayPay The duck broth felt a bit light in flavor. The soba was thinly cut and gave a refreshing impression.

Blog: Hangover Cure Meal at Instagram Hashidomo Today, we introduce a soba restaurant we visited for lunch in Ogikubo. The exterior looked like a typical soba restaurant, but the prices were surprisingly high. Since it didn't seem too crowded, we decided to go in. They specialize in stone-milled hand-cut soba, so we were excited to try it! The interior of the restaurant had a calm and cozy atmosphere with wooden accents. The soba tofu on display looked delicious. Menu: - Seiro Soba: 990 yen - Seiro (without soup): 650 yen - Oroshi Soba: 1150 yen - Nameko Soba: 1250 yen - Mozuku Soba: 1450 yen Everything looked delicious, but we decided to go with the Oroshi Soba. After a short wait, the Oroshi Soba arrived. It was topped with plenty of condiments like bonito flakes, green onions, and a spicy seasoning. It seemed like a Shinshu-style soba. The soba itself was refreshing and had a light flavor. The broth was flavorful and had a crisp taste. The grated daikon radish added a slight sweetness, and the spicy seasoning complemented the dish well. Adding the condiments directly to the soba and dipping it in the broth enhanced the flavors even more. The soba broth was thick and rich, which was a nice contrast to the light soba noodles. Overall, it was a great dining experience at this well-known restaurant. The unique condiments added a fresh twist to the traditional soba dish. I wish I could have enjoyed some sake with the meal, but maybe next time. I would love to visit again and try some of their other soba dishes.

Thin, moist, with a good chewiness and a smooth texture, and a pleasant aroma - this is the type of soba I like. It had a unique touch with ichimi togarashi (Japanese red pepper) sprinkled on top. I wasn't sure how to use it, so I tried dipping my chopsticks in it and eating it with grated daikon radish and green onions on a small plate. The dipping sauce had a strong bonito flavor, and the soba broth was thick and creamy. I should have asked how to use the ichimi before finishing my meal. I will make sure to inquire about it next time I visit. Soba noodles in a steamer - ¥990 Date: Saturday, around 12 pm Seating: Table Frequency: First visit Location: About a 10-minute walk from Ogikubo Station.
