I thought about stopping by Nara on the way, but I was tired so I decided to head back to Osaka. However, I came across a bakery with high ratings at Kizu Station. While waiting for the train, I decided to check it out. The shop had a train inside for some reason. I chose the recommended Shalda Bacon Cheese Roll in half size and the highly recommended Melon Pan, paying 599 yen in cash. I tried them on my way back, and the Melon Pan was just okay, but the Bacon Cheese Roll was delicious.

I visited Pan O Seagull for the first time in years. For a snack after lunch, I had the "Fig and Walnut Campagne." I chose the freshly baked one. The headmark on the Blue Train was "Asakaze." Location: Pan O Seagull, 35-7 Kizugawara, Kizugawa City, Kyoto Prefecture.

When heading towards Nara by car, I often see this bakery on the way, but I rarely have the opportunity to stop by due to the timing of passing by. I finally decided to buy some bread after a long time. I purchased a pepper sinken sandwich, a cream puff, and a piroshki. I had memories of it being a "delicious bakery," so I was looking forward to it, but when I tried them, the piroshki had a delicious dough and filling, which was satisfying, but the sandwich and cream puff were just average. Considering the high price of the sandwich, the total for the three items was almost 1000 yen, which felt a bit expensive for what I got. Maybe my expectations were too high...

On 5/4 (Wednesday), I went on a bread tour from southern Kyoto to Nara to Wakayama! The 4th shop I visited was "Pan O Seagull" in Kizugawa City, Kizugawa. It is a bakery that uses 100% natural yeast. The shop is famous for having a Blue Train inside! It might excite train lovers or railfans, but I am more interested in bread, so I was busy choosing bread with tongs. Each bread looks solid and has the elegance of natural yeast bread. I heard that the types of bread available change depending on the time of day, so I thought they only had sweet bread in the morning, but to my surprise, there were also hard bread like Triple Nut Campagne and Lemon & Cacao! The hard bread made with natural yeast is definitely my favorite! They are quite large, but I got one Lemon & Cacao and a Melon Pan! On 5/20 (Saturday), I had the bread I bought for lunch. First, I tried the Lemon & Cacao. Since the size was too big, I sliced only the amount I could eat and brought it with me. (I sliced half of it on the day of purchase and gave it to a friend. The other half is at home.) The rye dough is dense and has a deep aroma and flavor. When combined with the slight sweetness of chocolate and the refreshing taste of lemon peel, it brings a soothing time. And then the Melon Pan. The base dough with a gentle taste of eggs has a dense texture, and the moist biscuit dough on the surface creates a perfect balance. An ideal Melon Pan. I will enjoy the rest of the Lemon & Cacao on another day. (Photo 19th) Illustrated purchases ===========

This bakery is different from regular ones as they continuously bake fresh bread throughout the day, with the smell of freshly baked bread filling the outside parking lot. However, they are closed on Sundays, so you can only stop by on Saturdays. It's unclear why there is a train inside the shop, but if you are using Route 163, it's worth a visit. The shop is always busy with customers, so if you are interested in bread, you should definitely try it out!

I am not interested in trains, but the restaurant offers very high-quality bread that goes beyond just being trendy or popular. They have a strong commitment to quality, and everything looks delicious. I also purchased the specialty eggs used in the shop and I look forward to enjoying them for a while.

I visited a bakery with a Blue Train inside around 9:00 am on a weekday! I don't know much about trains, but it was huge and impressive! I got excited and ended up buying a lot of items. The piroshki and fish burger were both delicious. The Lemon White Cookies looked very cute and tasted great. The Banana Chiffon was as delicious as I expected.

There was actually a bullet train head inside the store. I thought it would be bigger, but it seems kind of short? The garage can fit quite a few cars. Customers kept coming in one after another, so it seems popular. I like the shrimp cutlet sandwich, but it was a bit disappointing that the tartar sauce was just in a paper bag. The discounted cream melon bread was as described, with the bottom dough being moist from the water content. Surprisingly soft and delicious. Looking forward to the toast for tomorrow morning.

A bakery with natural yeast along National Route 24 near JR Kizu Station. Inside the store, there is a cut model of an electric locomotive that was used to pull the Blue Train, which is impressive. My train enthusiast wife was so excited that she hardly looked at the bread. They have a variety of breads, including soft breads, sandwiches, danishes, and savory breads. This time, we took out the following: delicious cream and fruit sandwich, country roast sandwich using Oyama ham. I was surprised by the bread in the shape of a train, but the taste is quite ordinary and easy for everyone to enjoy.

Head to "Pan O Seguru" in Kizugawa City, Kyoto Prefecture. It is located about 450m southwest of Kizu Station on the JR Yamato Line. The parking lot can accommodate up to 10 cars, including compact cars. Inside the shop, you will find the driver's cab of the electric locomotive "EF66 No. 49," which exudes a strong presence. It seems that negotiating with JR and carrying out the installation work was quite challenging, showing the owner's affection for the shop. The shop has a pleasant aroma, and you will notice a variety of bread, including meal and side dishes, rather than just pastries, supporting daily life.
- "Triple Nut Campagne (Half)" Price: 460 yen (excluding tax)
Walnuts, cashews, and macadamia nuts are boldly kneaded in whole, and the half-size cut looks generous as the nuts seem to be falling out of the cut surface. This is enough reason for nut lovers to purchase (laughs). The fragrant outer layer is made with brown rice, and the inside contains black rice. The texture is not too hard or too soft, and the taste is plain. It is delicious with butter, but it makes you want to pair it with a potage soup.
- "Nuts and Cacao (Half)" Price: 455 yen (excluding tax)
Even in half size, it is quite large and feels heavy when held in hand. The crunchy fragrant bread dough contains cashews, macadamia nuts, and a chocolate block that looks like a giant chocolate chip cookie. The taste of the chocolate is exactly like a chocolate chip cookie, enhancing the nutty and fragrant flavor of the dough with a sweet aroma. Thank you for the meal (^^)

After having lunch, I stopped by here! Planning to take it home and enjoy later~ (#^^#) As soon as I walked into the store, I noticed... they had toy trains! I never ride trains and know nothing about them, but it was so cool (≧▽≦) The shrimp tart was 230 yen and it's no wonder it's the most popular - delicious♡ The chocolate tornado was 210 yen and ranked 1.5, it was chewy and tasty. The natural cream melon was 280 yen. I forgot the price of the curry bread. My partner had the top two items and said they were delicious. Thank you for the meal! (^人^)

The reason I stopped by this shop was the words "100% all-natural yeast" written on the wall of the shop! It seems that people are becoming more interested in food safety in recent years, and there are more shops that focus on organic products, right? Generally, these kinds of shops tend to be a bit pricey, but I vaguely think it would be nice to actively incorporate them into my life (^_^) Now, inside the shop! I've visited a few times before, so I had a specific product in mind, but it was nowhere to be found... (⑉꒦ິ^꒦ິ⑉) トホホ... Ah, I remember the round bread filled with lots of tuna, and the huge bread with plenty of bacon and diced cheese... Ah, the delicious egg sandwich for 335 yen, the custard Danish with sweet summer oranges and mandarins for 265 yen, and the piroshki for 238 yen. The custard Danish with summer oranges seems to be worth it, right? Putting fresh summer oranges on top and wrapping them in custard at this price seems reasonable! Personally, I'm not a big fan of sweet bread in general, so I'm not sure if I'll buy it again, but objectively speaking, I think other types of bread with fruit toppings are also recommended. As for the egg sandwich, it seems to be made with a healthy approach, either by not using mayonnaise or using very little, making it a bit dry. It can't be like that, right? The round bread filled with lots of tuna that I like must have used mayonnaise, right?

It's been a while since my last visit! I bought lunch. It's easy to get there by car as there is a parking lot along the national highway.
- Shrimp Cutlet Tartare: The crispy shrimp cutlet goes well with the tartare sauce and bread, very delicious.
- Gratin Bread: I thought there wouldn't be much filling inside, but I was pleasantly surprised to find it filled with plenty of ingredients. It was delicious.
- Cream Bread: The rich custard cream goes well with the bread, very delicious.

Located in Kizugawa, this bakery has some unique illustrations that are quite charming. The bread selection varies throughout the day, so it's best to visit when they have a full range available. The shop is relaxed and not too busy, making it easy to choose your bread leisurely. The illustrations in the shop are quirky, with a mischievous child character. They even have a display of a blue train inside the shop, adding to the unusual charm. I ended up purchasing a curry donut, walnut bread, and cream bread. The curry donut had a mild curry flavor and was popular, but not particularly distinctive. The walnut bread had a good mix of walnuts, raisins, and cranberries, with a slightly firm texture. Overall, the bread was tasty but not particularly unique. It might be better to visit when they have a wider selection available.

An old man visited a bakery near Kizu Station called "Pan au Seigle," which is known for its delicious bread. He had visited the shop twice before and was impressed by the tasty bread each time. This time, he tried the melon bread and peanut butter bread. The melon bread had a crunchy cookie-like outer layer that he really enjoyed. He prefers this texture over a soft one. As for the peanut butter bread, it had a rich and delicious peanut butter flavor. Despite the high calories, he really liked it. Overall, he found the bakery to be just as delicious as before and recommended others to give it a try.

I have passed by the shop many times, and I finally had the chance to visit this bakery that has always caught my attention. Here are the items I tried:
- Premium Dream Wheat Bread: ¥410
Made with a wheat variety called "Dream Wheat," known for its chewy texture and slight sweetness. The bread was soft all the way to the crust, with a fine texture and a chewy consistency. It wasn't particularly sweet, but as you chewed, you could sense a subtle sweetness, maybe from the wheat itself. It was delicious both as is and toasted.
- Round Pizza: ¥270
Topped with tomatoes, bacon, and cheese, this simple yet delicious pizza had a crispy and fluffy crust that really made a difference.
- Double Berry Bread: ¥240
Featuring blueberries and what I think was raspberries, the bread wrapped around the berries' flavors beautifully. The combination of the berries and the bread was a delight.
- Ground Pork Sausage Roll: ¥240
The sausage was juicy and had a nice snap to it, and the generous amount of cheese was a pleasant surprise.
- Curry Donut: ¥210
The curry was moderately spicy and tasty, although it was a bit oily. It was a unique and flavorful treat.
- Fresh Cream Fruit Sandwich: ¥450
Filled with strawberries, kiwi, mandarins, and possibly muscat grapes, the not-too-sweet fresh cream allowed the individual flavors of the fruits to shine. The bread was soft and delicious, complementing the fruits perfectly.
Overall, the bread was delicious, and I also had the chance to admire the impressive electric locomotive inside the shop up close. It was huge and magnificent, exuding a sense of power. I may not be a train enthusiast, but I can see why it would be fascinating for those who are. A great meal and a unique experience. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

JR Kizu Station is located nearby. This is the popular bakery "Pan au Segur". The store is known for displaying the head of the electric locomotive EF66. I visited on a Saturday for lunch around 11 am. The place was moderately crowded with customers. The bakery is located along Route 24 near Kizu Station, on a lane heading south. The small brick building is easy to spot, and you can see the EF66 from the large windows outside. There is a parking lot on the south side of the store, although it may be a bit tight. Inside, a variety of freshly baked bread is displayed. The second floor is an eat-in space, but it is currently closed due to infection prevention measures. The staff are friendly and polite. On this day, I purchased the following items:
- Ebi Mayo Cheddar (230 yen): The bread is chewy with a crispy outer layer, including cheese. It has a satisfying texture with a large shrimp cutlet topping. The combination of the shrimp's umami, chewy texture, and the rich flavor of cheddar cheese creates an exquisite taste.
- Hawaiian Potchi & Spicy Bacon (220 yen): This is a limited-time item featuring Hawaiian Potchi, a popular sausage from Ohyama Ham. The pizza-style bread is fluffy, with juicy bacon and Hawaiian Potchi. Both are rich in fat, especially the Potchi with its intense flavor. The strong spices add an exciting twist to the taste. This bread is perfect for those who enjoy bold flavors.
The bread at this shop has a great texture and generous toppings, providing high satisfaction. I look forward to visiting again in the future.

Last time, my wife bought the "Shoulder Bacon Cheese!" toast and it was so delicious that I had to stop by to try it. However, it wasn't available in the store yet. So, I decided to buy just the "Curry Bread." But as I looked around one last time, I noticed they had "Whole Wheat Bread" available. I also really liked the taste of this bread when toasted. So, I ended up purchasing the Whole Wheat Bread and the Curry Bread. I immediately tried the Curry Bread and found the bread to be soft and delicious. The Whole Wheat Bread has a nice, not too overpowering, nutty flavor when eaten as is, and when toasted, it brings out the taste of the margarine. It's a different taste experience compared to regular bread. Thank you for the delicious meal!

I came to Kitsu for lunch. Since I rarely come to this area, I decided to research for a good dessert and bread shop to visit after eating. I quickly found this highly rated shop. There is a parking lot behind the shop, and although there is no line, there is a lot of traffic going in and out, indicating that many people stop by. The shop is not very large, but there are over 50 types of bread lined up. It's difficult to choose just because there are so many unique options. I bought some for myself and my family.
- Orange Fig Cream Cheese: As the name suggests, you can imagine the taste, but the key is that it contains orange and fig. The combination of cream cheese with either orange or fig is common, but having both is unique. The fig is placed in the middle, so you have to share it when dividing. It had a sweet taste from the dried figs and a refreshing taste from the orange and cream cheese.
- Shrimp Mayo Cheddar: A combination of shrimp cutlet and cheddar cheese. It seems like something you would find in a hamburger, but it's rare for bread. I chose it because I hadn't eaten shrimp cutlet in a long time. It's a delicious bread with high-quality ingredients. It's interesting to see that Kyoto, one of the top consumers of bread in Japan, has its influence spread to places like this.

"Pan au Seigle" is a bakery located near JR Kizu Station. The shop is known for its display of the head of the electric locomotive EF66. I visited on a holiday to buy some lunch bread. The bakery is located along Route 24, heading south from Kyoto towards Nara. The exterior is in a Western-style brick design, making it easy to spot, and you can see the EF66 locomotive through large windows from outside. There is also a parking lot on the south side of the shop. Inside, there is a wide variety of freshly baked bread. The second floor is an eat-in space, but it has been closed for a while due to the pandemic. The shop is usually crowded, but it was less busy on the day of my visit. I purchased the following items:
- Sausage Mustard Bread (260 yen): A Danish-style bread with a crispy texture, filled with coarse ground pork sausage seasoned with mustard and mayonnaise. The mustard sauce was mild in spiciness, making it easy to eat, and the crispy bread texture was pleasant, making it a satisfying snack.
- Salmon Sandwich (380 yen): A sandwich made with salmon fry. The unique chewy texture of the bread was very pleasant, and the salmon fry was large and crispy, with a classic salad and tartar sauce seasoning, making it a highly satisfying dish.
It had been a while since I visited Pan au Seigle, but I enjoyed the great texture of the bread and was able to savor each item. I look forward to visiting again in the future.
