"Free-range chicken fragrant deep-fried ¥1600, Black vinegar sweet and sour pork ¥1480 (photo is for 2 servings), Gyoza ¥650, Tanba Jidori chicken and Kujo green onion hot pot noodles ¥1480. Finally went back after two years. Avoided dishes like mapo tofu, xiaolongbao, and tantanmen that I had tried before, and ordered the sweet and sour pork that I missed last time as the main dish along with other items that caught my eye. The fragrant deep-fried chicken was very voluminous, almost like half a chicken, and it was crispy with little fat so I didn't get tired of eating it. The sweet and sour pork was delicious, but the vinegar was milder than I expected, personally I wanted a bit more sourness! The meat was without batter. There was a lot of meat, but I wished there were more vegetables... The gyoza was on the lighter side. It didn't have much garlic flavor, but the filling was packed well and the skin was just right, not too thick, and very delicious!! I usually prefer gyoza with a strong garlic flavor, but this was the first time I enjoyed a light gyoza so much. Personally, the most delicious dish was the hot pot noodle with Tanba Jidori chicken and Kujo green onion. The soup was very flavorful with a light taste, and there was plenty of chicken and green onions, it was incredibly delicious, the best (;;) Everything was really delicious. But if I go again, I want to try the seafood okoge hot pot!"

Located just a 2-minute walk from Kitano Hakubaicho Station, this restaurant is a convenient spot for a solo dinner. Although I had visited for lunch before, this was my first time dining here for dinner. I didn't make a reservation, but it seemed like it would be a good idea to do so as the place had a nice atmosphere. I ordered the pan-fried dumplings (6 pieces) for 650 yen and the classic black vinegar pork dish for 1480 yen. The black vinegar pork arrived in about 3 minutes, with a meat-heavy dish and fewer vegetables. The flavor was mild and suitable for children as well. The dumplings were made in-house and packed with filling, but had a light finish. I wish there were set menus available to try a variety of dishes as there were many other items I wanted to try. I would like to revisit if I have the chance.

I was invited by an acquaintance to visit a restaurant that I had been curious about for a while. The ambiance and atmosphere of the restaurant were great, and I was excited even before starting to eat. I ordered the crab omelette, sea urchin tofu, shrimp chili, and shrimp mayo, as well as the staff's recommended seasonal fish dish (flounder stir-fry) which was amazing! I also ordered the seasonal vegetable dish (fried eggplant). The crab omelette had a wonderful salty taste with shrimp inside, making me feel like I got a great deal! The sea urchin tofu was similar to mapo tofu but without the spiciness, with a refined taste of sea urchin. It had plenty of sea urchin inside, and I will definitely order it again! The shrimp chili looked simple but had a fantastic umami flavor once eaten. The shrimp mayo was the best dish I ordered this time! The dumplings were simply delicious. I also ordered steamed chicken as an addition, which was simple and tasty, but it had a strong taste of scallion oil. The almond tofu for dessert was rich and will definitely be a repeat order! The mango pudding had a sour taste at first bite, but as I continued to eat, the sweetness came through, and by the end, it was delicious! Overall, I felt that the Chinese cuisine at this restaurant focuses on bringing out the natural flavors of the ingredients with simple seasoning. I felt confident recommending this place to my acquaintances. There are still many dishes I want to try, so I will definitely visit again soon.

I went to a popular Chinese restaurant in town. I was looking forward to it as it had a good reputation. It was my first time, so I tried a variety of dishes. The spicy bang bang chicken was delicious, but the chicken was a bit tough. The simple stir-fried pea shoots were incredibly tasty. The spring rolls, chive dumplings, and soup dumplings were all delicious, although not particularly unique. The fried chicken was also tasty. The stir-fried meat and mushrooms had good quality meat and were excellent. The large shrimp chili, shark fin fried rice, seafood fried rice, sesame balls, almond jelly, everything was delicious. There were two mistakes in the order (we received a different amount than what was ordered). Since the staff seemed busy, we just accepted it. However, the extra dishes were also delicious, so we were very satisfied. I will definitely go back again.

I called on the same day and Hakurakuka was fully booked at 6:00. The counter seats with a view of the kitchen were busy, and the chefs were skillfully cooking meat, fish, noodles, matsutake mushrooms, and xiaolongbao. I always struggle with what to order, but this time the number of dishes was just right.

A restaurant that has been selected for the Michelin Bib Gourmand. The appetizer assortment is kind as they ask for your preferences. The jellyfish salad has a nice crunchy texture and is delicious. Everything is tasty overall, but I recommend the stir-fried fermented cabbage and glass noodles. The fermented vegetables and acidity go well with red wine. The mapo tofu and beef and tomato ramen have a slight sweetness but are not overpowering, showcasing the unique flavor of the restaurant. The service is attentive, and the drinks are reasonably priced, making it a place you'll want to visit again.

Located about a 5-minute walk from Kitano Hakubaicho Station, "Hakurakuya Jousai" is a restaurant highly praised by gourmet celebrities. I visited to deepen my knowledge of Chinese cuisine in Kyoto. I called the day before and was told that visiting between 17:00 and 18:20 on a Saturday was okay, so I visited alone. I arrived early at 16:50, as the "open" sign was already out. Each dish had a refined yet substantial taste typical of Kyoto's Chinese cuisine. The dishes were light on oil and had a refreshing aftertaste, making them all outstanding. It's truly enviable to have such a wonderful Chinese restaurant nearby!
<Menu items received this time>
Shrimp Spring Rolls
Thin spring rolls typical of Kyoto's Chinese cuisine, with a robust shrimp flavor and a light aftertaste.
Dried Scallop and Daikon Soup
Thinly sliced daikon with a subtle scallop flavor. A comforting dish.
Crispy Chicken (Specialty)
Chinese-style roast chicken with complex spices that release a rich flavor with each bite. An elegantly exquisite dish.
Seafood Fried Rice
Moist and fluffy fried rice with a perfect balance of saltiness, umami, and oil. Flawless.
Almond Tofu with Aged 10-Year Madeira Wine
A combination of 10-year-aged Madeira wine and almond tofu. The deep bitterness and rich aroma of the wine enhance the sweetness and fragrance of the almond tofu. A surprising combination.

Delicious, not too spicy, not too oily, not too hot, not too sour, just right. Suitable for children too. The aroma is also good. Mapo tofu with mild spiciness is also available. Looking forward to trying the steamed fish and crispy fried fish. Fun menu.

It was very lively, with families and couples all looking happy. I felt it was a good restaurant before eating. They provided plastic plates and forks for children, which gave a homely feel. The staff, although busy, were very polite and the dishes that came out were authentic and smelled great. There was an amazing restaurant here. Thank you for the meal. A spacious table opened up, so please come this way. The people and the food here are top-notch. This place is amazing.

The jellyfish and cucumber salad I had at the beginning was so delicious that my expectations were high. Of course, everything else after that was also delicious. Since there were many people that day, we had a private room to relax in. The dishes that left an impression on me were the oil-splashed chicken and Peking duck. I wanted to keep eating them forever... but I have a small appetite. There were many people and everyone was a big eater, so we were able to enjoy a variety of dishes.

I happened to come across this place and decided to visit for lunch. Even though it was before opening hours, there were already a lot of people gathered around the restaurant. It must be popular. The quality of the dishes seemed high in the photos, so I was curious. When I entered, I saw that there were table seats and counter seats facing the kitchen. The counter seats were almost like a wall, so even if you are dining alone, you can feel comfortable. Looking at the menu, I couldn't decide what to order. I wanted to try the mapo tofu and the fried rice. I ended up getting the mapo tofu as part of the lunch set and the fried rice as a standalone dish. The lunch set was already quite filling, but I couldn't resist the fried rice. It was a generous portion, probably around two servings. It was delicious, and I managed to finish it all. The dumplings with thick, chewy skin that came with the set also filled me up, but they were tasty. I look forward to trying something different next time, although I might have trouble deciding again. Thank you for the meal.

#Kyoto "Hakuraku-ya Jousai" / Kitano Shirakumemachi - This time, Nakamaro visited the famous Chinese restaurant "Hakuraku-ya Jousai". As the name "Jousai" suggests, this restaurant offers Chinese home cooking, with a chef from Jilin province showcasing his skills. They have even received a Michelin Bib Gourmand award for their delicious dishes. The restaurant has a calm atmosphere with both table and counter seats, and it seems to attract slightly older customers compared to younger ones. It feels like a place where university students can enjoy a more mature dining experience. The "Mouth-Watering Chicken" dish costs 1000 yen and uses steamed black-bone chicken with Sichuan-style spicy sauce, accompanied by Sichuan pepper and coriander. The taste was unbelievably delicious! The aroma of the spices, especially the Sichuan pepper and coriander, was amazing. The meat was very tender, showing the chef's dedication to cooking. The addition of nuts added a nice texture and the spiciness was just right. This dish was seriously delicious. Dinner on Saturday, January 18th was at "Chinese Cuisine Hakuraku Kajosai" in Kitano Hakubaicho, Kyoto. This restaurant is featured in the Michelin Guide's "Bib Gourmand" section, and as the name suggests, it offers authentic Chinese home-cooked dishes. I had been curious about this place for a while, and luckily I was invited to a Facebook event and got to attend. The restaurant is about a 5-minute walk from Randen Kitano Hakubaicho Station, and we had a course meal with drinks included for a party of 28 people. We started with a toast with bottled beer and then enjoyed various drinks throughout the evening. I particularly enjoyed the crab xiaolongbao, pickled cabbage hot pot with pork, stir-fried kai-lan, dried shrimp, fried rice, and almond tofu for dessert. Everything was delicious, fun, and very satisfying!

(※Visited in 2019) Located in a residential area just a short walk from Kitano Hakubaicho Station in Kyoto. Recommended by a friend as "delicious," this restaurant may not be flashy but is solidly praised. The flavors are refined and elegant, typical of Kyoto cuisine, with a subtle yet rich taste that brings out the umami. It's not your typical "Ho'omai-style" cuisine, but rather original. It's hard to think of a similar restaurant in the area. The delicious food here is reasonably priced, with dishes typically around 1,000 yen each, so there's no need to worry about the cost. I believe the combination of this taste and price offers great value.

On Sunday night, we made a last-minute reservation and went as a party of two. There are counter seats, table seats, and even a second floor in the restaurant. The interior has a cozy atmosphere with a vibe of authentic Chinese cuisine. We tried their famous roast chicken in half portion. The chicken was moist and the skin and bones were crispy and flavorful. The stir-fried water spinach was crunchy and piping hot, satisfyingly delicious! The pan-fried dumplings were juicy, hot, and had a strong presence. They may look like ordinary dumplings, but the taste was quite authentic. The eggplant and pork stir-fry was a sweet and savory dish with a bold and delicious flavor. The oil used in the dishes was very tasty but not overwhelming, and did not leave us feeling heavy. We would love to visit again, but making a reservation is a must. There are about three parking spots secured about 50 meters to the west of the restaurant. Thank you for the delicious meal.
