After finishing my regular body maintenance, I went to a junky Yokohama-style ramen chain in Sugamo for lunch this week. I ordered the rich pork bone ramen SP in regular size with unlimited rice. The ramen arrived in about 5 minutes, and it was a fantastic bowl of house-style ramen with piping hot soup. The soup didn't have the typical pork bone smell, so I believe it was brought in from a central kitchen, but it was stable and nice and hot. The noodles were chewy and slightly firm, cooked just right for my taste, with a hint of sweetness that paired well with the soup. The restaurant offers unlimited rice service, with various side dishes like pickles, 5 sheets of seaweed, 2 slices of chashu, and even rice porridge with the leftover soup. It's a carb lover's paradise. Thank you for the delicious meal.

I ordered the soy sauce tonkotsu ramen (800 yen including tax, free extra noodles) at this place. It's a type of ramen that is known for its rich and flavorful broth. The noodles are medium thickness and go well with the soup. The chashu (roast pork) is always tender and delicious, one of the best I've had at a ramen shop. They also offer free rice and two types of pickles all day, which is a nice bonus. The rice is nothing special, but it's free so can't complain. Recently, there have been some changes like a price increase on special service days every 10 days and then discontinuing it shortly after, which is disappointing. I hope they bring it back! They used to offer a service ticket for a free month of ramen if you finish your bowl, and they have a point card system as well. Overall, the cost performance is good compared to other ramen shops because of the free rice and other perks. However, due to the recent changes, I don't visit as often as I used to. I now go to other places like Machida Shouten, Yamagoya, and Shinagawa-ke depending on my mood.

*First Visit in May 2023* (2023 = 91st visit/33 new shops) This place is located near Sugamo Station. Originally, I planned to visit another shop nearby, but for some reason, it was closed even though it was supposed to be open... So, I decided to visit this place instead to not waste the parking fee. This place seems to be in the Kenko ramen style. I arrived around 3:30 PM. The ramen costs 800 yen, and I added extra seaweed for 100 yen. I requested the noodles to be firm. Rice was self-service and free all day, but I didn't have any. The interior has a counter with 13 seats and 3 tables for 4 people each. There were 2 customers before me and 2 after me. The shop was managed by a man and a woman of continental descent. The kitchen is located at the far end of the shop, so you can't see inside. They were boiling the noodles in Tebo containers. I wonder if they use Asou noodles for this series? I waited for about 5-6 minutes before the ramen was served. The server placed the bowl without saying anything, haha. First, the soup. It's a tonkotsu-based style. The soup has a layer of oil on top, but it doesn't have a chicken oil aroma. It's not greasy like lard... it's hard to describe. The soup is light with a layer of oil, initially tasting a bit thin. Even after mixing well, the tonkotsu flavor is weak. It's creamy with some sweetness. It feels like they slightly diluted the taste of a traditional shop's soup. The soy sauce flavor is also subtle. It might be better with a stronger taste. The noodles are medium thickness and quite long. They have a slight wavy texture. The noodles are cooked to a medium firmness. They are smooth with a bit of chewiness left, making them easy to slurp. I had the impression that Asou noodles in this series were lower in hydration and had a rougher texture, but maybe they changed it? Since the soup is light, the noodles stood out more. The chashu is not too big but has some thickness. It has a fairly firm texture and a strong seasoning. The spinach portion was small. The texture is not bad, but the taste is lacking. I added 8 extra seaweed sheets. The extra seaweed costs 100 yen for 5 sheets. The size is a bit small, with a coarse appearance and a slightly soft texture. Even when soaked in the soup, it was relatively strong but lacked flavor. The garnish of leeks was pre-cut and a suitable amount. The green part adds a bit of sharpness and spiciness, making it a good garnish. Overall, the ramen was a bit thin. The staff wasn't very friendly, and the service was mediocre. Thank you for the meal. [Seaweed Rating = 3.0] ・Cost Performance = 3.0 @20 ・Size = 2.5 ・Thickness = 3.0 ・Strength = 3.5 ・Flavor = 3.0

During my work break, I couldn't resist and dove into the restaurant. It's conveniently located near the station, standing out from the intersection, so my craving intensified. I ordered the usual with firm noodles, less oil, and regular seasoning. Despite being a ramen shop, this place is surprisingly mellow. The flavor is soft and not overpowering, making it very easy to eat! I also love that they offer free rice refills all day long! Am I the only one who thinks that ramen broth goes incredibly well with rice?

Near Sugamo Station, I had a quick meal at a house-style ramen shop. ◼️The shop has a traditional Japanese atmosphere with a slight chain restaurant vibe. There are mostly counter seats, but there are also box seats available. ◼️The staff were friendly, with a slight Asian accent in their speech. ◼️It was moderately crowded, with about 60% of the seats filled around 1 pm on a weekday. ◼️The customers were mostly male. ◼️The menu had various options like soy sauce, miso, salt, spicy miso, and tsukemen. They also had Chinese noodles. ◼️They offered drinks like draft beer and highball. ◼️The price for the tonkotsu ramen was 760 yen. ◼️They provided complimentary rice. ◼️The food was served in about 5 minutes. Review: The tonkotsu ramen with soy sauce was decent. The soup had a bit more oil, but it was smooth and not too strong in flavor. You could taste the soy sauce in the smooth broth. The noodles were chewy and satisfying. The simple and tasty chashu was a highlight. Overall, it was a delicious and reasonably priced house-style ramen. The free rice was a nice touch. I would recommend it for a filling and satisfying meal. Rating from when the review was posted on Tabelog: 3.22 Number of reviews at the time: 67 Number of saves at the time: 670

I drank a little in Asakusa and wandered along the Sumida River. Someone had mentioned "I want to eat ramen!" which stuck in my mind. On the way back from Sugamo Station, instead of my usual routine of stopping at Yoshinoya, I ended up going to "Sugamo-ya" on the other side of Shirokane Street. It was my first time there. I had the image of the tantanmen at "Hidakaya" just a little further ahead, but it had just closed. There was a sign on the entrance door saying "All-day rice buffet" and "On the 10th, 20th, and 30th of each month, Shoyu Ramen or Salt Ramen for 600 yen." I tried to remember what day it was today. In the end, I bought a 760 yen ticket for the Shoyu Ramen and was guided to the counter by the staff. The seat next to me still had dishes left on it. It felt like I waited quite a bit. The ramen arrived. The noodles were thick and satisfying to eat. The soup was either soy sauce, tonkotsu, or a mix of both, but it tasted delicious. The dishes next to me were cleared and a new customer sat down. They stood up straight and went somewhere, so I followed their gaze to see a large rice cooker where they were scooping rice into a bowl. "Oh! So that's the all-day rice buffet!" I marveled in my drunken state. As I crossed by, I glanced and saw that there were pickled radishes and pickled vegetables available too. White rice alone didn't appeal to me much, but with pickles, my appetite was suddenly piqued. I thought there was a picture of umeboshi on the wall for squeezing out saliva for a PCR test. Thank you for the meal!

Stable ramen from a well-established family-owned restaurant. Free rice available 24 hours, which is much appreciated. They also offer pickles as a side dish for the rice. Some people might come here just for the rice with slightly less water, it's that good. The rice is delicious. Of course, the ramen is also stable. I ordered it with spinach topping and added a bit of ginger and garlic after eating some. Then I added sesame seeds, grating them enough to cover the surface with sesame goodness. You can customize it to your liking, that's what makes it a true family-owned ramen shop.

We are open until 2 a.m., so we stopped by for a late-night meal after drinking. The name of the restaurant is "Sugamo-ya," located in Sugamo, of course. I ordered the Tonkotsu Shoyu SP with cabbage topping. (I was drunk and don't remember, so judging by the photo, haha) Late-night ramen really hit the spot for this drunk body. Ramen shops open until late at night are rare. It's really fortunate to have a shop in Sugamo that is open until 2 a.m. Honestly, I don't remember the taste very well. I would like to visit again during the day to savor it properly next time.

I always rely on Sugamo-ya for my meals. In addition to all-you-can-eat rice, you can accumulate points on a card to get free toppings or ramen. There are more varieties of pickles to eat with the rice, which makes me even more satisfied.

This is "Sugamo-ya" near Sugamo Station. Last week, I went to the Jiro-style "Buta Arashi", so this time I went for the "Iekei" style. Jiro-style and Iekei-style ramen are something I crave in a certain cycle. Today's review: "Tonkotsu Shoyu SP" (900 yen). This "SP version" has extra chashu, seasoned egg, and nori. I ordered the oil level as normal, flavor as strong, and noodles as soft. Normally, I don't think rice goes well with ramen. But with tonkotsu ramen, especially with extra nori, it's a perfect match. I like my noodles on the softer side, which goes well with the rich soup. Adding garlic halfway through enhances the flavor of the tonkotsu soup. Spinach, for some reason, becomes a special ingredient in tonkotsu ramen. Some may have strict opinions about this shop's tonkotsu ramen, but I found it to be decent. With that thought, I left the shop. Lastly, a random thought: During the COVID-19 prevention period, there are apparently places where you can and cannot drink alcohol. When I asked the beautiful female staff, she said it's currently a no-go. When you're told not to do something, you tend to want to do it even more. That's human nature. Thanks for the meal. P.S. In the past, during my salaryman days, I was featured in a popular "pachinko magazine". There was a machine I got hooked on called "Super Combo SP", and even now, my brain sometimes reacts to the [SP] letters. It's a true story that sounds like a lie.

Second time at this restaurant. Last time I sat at a table, but this time I chose a counter seat by the window. I can see the street well from here. I can take my time and relax. This time I ordered the Char Siu Shio ramen and added garlic, which made the flavor richer. The toppings like menma and spinach are typical of this style of ramen. I asked for the flavor to be normal. This is a casual and easy-to-use restaurant. Rice is free to refill, but as an elderly person, it doesn't really apply to me. I didn't notice last time, but the staff were chatting in Chinese. It adds to the atmosphere.

Under the state of emergency, I came to satisfy my hunger after attending a meeting in Sugamo. I ordered the Tonkotsu Chashu for 960 yen using the touch panel. Since it was my first time, I ordered the soy sauce flavor as usual. Unfortunately, beer was sold out due to the "ban on alcohol." It's a shame. It feels like there are more "orders" that are not legally binding, like the "self-restraint order," in the Reiwa era. Beer is essential for enjoyment, so I decided to skip the gyoza. I ended up sitting at one of the three tables, which made me feel a bit uncomfortable. I should have chosen a counter seat after all, but the staff didn't say anything, so I stayed put. Being right near the station, the place was constantly bustling with customers. The serving time felt a bit slow, but the soup was rich and flavorful. The noodles were thick and straight. The characteristic seaweed and spinach of the house style were present, as expected. The chashu was tender and delicious. I realized later that I forgot to order garlic. There was no refill for the table's water pot. However, the menu seems to offer a variety of options, so I look forward to enjoying it next time.

Ramen soy sauce (700) and gyoza (200) are all-you-can-eat all day long. It's great that you can have gyoza with it for under 1000 yen. The normal ramen is still the best. It's great that they are open late. Nori and garlic are a must for a home-style ramen, right? I received a ticket for half off the food and drink bill, so next time I can eat ramen for half price.

After the last train, I rushed into this temple-like eatery \(^o^)/. The place doesn't give off a sense of cleanliness, maybe because the counter and condiments are all sticky. And there's this unpleasant smell of pork bone broth lingering in the air. The ramen lacks depth in flavor, almost like the soup from a wholesale store might taste better.

Dan dan noodles (760) and dumplings (200). I already knew that the house-style dan dan noodles weren't going to be delicious. The reason for defeat was curiosity! The ground meat was ice cold, which I found strange. The spiciness wasn't that strong. The tables, condiments, and floors were sticky.

I'm usually skeptical of ramen shops that use the name of a town in their name, but I didn't have much time so I decided to give this place a try. The soup looked oily, but surprisingly it was refreshing when I tried it. The broth was decent, although it didn't have a lot of depth. The noodles were also unique and tasty, being flat instead of the usual curly noodles in a typical ramen shop. Overall, it's a passable option if you're short on time.

Around midnight, feeling really hungry after walking quite a bit, I decided to visit this place. Even at that time, the restaurant was quite crowded. I had trouble deciding at the ticket machine, as there were various menu options besides the house-style ramen. However, judging from the name of the restaurant, I had to go with the house-style ramen. I opted for less oil and a lighter flavor. The ramen arrived in about 3 minutes. It had thick, firm noodles with three sheets of seaweed and spinach. Rice was available for free, but I resisted the temptation. House-style ramen itself is like a meal with the soup. I noticed garlic at the counter, so I couldn't resist adding some. It definitely made the ramen even more delicious. I felt a slight sense of guilt on my way back home (laughs).

Tomorrow's work is looming, so I stayed in Sugamo today. Sugamo is famous for the Togenuki Jizo statue, known as the god of longevity. I made sure to pray for being able to continue eating delicious ramen. On my way back, a smiling old lady recommended I try the sweet bean paste-filled rice cake, which was delicious but really sweet. After eating something sweet, I felt like having some hearty ramen, as expected! (I don't know why) With that in mind, I head to Sugamo-ya. The location is great, right near the station. As I approach the shop, I see two customers buying tickets from the machine, and the place is about 80% full inside. It's not even 5 pm yet, but it's quite crowded! The ticket machine here is a bit inconvenient, located to the left as soon as you enter, making it difficult for customers to come in and out while others are purchasing tickets. Everyone waiting is outside! It's a bit annoying on rainy days. Inside, I order the Negi Ramen. I want to eat a Negi (green onion) bowl. Surely, the ducks in Sugamo, after which the area was named, must have liked Negi too. (I don't know why, again) I ordered the regular size! Yes, regular size is enough here. Because rice is all-you-can-eat. No, that's not the right way to put it. You can eat as much as you want. The people around me already have heaps of rice before the ramen even arrives. Even Kyu-chan is ready, fully prepared to eat! It's like Jackie Chan's style of provocation, beckoning with just the tip of one finger. Yes, this posture of everyone waiting with rice in hand. This is ONE TEAM! (Sorry, I don't know why, for the third time) I also have rice @ Kyu-chan. In no time, the ramen is served. The Negi looks great. The conclusion is, I'm full. It's definitely a hearty bowl of ramen. I secretly had a second helping of rice. Or rather, I was too focused on the rice that I don't really remember the taste of the ramen (laughs). The guy next to me was eating Taiwan ramen, and it looked spicy. Everyone was earnestly eating their rice, which left an impression on me. They use domestically produced rice, it said. Will I go again? Maybe. If it's not crowded, I'll definitely go in. Just to confirm the taste of the ramen (sweat).

Attracted by the free rice offer, I entered the restaurant. I was not shown to a table, perhaps because it was a quiet time, so I decided to sit at the counter. I chose the Taiwanese ramen today. It was just the right level of spiciness to warm me up, and the rice was a great addition. This is the kind of place to go when you want a hearty meal with rice included. Actually, since the rice is self-service, I felt that it would be nice if the staff could give a shout-out to let customers know.

During work, I stumbled into a ramen shop at lunchtime. Seeking excitement, I ordered the habanero miso ramen. It took about 8 minutes to arrive. I thought it would be too spicy, so I added extra spinach. Surprisingly, it wasn't as spicy as I expected... I added ginger and homemade spicy sauce to spice it up. The noodles were thick and chewy. It's a shame that I didn't get the excitement I was looking for. Four young men who were already inside all ordered salt ramen. Maybe the salt ramen was popular. It was good that it came with three large sheets of seaweed. Rice was apparently all-you-can-eat, so everyone was eating the seaweed with rice. I was full. Thank you for the meal!
