There seems to be a festival held every year at Kitami Station. Despite the size of the area, quite a number of customers gather for the festival. There are food stalls, but it's also nice to buy various foods at the nearby Summit store. I bought sushi. The slices of fish were large, had a slight richness, good texture, and surprisingly delicious taste for supermarket sushi. The yakisoba was also well-seasoned. The Summit store is not to be underestimated!

There is a supermarket near Kitami Station. There is also a Gyomu Super nearby, but in terms of general supermarkets, Summit is the only one in Kitami. Inside this Summit, if you take the escalator down to the basement, you will find the sales floor. Turning left from there, you will find the snack section. One of Summit's 100 yen snack series is the "Mini Donuts." These are bite-sized donuts with a fluffy texture. They are coated with sugar on the outside, giving them a sugary taste.

On a certain Sunday afternoon in February 2017, at X:XX, I stopped by alone to look for something to have for dinner at home. This Summit store is very convenient as it is right in front of Odakyu Line Kitami Station. What caught my eye at that time was the "Chinese bowl with the umami flavor of 8 ingredients" (398 yen for the main dish). The reason for this is simple for a commoner like me, because there was a sticker that said "100 yen off the displayed price of 398 yen". I bought this "Chinese bowl with the umami flavor of 8 ingredients" out of such motivation, but it was delicious! The ingredients, especially the squid, were plentiful and that was great.

On a certain weekday afternoon in November 2016, I stopped by alone to pick out dinner for the day. This Summit is located right in front of Odakyu Line Kitami Station. It's just a few seconds walk from the ticket gate. The bento corner had a variety of bento boxes lined up, and I was really spoiled for choice. I decided to try the "Onigiri Bento" (priced at 298 yen). This onigiri bento includes one red salmon onigiri and one seaweed onigiri, along with a boiled egg, sausage, chikuwa isobeage, croquette, and various side dishes. What stood out was the deliciousness of the onigiri. The rice was fluffy and soft and tasted great!

On Saturday, a flyer in the Setagaya area announced that Oginoya's "Kamameshi" would be sold in limited quantities at Summit in Yokogawa. This popular item tends to sell out quickly at events like station bento fairs. The writer had a previous experience of missing out on it when they went out with their family. Their eldest son is only one and a half years old, so it's difficult for them to go out whenever they want. If he starts to fuss right before they leave, it's game over, and if he rubs his sleepy eyes, it's a sign that he's ready to sleep. However, Oginoya's "Kamameshi" is a favorite of the writer's wife. The writer feels sad when she says, "It's a shame, but it can't be helped." As the wife's freedom is limited due to childcare, the writer wants to fulfill her wishes as much as possible. So, he decides to run to the store to get the Kamameshi for her. After a breathless run, he successfully secures three Kamameshi boxes and delivers one to his mother-in-law nearby. When he returns home, his wife is happy to see the Kamameshi. It turns out to be a good Saturday after all.

It's not just because of the pandemic, but due to lack of exercise, I decided to go for a walk alone, as I had thrown away the leotard and leg warmers I bought to match Olivia Newton-John. I bought two chu-hi drinks and yakitori at the Summit store in front of the station for a picnic. I headed to the Odakyu Line's car depot in Kitami, where the rooftop of the garage is turned into a park. Of course, I didn't go empty-handed for the picnic, so I relaxed at the gazebo in the park. There were many regulars enjoying the park on a weekday afternoon: 1) a man lying on the grass reading a book, 2) an older man reading what looked like an erotic manga on a shady bench, 3) a beautiful woman doing some mysterious exercise, 4) a group of moms chatting while letting their kids play on the playground, and 5) a bald man (me) eating yakitori with a chu-hi in hand. There were cylindrical wooden pieces lined up on the ground (with angled cuts and numbering) and people were repeating a mysterious motion, throwing the wooden pieces towards them. I didn't understand the rules, but they seemed to be keeping score on a notebook after throwing three times. I didn't know what sport it was, but I was fascinated, especially by their movements.
