I was surprised to hear that Bulldog sauce is popular in Tokyo from a young age, while in the Chugoku region, Otafuku sauce is more common, and in Osaka, Ikari sauce is the mainstream. When it comes to sauce, I often see people on internet forums and social media asking for the source of information from those who make unreliable claims. I have also been guilty of blindly believing information online and presenting it as my own knowledge, but this time I made sure to research properly. I found out that the restaurant name was taken from a passage in Ryunosuke Akutagawa's "Rashomon," which actually means "a doll made of kneaded soil," unlike the restaurant name. Further research revealed that the correct answer was "the mud stuck to the chair fabric from the brick wall was used for the dress of the French doll" on the TV Tokyo show "Asa no! Sanpo Michi" on March 26, 2019. So today's lunch was at #Doro Ningyo, a cafe with an impressive name and equally impressive atmosphere inside. All the menu items looked delicious, but I chose the daily special ginger pork lunch. Some people were already starting a party with beer and appetizers early in the day, perhaps because it was a holiday. The dish that arrived was different from the image of ginger pork I knew, with a wild and vibrant appearance. I started by enjoying the crunchy onion with a sweet and savory flavor, along with the tender and large pieces of meat. Eating it with vegetables doubled the deliciousness, and mixing it with a little ginger sauce was also tasty. The tomato and cucumber with sesame dressing, as well as the fried boiled egg, were also delicious. There was more rice than I had imagined, and I ended up with some leftovers towards the end. Lastly, I mixed the ginger pork sauce with the rice and finished every last bit. The other classic menu items at the cafe also looked appetizing, so I would like to visit again.

Napolitan (tax included 1000 yen), add iced coffee to the lunch set (250 yen). It comes with both fork and spoon, making it easy to eat. The large pieces of onions and green peppers are impressive, providing a solid texture. It includes not only bacon but also Vienna sausages. There are also some shrimp. The tomato sauce and ketchup add acidity, creating a sticky texture. This menu appeared in the TV drama "Wasurenai to Chikako" and there is a poster in front of the cash register.

Napolitan pilaf curry sandwich toast and coffee, tea. Smoking is allowed, which makes me feel the era. I'm not a smoker, but I noticed that old restaurants always had ashtrays. Regular customers would order the "lunch" daily special without saying anything. I felt envious seeing the ashtray being placed without a word. The daily special was ginger pork. I ordered highball spaghetti with iced coffee. The spaghetti had a simple flavor with pickled mustard greens as the only topping, seasoned with a little oil and salt. Pilaf is commonly heard of, but spaghetti also goes well. With a wide variety of menu options, customers won't get bored. It's great for business. Thank you for the meal.

Spaghetti with meat sauce (served with iced coffee, tax included for 1100 yen). It is a menu that includes a drink set service that saves you 100 yen. Both fork and spoon are provided, making it easy to eat. The sauce is rich but also has a hint of acidity, so it doesn't feel heavy. The white thing visible between the sauce and pasta is the white of a fried egg. When flipped over, the other side is the yolk. The iced coffee served in a copper cup looks refreshing. It has a nice bitterness and tastes delicious.

Sendagaya. Walking along the road next to the railway tracks, descending a dimly lit staircase underground, you will find a nostalgic pure coffee shop. With a wide variety of set meals available, it is perfect for when you crave home-cooked flavors or want to relax under soft lighting.

The replacement lunch "Demiglace Sauce Hamburg" (with iced coffee, tax included 1100 yen). The demiglace sauce is rich in flavor and goes well with the densely packed hamburger patty. The generous amount of lettuce is served with mayo, half a boiled egg, cucumber, and tomato with sesame dressing. The leftover demiglace sauce was mixed with the lettuce without wasting any. The iced coffee served in a copper cup also complements the atmosphere of the restaurant.

I went during the day on a regular day. I went down the stairs from the street to enter the restaurant. It has a dim, old-fashioned cafe atmosphere. There were quite a few smokers as smoking was allowed. For non-smokers, it was a bit uncomfortable. The lunch menu includes typical cafe items like omurice and napolitan, priced around 1,000 yen. I ordered the daily special which was the hamburger steak set shown in the photo, priced at 1,000 yen. The hamburger steak had a flavorful demi-glace sauce and tasted better than expected. Personally, I don't think it's worth it to pay 1,000 yen for a lunch in a smoking-permitted environment, so I won't be going back. However, for smokers who enjoy having coffee after a meal, it might be a good place to relax in a calm atmosphere.

The daily lunch special of "Chicken Karaage with Chili Sauce" (including iced coffee, tax included for 1100 yen) was delicious. The generous amount of lettuce was appreciated, and the side dish of cold tofu highlighted the seasonal change. The large pieces of karaage (fried chicken) were flavorful, with a chili sauce containing onions adding a spicy kick. Dipping the lettuce in mayonnaise provided a mild contrast. Overall, it was a dish that offered a variety of enjoyable flavors.

Mixed pilaf set (comes with fried tofu, seaweed miso soup, and coffee for 1100 yen including tax). The price remains the same on holidays as well. The pilaf contains ingredients such as eggs, bacon or ham, green peppers, onions, and others. The vegetables have a slightly charred appearance, giving them a fragrant taste. Despite the light seasoning and appearance, there is a rich flavor. The portion size is generous, leaving me feeling full.

Napa cabbage spaghetti (served with coffee, tax included for 1100 yen). Comes with both a fork and a spoon. Packed with plenty of napa cabbage, giving it a unique richness throughout. Also includes onions, bell peppers, and more. Quite oily. Sprinkling powdered cheese midway through adds a nice touch, enhancing the flavor.

Highly recommended dish: pickled vegetable pilaf (served with coffee, tax included for 1100 yen). The unique aroma and salty flavor of pickled vegetables really stand out. There's also a subtle sweetness from the egg. The texture is light and fluffy. The portion is generous, so you'll feel satisfied. The miso soup comes with tofu, daikon radish, and fried tofu skin. It's best to enjoy it like a soup using a spoon instead of chopsticks. It's eco-friendly and convenient.

This is a shop that I have been going to for at least 10 years. They offer a daily lunch special of ginger pork. It comes with plenty of lettuce. The large pieces of chopped onions are well coated with the sauce, blending nicely with the natural sweetness. Underneath are slices of pork. The aroma of ginger makes the rice very appetizing. A boiled egg with a slightly tangy sesame dressing is a nice palate cleanser. The miso soup contains tofu, fried tofu, and daikon radish. It's a menu that is carefully prepared. Even with a price increase, it's a great deal at 1100 yen with coffee included.

Ingredients scattered clay doll busy and idle Coffee Sakaba Mud doll "Mud Napolitan" Onions, green peppers, and even sausages are boldly sliced in a sense of "What is this... squid?" That's right. Seafood mix is also included, and the mud ketchup-covered Napolitan is truly a remarkable dish. The coffee as well? But surprisingly, a refreshing taste came out. #coffeesakaba mud doll #Sendagaya #Napolitan at a cafe

It was raining on August 18th. I finished my errands in Roppongi around 3 pm. Now it's time for some early drinking. Did I overdo it last night? My health is not the best, but oh well. The weather wasn't great, so I took the train and got off at the National Stadium after two stops. I walked quite a bit towards Sendagaya. I was almost at Meiji Street. I arrived at the restaurant I was aiming for. The sign said it was a cafe restaurant. The atmosphere was more like a coffee shop, with a wider variety of dishes compared to a regular coffee shop. It seemed okay to drink from noon onwards. The menu mainly consisted of main dishes, with a decent selection of alcohol compared to a regular coffee shop. There were also appetizers and side dishes, but the main dishes seemed more reasonably priced. Ordered: - Oolong Highball - Mini Salad The Oolong Highball was just right in terms of strength. The salad was not really mini. It was mainly lettuce with tomatoes and cucumbers. The lettuce was crisp. The tomatoes weren't very fragrant, and the cucumbers had a strong, green taste.

About an 8-minute walk from Sendagaya Station. A bit further from Kitasando. Near the National Noh Theatre. There was a cafe restaurant with a unique name. Originally planning to go to a curry shop nearby where you're not supposed to take pictures of the food, but arrived too early and found the cafe restaurant called Doroninjin already open. It's located in the basement with brick walls, a retro atmosphere, a counter, vintage tables, chairs, posters... What a place! Retro coffee shop lovers will absolutely love this place. It's a retro coffee shop that money can't buy, created through years of operation. The menu includes classic dishes like Napolitan, pilaf, and curry. They also serve alcohol, so maybe it's not just a coffee shop? Coffee is half off when ordered with food. The Napolitan is packed with ingredients and has a nice ketchup flavor. The coffee has a mild taste. I didn't see where it was brewed, but maybe it's a siphon? Regardless, the ambiance here is great. This place is a hidden gem.

I found a somewhat suspicious-looking café about a 5-minute walk from Sendagaya Station! Its name is "Dorodoll," which is quite strange. The impact is too strong! When you go down the stairs to the basement, you'll find a retro space that reminds you of Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean. The café was full of people, like a traditional coffee shop, with salarymen and housewives among others. The tables were a bit low, so my back started to hurt, haha. There were various menu items, but I decided to order the Omurice for 980 yen. About 15 minutes after ordering, the Omurice arrived! It had rich ketchup rice with a perfectly cooked half-boiled egg, giving off a classic retro Omurice vibe! I wish there were a bit more sausages or chicken inside. The taste was decently delicious, and the portion was generous. The café's atmosphere made me feel like I had traveled back to the Showa era, creating a luxurious solo lunch experience. ❤️

Visited a place called "Clay Doll" for a quick bite before experiencing some weaving. It's a retro café with friendly staff and a cozy atmosphere. I ordered the Neapolitan pasta, which was loaded with sausage, bacon, shrimp, squid, large chunks of bell peppers and onions, all generously covered in ketchup. It was delicious!

When heading towards Sendagaya Station, you always pass by a peculiarly named restaurant that catches your eye. The name doesn't seem to have much of an effect on attracting customers, but it definitely leaves a strong impression. Going down into the underground space, you'll find a large area with brick walls and dark wooden furniture. The dim lighting creates a nostalgic atmosphere reminiscent of a famous old-fashioned coffee shop in Jinbocho. The place gives off a vibe more suited for a bar or a classical music-themed cafe rather than a regular coffee shop. I visited during lunchtime while working from home, and barely managed to get a seat. Since there are no single seats, it can be inefficient for solo customers, but it seems to be popular among nearby office workers. The menu mainly consists of daily lunch sets, pasta dishes like Napolitan, and Western-style dishes like pilaf and omurice. I opted for the mixed pilaf, which was average at best. The portion was decent, but it was mostly rice with very few vegetables or meat. The miso soup was served, but there were no chopsticks provided, which was a bit inconvenient. The coffee, on the other hand, was quite good, made with siphons on the counter and served in stylish cups. Overall, the restaurant has a cozy and nostalgic atmosphere, but the food itself was not particularly satisfying.

Qudagaya Doronin. The name of the store really stuck in my mind, and I wanted to visit it someday. I finally had the chance to stop by for the first time. The store is located underground. When you open the door, it feels like stepping into a retro world. I visited during lunchtime and the place was packed. I was guided to the perfect seat right in the middle of the counter, with a great view of the kitchen. I struggled to decide on what to order from the menu, but ended up choosing the daily grilled meat set. The person before me had ordered two servings of the daily grilled meat, so mine was prepared along with theirs. The food arrived faster than I expected. The plate had rice, miso soup, and the grilled meat. The grilled meat had green peppers and onions, with the onions cooked perfectly. They were crispy yet sautéed, creating a delicious flavor. Next time, I think I'll try the Napolitan. Thank you for the meal~.

This is a cafe that has been around for quite some time near my house, but I never paid much attention to it. It was featured on a certain walking TV show, which caught my interest. So, I decided to visit with two friends during lunchtime on a weekday. The restaurant is located underground and when you go down the stairs, the interior is quite spacious. The atmosphere is very retro with old-fashioned tables and chairs. Most of the customers seemed to be people working nearby. I ordered the daily lunch special for ¥900, which was a mix fry (horse mackerel, crab cream croquette, menchi katsu) with rice and miso soup, plus a drink for an additional ¥100. My friends ordered the highball pilaf (with miso soup) + ¥100 for a drink, and the meat sauce + ¥100 for a drink. The fry was clearly made from frozen food, but it was a comforting lunch. My friends also enjoyed the nostalgic taste and reminisced about how things used to be. The menu is quite extensive with daily specials, omurice, napolitan, and curry being popular choices. The dining area has a large number of seats, but there is only one female server who handles everything efficiently without making customers wait. Overall, it was a pleasant lunch experience. Thank you for the meal.

Located a 3-minute walk from Sendagaya Station on the JR Chuo/Sobu Line, this cafe called "Dorodoll" has an impactful name. I visited for the first time on a Saturday afternoon around 2 PM. Going down the stairs to the basement, the interior of the cafe had a dim and calming atmosphere, with tables on the right, a counter on the left, and more seating towards the back. The menu offered a variety of Western dishes such as daily lunch specials and spaghetti, as well as desserts. I decided to try the Napolitan and iced coffee set. When you order a meal with a drink, the drink is half price. - Napolitan: 930 yen - Iced coffee: 250 yen The cafe was about half full, and time seemed to pass quietly inside. The iced coffee arrived first, served in a cold copper cup. About 10 minutes later, the Napolitan was served. It was made with large cuts of bell peppers, onions, sausages, and thick pasta noodles. Tabasco and powdered cheese were provided for seasoning. The Napolitan was a bit oily, but still delicious and had just the right amount of volume. I also noticed other tempting items on the menu like omurice and set meals, so I plan to come back to relax another time. They accept payment through PayPay, and they are part of the promotion offering 20% cashback at select stores in Shibuya Ward from September 15 to October 24, 2021.
