I purchased a meal ticket at the entrance ticket machine. They offered three sizes for the pork bowl: large, regular, and small, each priced differently by 100 yen. I ordered the regular size pork bowl. When I was directed to the counter, I found the seating uncomfortable. The round stool was tall with nowhere to place my feet, making it wobbly. I was surprised by the deliciousness of the pork after taking a bite. It was perfectly cooked, not burnt, with just the right amount of oil. There were shichimi and sansho pepper on the table for flavor variation. While I was trying different flavors, the waitress kindly poured a special mayo sauce on my dish. It was tasty, but I personally preferred it without any sauce as the shichimi seemed to complement the dish well. Overall, I was satisfied with the lunch. They offered soup for an additional 60 yen (with free refills), which I regretted not getting. It would have exceeded 1,000 yen, but it would have been worth it.

This restaurant is located near the south gate of Waseda University, making it a great choice for those who can't eat at the school cafeteria after lunch. There is always a long line. When you enter, you buy a voucher from the vending machine. Looking at the posters of the dishes, it's hard to resist the temptation of the combination of grilled meat and rice. However, since they only serve grilled meat and rice, it may still feel a bit greasy after finishing the meal, but it doesn't affect the deliciousness.

- Pork Bowl (Large) 980 yen
- Address: 1-101-1 Toyama-cho, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo 169-0071
- Price Level from a student's perspective: 3.5 points (on the higher side within Waseda's meals)
- Taste: 3.5 points (out of 5)
- Portion Size: 4 points (out of 5)
Despite the large serving size of 300g of meat and 400g of rice, it was surprisingly easy to finish. The pork is tender, but with a bit more fat. The sauce complements it well, and they also offer a special mayonnaise for flavor variation towards the end. The restaurant is lively with many students. While there are higher quality pork bowl specialty shops out there, this place is popular among Waseda students, so it might be worth a try if you're in the area. It is definitely a top contender among Waseda's meal options.

This dish is a well-balanced combination of pork, tartar chicken, vegetables, and rice. The portion for women is already small, but I asked for an even smaller portion. It is delicious and has a crispy texture, but the downside is that the smell of charcoal grilling is strong inside the restaurant, so your clothes will also smell like it after leaving.

"Went to the restaurant 'Donpishari' located on the 1st floor of a building along Waseda Minamimon Street, about a 5-minute walk from Exit 3b of Waseda Station on the Tokyo Metro Tozai Line for the first time during lunchtime in late February. Arrived at the restaurant 10 minutes before opening time, no other customers were there. The restaurant opened a few minutes late. Purchased a ticket at the automated ticket machine located to the right as soon as entering the restaurant. On this day, ordered the 'Pork Bowl (large size)' (1250 yen) and 'Set A (miso soup, warm egg)' (140 yen). The restaurant has a counter seating area with a total of 18 seats. I was seated at the seat farthest from the entrance. Other customers started to arrive, but they were seated with one seat distance between each other. The restaurant was managed by a mother and a young man. The bowl was served promptly. The bowl was slightly small, but the beautifully arranged pork slices overflowing from it were impressive! The pork had a nice shine and charred marks, looking delicious! On top of the pork, there was plenty of spinach and bean sprouts. When I transferred some pork slices to a plate, the rice underneath was revealed, packed tightly with a great volume. I immediately started eating. The pork was tender, and as I chewed, I could taste the sweetness, very delicious! I could easily keep eating this tasty dish. I sprinkled some Sichuan pepper from the table seasoning halfway through for a change in flavor, and finished the meal in about 10 minutes. It was a satisfying meal. Thank you!"

From Waseda Station, I walked to "Donpishari". Despite being an unusual guest among many people in their 20s, I decided to enjoy my meal without worrying about it. I ordered the Pork and Chicken W Donburi (1,100 yen) because I didn't want to get tired of just one type of meat. The dish was served in just 5 minutes and had a visually appealing presentation that made me want to take a photo (even though I would have taken one regardless). The pork (pork belly) was tender and flavorful, with a thickness of 8mm. The marinade was strong, so the actual taste of the meat wasn't very distinct. I asked the staff to add their original mayonnaise called "Mitsumoto Sauce", which had a Japanese-style taste that paired well with the pork. Adding a sprinkle of chili pepper from the table also enhanced the flavor. Next, I tried the chicken, which had a tempting sear on the outside. Surprisingly, it was cooked to a medium-rare, which was a bit unexpected but I found the moist texture enjoyable after getting used to it. The tartar sauce had a gentle flavor profile with minimal acidity. I easily finished the 300g of pork and chicken with 350g of rice. At the moment, I prefer meat over fish. I've heard that as you get older, your taste may shift towards preferring fish, but I wonder if that day will come for me.

I asked a friend who goes to Waseda University and made a detour to visit the restaurant because I had some errands nearby. The interior of the restaurant is a bit small, but the taste is excellent. When I ordered miso soup, they offered free refills, so I happily had two bowls. The time spent surrounded by the smell from when I sat down until the food arrived was intense, but in a funny way.

The restaurant was almost full with only one seat available at the counter. The service was quick, with dishes served in 3 minutes. The bowl was placed at eye level on the counter, making it easy to see, but it was covered in sauce. By the time I finished taking photos, my hands were also covered in sauce. Despite this, the pork and chicken dishes lived up to expectations. The pork was thickly sliced and satisfying, while the chicken, topped with tartar sauce, was flavorful. I wished the chicken had been cooked a bit more thoroughly. The portion of rice was generous, and I noticed a line of waiting customers, so I hurried to finish my meal. As I took the last bite, I felt uncomfortable with the bowl still in front of me, so I pretended not to notice and left. Overall, I would like to visit this place again if not for the awkward ending.

Next to the popular restaurant, there is this shop. I usually only eat the regular pork bowl, but I visited to try the limited menu for the Waseda Festival. It was like a "full topping" of the meat that is normally in the menu. The rice tasted really delicious. Also, the sansho pepper is a must! The sansho pepper here is delicious. However, the prices are on the higher side, including the regular menu. But the limited menu at ¥1200 was worth it with a generous amount of meat and it was delicious.

I arrived around 6pm on a regular day and waited about 10 minutes to be seated. It's a student town so it may get crowded around school ending times. I ordered the pork and chicken double rice bowl. The pork was thick slices of belly meat and the chicken had a strong punch with tartar sauce. There are many menu items that young people would enjoy, so I recommend it for those who like hearty meals.

Located right near Waseda University, this restaurant is popular among students. I used to frequent this place a lot during my student days. This time, I visited after a long time.
Upon entering the shop, there is a ticket machine on the right where you purchase a ticket before moving to the counter to hand it to the staff. You typically choose between chicken or pork and the amount you want. I sat at the counter this day since I was alone, but there are also table seats available for groups.
I chose pork this time, but I also like the tender chicken. The portions are usually generous, so you'll leave feeling full. The taste is as delicious as ever, although my stomach seems to have shrunk since my student days (laughs). After eating a certain amount, they will drizzle a special mayonnaise sauce on top (sometimes you have to ask the staff if they are busy).
The prices are very reasonable, probably because it's in a student area. It may have gone up slightly recently, but considering the amount of food you get, I am very satisfied. I would like to visit again when I pass by the area.

From Waseda Station, turn right onto Waseda Street towards Takadanobaba, and you'll find a beef bowl restaurant on Waseda Minamimon Street. I visited for the first time around 12 pm on a weekday. Purchased a ticket at the entrance ticket machine. Ordered the "Double Pork and Chicken Bowl" for 1,000 yen (300g of pork and chicken, 350g of rice). The restaurant has about 7-8 counter seats and some table seats in the back. The bowl was served in less than 10 minutes at the counter. Be careful, as the bowl is quite hot when handed over the counter. The pork slices are arranged like petals, overflowing from the bowl, giving it a wild look. The thick-cut pork is savory and well-cooked, with a slightly sweet soy sauce that stimulates the appetite, and goes well with the rice. Next, the chicken is also generously cut, topped with tartar sauce like chicken nanban, refreshing but satisfying. At one point, I was asked if I wanted to add their original mayonnaise and miso sauce. I tried the mayo, which added a nice flavor change, but it became a bit heavy towards the end. Miso soup can be added for an additional 60 yen, and you can ask for refills. The portion is quite generous, so some people opt for less rice. I got both pork and chicken, which resulted in a huge amount, so next time I'll choose just one.

Pork bowl (regular size). It was my first time eating at this restaurant. My son B came back home, along with C. B ordered a small size, while I and B ordered regular size. We bought food tickets and entered the restaurant. I thought there was only a counter, but there were also tables. There was only one customer when we arrived, but more people came in gradually and by the time we left, the counter was full. First, the small size pork bowl arrived. Then the regular size came, and I was surprised by the difference in the amount of meat. The pork was tender and delicious. I sprinkled some sansho pepper and enjoyed the meal. It was hot, which made me happy. The pork was fragrant and hot. I always used to get takeout, so I didn't know how good it was when eaten fresh. The rice was also hot, so I couldn't hold the bowl at first. The spinach with sesame oil dressing was cold, so I mixed it with the rice. The sansho pepper was spicy, but it added a nice flavor to the pork bowl. At one point, they offered us a sauce called "mitsumoto sauce" with wasabi mayo, but we found the original flavor of the dish to be delicious enough. B and C were also satisfied with the portion size. It was a great meal. Thank you.

Pork and chicken W bowl for 1000 yen. This restaurant near Waseda University is a popular choice for students, offering a hearty bowl with pork and chicken. I tried the cheese-topped pork bowl last time, but this time I went for a half and half with pork and chicken. The dish came with "Mitsumoto sauce," a mayonnaise-based sauce. The pork slices were thick and flavorful with a sweet and savory sauce. The chicken was also delicious, with large pieces of thigh meat grilled to perfection and topped with tartar sauce. The portion size was generous with 300g of meat and 350g of rice. Overall, it was a satisfying meal.

A friend wanted to try this place, so we had lunch together! I ordered the Ladies Donburi (750 yen). The restaurant next door is famous for their Abura Soba. There was a kind of Thanksgiving event going on, so there was a long line there, but we were able to get in almost without waiting. The Ladies Donburi is a great set where you can enjoy both chicken and pork. The pork was cooked well and had a rich sauce that gave it a lot of flavor. The chicken had tartar sauce on it, which made it refreshing compared to the pork. There was also spinach salad on the side, so you can get your veggies in. You can sprinkle on some sansho pepper for a different taste. I tried it on the pork and the spicy sansho pepper added a nice kick to the dish!

Taki's Tori-Tama Cheese Donburi costs 1100 yen, and miso soup (free refill) costs 60 yen. This restaurant, located near Waseda University, is a popular spot for students. They serve hearty pork and chicken rice bowls. The pork is cut in a Hokkaido style, arranged neatly in a bowl with a warm egg in the center, spinach piled high, and topped with hot cheese sauce. The pork is thick and the sweet and savory sauce is delicious. The cheese sauce is like a bechamel sauce with white wine, similar to cheese fondue. They also offer a sauce called "Mitsumoto Sauce," which is mayonnaise-based, and it adds another layer of flavor. Overall, it was a delicious meal from start to finish. On December 9th, they are having a 10th-anniversary promotion where 100 customers can get the dish for only 100 yen.

The nearest station is Waseda Station. It is located along the Waseda University Minami-mon Street. It's a pork bowl restaurant. I purchased a large pork bowl (950 yen) and miso soup (60 yen) from the ticket machine. The large pork bowl comes with 300g of meat and 400g of rice. The meat is thinly sliced pork belly, grilled carefully over charcoal, giving it a delicious smoky flavor. The sauce is sweet and savory, but not too strong, making it easy to eat. If you find it too light, you can add extra sauce. Although I didn't use it, the staff recommended a mayonnaise-based sauce for flavor variation. There is also Sansho pepper on the table for additional seasoning options. I had never tried a pork bowl with such thick slices of pork before, so I was very satisfied. The staff's service was also good, so I would like to go back again.

They cut the Tokachi-style charcoal-grilled beef into slices, neatly arranged it in a bowl with a soft-boiled egg in the center, and a mountain of spinach. Then they pour hot cheese sauce over it live. The meat is thick and the sweet and savory sauce is fragrant! The cheese was like cheese fondue.

When entering a restaurant in a student town, I feel a bit nervous. Is it a popular place because it's crowded? And then I realize the only selling point is free refills. Well, it is a student town after all. So I enter with caution or preparedness. Passing by and being drawn in by the delicious smell of pork bowl, I stop in my tracks, wondering if the strong-flavored rice is a stamina booster. But my sense of smell surrenders. I couldn't resist and ended up entering. I purchase a meal ticket at the ticket machine and take a seat at the counter. There seem to be tables in the back, but the small shop is full with about 20 people. I chose the "women's" pork and chicken nanban bowl combo. The devilish meal of pork and chicken nanban bowl exceeded my expectations. The rich flavor of the sauce and the crispy texture of the chicken keep my hand scooping up rice. When my hunger subsides a bit, I read the shop's commitment on the wall and find out that they slowly draw out the umami of the meat with low-temperature cooking and finish it with charcoal grilling to give it that crispy burnt taste. I see, it's not just about the volume. Even a middle-aged salaryman who doesn't want to be deceived by volume alone can be satisfied with the quality and addictive devilish meal. I also regret not ordering a regular size instead of the "women's" one. I was rude to doubt the pork bowl as a volume battle for students before entering. It was a great restaurant with satisfying quality.

Third visit. It was incredibly empty. It was my first time visiting at night. I arrived around 20:30, and due to the impact of the coronavirus, there were only a few customers. It's a student town, but university activities must be on the decline. The quiet atmosphere was refreshing. I discovered a menu exclusively for women. It offers a combination of chicken and pork, with less rice than the small-sized bowl. Intrigued, I bought a meal ticket. ☆Women's exclusive menu (750 yen) This is a combination bowl of chicken and pork. The chicken is topped with tartar sauce, which was not too greasy and had a delicious flavor. The pork still had its charcoal-grilled aroma. It goes perfectly with the rice. Despite financial difficulties, they provide a perfect meal for under 1000 yen. I just hope they don't close down. It's a place I want to preserve as a legacy in the student town.
