A new izakaya opened in the area closest to Arai Yakushi at the Yakuai Road shopping street. Until about half a year ago, there was a long-established fish shop called Ooasai in that location. I had been curious about what would become of the site, so when I saw a notice about the opening of Juushichiban-dai, I was eager to check it out. Like other stores in the area, the interior and exterior have a handmade feel. Originally scheduled to open in late June, it seems that construction and staff arrangements did not go as planned, so the opening was delayed until July 1st. I was surprised to see that the restaurant was already open when I passed by last night. I inquired and found out that it was a pre-opening, with the official opening to the public still scheduled for July 1st.
When I entered around 6 pm, there were not many customers in the Yakushi Road shopping street, as expected. I immediately ordered the "300 yen discounted draft beer for the opening celebration." This place is known for its wide variety of sake, but as a beer lover, I stuck to beer only. I decided to order the "motsu simmered dish" (tax included 300 yen) as my first choice. Looking at the menu, I searched for something in ponzu sauce and ordered the "guts sashimi" (tax included 300 yen). However, later I regretted that I chose only meat dishes. The beer was served promptly, a Sapporo Black Label. The brand was good, but the glass was incredibly small. If they had told me it was 500 yen, there might have been a riot due to the size (laughs). Well, today it's 300 yen, so it's fine. But beer after work on the weekend is exceptionally delicious. Ahh.
I didn't expect an appetizer, but the waitress said, "Please choose two from here." Reflexively, I chose "bonito tataki" and "chicken wasabi." I don't remember what else was available. This was also a selection of meat and fish. I regretted not noticing the "pickled rakkyo and myoga" that caught my eye on the menu.
- Motsu simmered dish
The motsu simmered dish was cheap at 300 yen, and it came in a decent portion, but there was not much motsu, with more daikon and konjac. The taste was not bad, and considering the price, it was okay.
- Guts sashimi
The guts were topped with a large amount of chopped green onions and ponzu sauce. Yuzu pepper was also provided. The guts were surprisingly tender and quite delicious. (I'm saying this as someone who doesn't usually eat this kind of food, so don't rely on my opinion (laughs))
I had another beer and enjoyed the appetizers before settling the bill. However, a man smoking next to me ended up downwind. The worst situation, so I had to leave.
By the way, calculating backwards, the appetizer + seating fee was 400 yen. This seemed a bit high. Recently, many shops in the Ai Road shopping street have been closing, so I hope this Juushichiban-dai will do well. Today, there weren't many customers, but it's still early, so I'll keep an eye on it. I might revisit this weekend to try the "pickled rakkyo and myoga." Three doors down, there is Chizui Chira, a popular grilled fish restaurant, but it is small and the counter is always occupied by regulars (laughs), so it's good that this new restaurant is open and easy to enter. Thank you for the meal.
