Every year, on December 1st, there is a big event (work) that I prepare for by having katsu curry on the previous day, November 30th. I have been taken care of by "Katsushige" at this event for the past two times. The aura of the exterior of the restaurant is quite impressive. It is located quite far from the nearest station, Yoyogi, on the other side of Meiji Street. The restaurant has counter seats and table seats. In the past, it was run by an elderly couple, but now it seems that their son or someone younger is in charge of the kitchen. When I arrived at 1:30 pm, there were no other customers, but I was seated in the back tatami room for some reason. As indicated on the restaurant sign, they serve both Western and Japanese cuisine. The lunch menu seems to be available at all times, not just for lunch. Interestingly, the menu shifts to predominantly Japanese cuisine in the evening. I would like to come back in the evening sometime. At the table, they first bring tea and pickles. I ordered the Katsu Curry (980 yen), which I have never tried any other menu item before. The tonkatsu was slightly small but of high quality, with a firm breading. The curry is sweet and homey, with only a few pieces of pork visible. It is noticeably different from curry made with store-bought roux. It is overwhelmingly delicious. I cannot pinpoint what makes it different, but it is definitely distinct. The quality of the katsu and the curry made specifically for katsu curry make it the most delicious katsu curry in the Shinjuku area in my opinion.

"Bonito sashimi and bacon cutlet set meal" (tax included 1080 yen). The set includes 5 slices of bonito. It comes with plenty of green onions and ginger as condiments. The bacon cutlet is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It's a great deal as you get to enjoy both sashimi and cutlet. This is a recommended daily special menu, so if you're lucky, you might encounter it.

Today's recommendation is the Omelette Set Meal (tax included 890 yen). The omelette appears to be well cooked, but has a fluffy texture and is creamy inside. It is filled with chunks of ham. It goes well with plenty of demi-glace sauce.

Today's recommended menu includes four options. I chose the "Meat Tofu and Bacon Cutlet Set Meal" for 980 yen including tax. The bacon cutlet is crispy and freshly fried, with a thick bacon providing a satisfying texture. The meat tofu comes with simmered onions and pork, with hot tofu underneath. It's a great deal to enjoy both dishes in one set.

Mix (shrimp fry, pork cutlet, crab croquette). It's a set meal with three types of fried dishes. The price is 1280 yen including tax. The crab croquette has a hot and creamy filling inside, so be careful not to burn yourself and take small bites. Both the pork cutlet and shrimp fry have a delicious flavor and aroma. The tartar sauce adds a nice touch with its mild acidity.

The "Boiled Fish and Bacon Cutlet Set Meal" (tax included 980 yen) was delicious. The boiled fish was yellowtail. The daikon radish and carrots as side dishes were very soft and soaked in the broth. The freshly fried cutlet had thick bacon and was very enjoyable to eat. It was lucky to have the set meal with boiled fish, which is rare.

A restaurant located down an alley from Meiji Street that serves both Japanese and Western cuisine. I have been a customer for over 20 years. There are two 4-person table seats, four counter seats, and a tatami room in the back. The freshly fried cutlets and fries are delicious, but what I often order is the hamburger steak set with a sunny-side-up egg. The demi-glace sauce is rich and flavorful, and the yolk of the egg is half-cooked and flows out smoothly. The cabbage salad is plentiful, so I make sure to enjoy it with the sauce without wasting any. It's a menu that leaves you feeling comfortably full.

The lunch set with large portion of rice and retro-style cutlet was around ¥1,000. The cutlet was not thick but still tasty, especially with the demi-glace sauce. They also had sauce and salt on the table for flavor adjustments. The old-fashioned atmosphere run by older staff was charming. Be careful with the large portion of rice, as they tend to serve a lot.

During a meeting before lunch, I suddenly felt like having katsudon, so I came here, but for some reason I ended up ordering katsu curry. I have been coming here for about 30 years, but this might be the first time I've come for lunch. Recently, due to my office being about 400m away and the impact of the coronavirus, my visits have decreased. The katsu curry had a sufficient amount of volume. There was plenty of curry roux, although it may be hard to see in the photo, and on the opposite side of the curry roux, there was a fairly substantial salad. The curry had a moderate level of spiciness, similar to a home-style spicy curry, and it was delicious.

The cozy interior of the small restaurant has a TV and a calming atmosphere. The tonkatsu with demi-glace sauce was incredibly delicious! The miso soup had a strong flavor and warmed me up. Even though I went alone, they seated me at a table which was thoughtful. I will definitely go back again!

A popular Japanese-Western restaurant in a back alley. It's often crowded with nearby office workers during lunchtime. The specialty here is the tonkatsu, but they also have daily specials that are good value for money. This time, I ordered the hamburger steak set (900 yen). The hamburger steak with demi-glace sauce was delicious, and it came with a half-boiled egg and potato salad. The cabbage comes with dressing, but tonkatsu sauce is also available. Overall, this restaurant is reliable and you can't go wrong with their food. It was delicious!

It was sunny on 3/25 and a little chilly. After finishing my errands in Sotobori-dori, I thought I could walk back from here. I took a winding path and ended up near Yoyogi Station. It's too early to go home, so why not have a drink first? I found a cozy little restaurant tucked away from Meiji-dori. The atmosphere was like a diner but also had a bar feel to it, which suited me well. Apparently, their main specialty is tonkatsu. I was recommended a table, but since I was alone, I opted for a seat at the counter. The menu wasn't just focused on meat, but also had a variety of seafood dishes. I ordered an oolong highball, lemon sour, green onion and toro tempura, and dried fish. The complimentary appetizer was egg tofu. The tempura was wrapped in green onion and toro, which was a unique twist. I never thought of deep-frying green onion and toro before. The dried fish was not as dry as I expected, but had a nice balance of flavors.

There is a shop located in the backstreets of Yoyogi. There are few places around here, but there are several shops where you can enjoy delicious lunches, and many salarymen frequent the area. This shop is famous for its tonkatsu eaten with demi-glace sauce, but everything is delicious here. There are about four daily menu items that are discounted, which is nice. This time, I tried the hamburger. It had a good meaty texture, paired well with the sauce, and was very satisfying with rice.

Repeat Katsu Curry. Just as the title says, this is a reliable and comforting Katsu Curry. It has the perfect volume and flavor for lunch. The crispy coating with thin pork cutlets, authentic and flavorful curry with a homely touch. A taste that you sometimes just crave.

I visited for lunch. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was quiet, with people eating quickly. I ordered the fried horse mackerel set meal. First, pickles and tea were served, so I sipped on the tea while waiting, and it arrived shortly after. The fried horse mackerel was quite voluminous yet crispy, and it was delicious without causing any stomach discomfort even until the end. They served a mountain of rice, so I ended up feeling very full. I might try ordering less rice next time. I will definitely go back. Thank you for the meal!

I arrived at the restaurant after 12 o'clock. There was just one seat available, so I sat down. I ordered the top sirloin cutlet and waited for a while. After waiting for about 30 minutes, the dish was finally served. I had tried the regular sirloin cutlet before and it was pretty good, so I had high hopes for the top sirloin. However, it didn't really taste like top sirloin... It seemed like the meat quality was the same, just a bit bigger. I think the regular sirloin would have been enough.

I arrived at the restaurant after 12 o'clock. The place was packed with customers. I ordered the pork cutlet and sat at the counter waiting for a while. As I looked around, I noticed that everyone's food hadn't been served yet, maybe it was shift change time. After waiting for almost 30 minutes, I finally met my pork cutlet. The pork cutlet had a crispy coating and was topped with demiglace sauce. I asked for a small portion of rice, but it was a normal amount, which was fine. The restaurant had a bit of an old-fashioned feel and all the seats had ashtrays (I wonder if there are any tatami mat seats...). I wouldn't recommend it to those who don't like smoke because smoking is allowed.
