I came to Iriya on November 9, 2021. I worked in the morning and met my mom in the heavy rain. Today is Tori no Ichi (Rooster Market). I used to come here every year for my brother's shop, but it's the first time I've experienced such bad weather. I quickly visited the shrine, bought a rake and a seal, and had lunch. The restaurant I wanted to go to had a long line due to the bad weather, so I decided to try another place. I ordered the special Giri Shirako (milt) Ponzu Highball. My mom and I shared it. First, cheers with the highball! It's been about a year since I had alcohol. The carbonation is weak, like a whiskey highball, but it's rich and delicious. The fresh shirasu (whitebait) appetizer was small but sticky and tasty. The Shirako Ponzu included cod milt, seaweed, cucumber, and grated radish. The milt had a rich and creamy texture without any fishy taste, and the grated radish added a nice kick. The sushi set included tuna, shrimp, squid, flounder, sea urchin, herring roe, negitoro roll, and tamagoyaki. I tried the tuna, herring roe, negitoro roll, and tamagoyaki, and the fish was decent. However, the rice was a problem. It was too soft, like it's meant for elderly people. Not recommended. The wasabi also had a strange chemical smell. Overall, the sake and shirako were delicious, so it's a shame about the sushi. I might not recommend sushi at this restaurant.
